    Captain's Message Bayview Station has recently rolled out a new way to partner with the community to helpbetter formulate crime prevention strategies and assist in the investigation of criminalactivity. If you have a surveillance camera outside your business or residence, pleaseconsider registering it with Bayview Station below.

    Surveillance footage is vital in criminal investigations and can provide additional informationand insight into an event. Voluntary registration of private exterior cameras allows us toconsult the registration database in the event of a crime in order to ascertain the possibilitythat the incident may have been recorded.

    You would only be contacted by Bayview Station if we are investigating criminal activity thatoccurred in the vicinity of your registered camera in which case we may request a copy ofthe footage to assist in the investigation. Our registry is limited to surveillance cameras inthe Bayview Police District. You can also register you camera separately with SF DistrictAttorney's Office.

    Carjacking Arrest – 1100 block Thomas – 2/21/18, 11:30 am

    On January 20th, a 41 year old victim reported a carjacking at Mission Station. He toldthe officers that he was loading his car, which was idling, at Rankin and Quesada,when a suspect approached and held a knife to his neck. The suspect removed thevictim’s personal property from his pockets before getting into the victim’s vehicle anddriving off. Mission officers advised the Bayview officers who located the vehicle thefollowing day along with the suspect in the driver’s seat. The suspect was arrested andbooked. (SFPD Case No. 180135434) Auto Burglary Arrest – unit block Navy – 2/21/18, 11:47 amOfficers on patrol spotted a suspect who they recognized as being wanted in connection

    with a February 15th auto burglary that occurred on the 900 block of Northridge. Theofficers were familiar with the suspect, who also had a $50,000 warrant for his arrest outof San Mateo County for robbery. The suspect was taken into custody without incident

    and booked. (SFPD Case No. 180123138) Firearm Arrest– unit block Conkling – 2/22/18, 8:40 am

    On January 20th, officers were made aware that that a 15 year old student was seen tobe in possession of a gun while on the school campus several days prior. Surveillancefootage captured the suspect picking up the gun, which had fallen from his pocket, andreplacing it. Bayview inspectors responded to the suspect’s residence in the unit blockof Samoset where they received permission to search his room. The .380 pistol wasrecovered and the suspect was arrested and booked on weapons charges at theJuvenile Justice Center. (SFPD Case No. 180135412) Aggravated Assault Arrest – 300 block Williams– 2/22/18, 9:40 amOfficers made an arrest in a brutal unprovoked assault of a 30 year old victim that

    occurred on November 17th, at 10:10 am, on the 2500 block of San Bruno. The victimhad been standing on the sidewalk when a suspect shoved her from behind causing herto hit her head on a parking meter. The suspect fled on foot. The officers, through theirfollow up investigation, were able to identify the suspect. He was subsequently located,arrested, and booked on aggravated assault charges. (SFPD Case No. 170936054) Firearm Arrest– 700 block Kirkwood – 2/22/18, 5:13 pmOfficers patrolling the area noticed several cars stopped in the street and went toinvestigate the traffic violations. One of the subjects was seen dipping into one of thecars through an open window as the officers approached. One of the officersapproached the car and looked in, spotting a handgun wedged in between thepassenger seat and passenger door. The suspect was arrested for firearms offensesand the loaded .40 caliber pistol was seized. (SFPD Case No. 180142768) Robbery – 1000 block Hollister – 2/26/18, 12:55 amA 23 year old victim was joined by some friends at his home where the group wasconsuming alcohol. Several of the attendees were unknown to the victim as they cameas guests of the victim’s acquaintance. At one point, the victim got into an argumentwith the two unknown guests and they physically attacked him. The victim stated thathis phone fell out of his pocket as they were hitting him and that one of the suspectsgrabbed the phone and took it with him when the pair fled the scene. This incident isunder investigation. (SFPD Case No. 180151117) Firearm Arrest– unit block Commer Ct– 2/26/18, 9:38 pmOfficers patrolling the area came upon several subjects who appeared to be drinkingalcohol inside of a parked vehicle. As the officers approached the car, they noticed thesubject in the passenger seat furiously bobbing up and down as if attempting to conceal

    something. They made contact with the subject and when he rolled down the window,they detected the odor of burnt marijuana in the car. Both subjects were removed fromthe vehicle at which point the officers located a 9mm semi-automatic firearm underthe passenger seat. An additional handgun, a .40 caliber with a mounted flashlight,was located concealed in a bag on the passenger seat. The suspect was arrested andbooked on firearm related charges, (SFPD Case No. 180153527)

    Firearm Arrest– 3rd / Palou– 2/27/18, 5:03 pmOfficers patrolling the Mendel Plaza stopped a subject who was walking his dog withouta leash in order to admonish him. The subject appeared excessively nervous andwalked away, stating that he would collect his loose dog. The officers kept an eye onhim and noticed what appeared to be a pistol grip sticking out of his jacket pocket. Theofficers approached the suspect again and he made a motion to conceal the item as hetook off running. The officers gave chase and apprehended the suspect. A .38 caliberrevolver was recovered from his jacket pocket. The suspect was arrested and bookedon firearms related charges. (SFPD Case No. 180155567)

    Suspicious Activity DefinedSuspicious activity is any observed

    An individual peering into vehicles

    of residences, or attempting to

    locate unattended packages, or

    following delivery trucks to see

    where packages are being

    dropped off.

    Crime DefinedRobbery- The taking of property from

    another by use of force or fear.

    Assault- The unlawful attempt, coupled

    with present ability, to commit a violent

    injury on another person. Assault is when

    a person swings their arm and Battery is

    when that arm makes contact with

    another.

    Misdemeanor Battery- Any willful and

    unlawful touching of another

    Community Policing DefinedCommunity policing, or community-

    oriented policing, is a strategy of policing

    that focuses on police building ties and

    working closely with members of the

    community.

    Homeless Outreach and

    outreach to Drug Users: Bayview

    Station officers coordinate with city

    agencies to provide outreach and

    assistance to rehabilitate those

    who are dependent on illegal

    drugs and outreach to homeless

    individuals to connect them with

    resources and support

    Foot Patrols: Bayview Station has

    beat officers assigned to the 3rd

    St. corridor, 18th St., and San

    Bruno Avenue.

    Felony Battery- The use of force or

    violence upon the person of another that

    causes serious bodily injury.

    Aggravated Assault- Assault upon

    another person with a deadly weapon or

    instrument other than a firearm or by

    means of force likely to produce great

    bodily injury.

    Burglary- The intent upon entry into a

    property to commit grand theft, petty theft,

    or any felony.

    Grand Theft- Theft committed when the

    value of the money, labor, or property

    taken exceeds $950

    Petty Theft- Theft where the value of

    property taken is less than $950

    and others. Concerns are voiced

    and addressed through problem

    solving

    Officer Monty SingletonOfficer Singleton is a 23 year veteran of the San Francisco Police Department and has worked at

    Bayview Station for over 20 of those years. He is a beat officer on the 3rd St. corridor and knows all

    the long time residents and business owners in the area. He is loved by the community and is a

    valuable asset to Bayview Station. If you do not already know Officer Singleton, consider introducing

    yourself and getting to know him when you see him riding his bike on his 3rd St. beat. You will be

    in October.

    Citizen of the MonthFebruary 2018

    NeDina Brocks-CaplaNeDina Brocks-Capla was born in Tacoma, WA , was raised in San Francisco and calls Bayview her

    home. After 36 years as a caregiver to her son who passed away from Sickle Cell Anemia, NeDina

    founded Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness of SF, in 2014. NeDina strives to make a difference in the

    lives of the Sickle Cell Disease patients that are suffering and dying. Her mission is to broaden

    awareness, educate, advocate for better healthcare and acquire funding for a Sickle Cell Care &

    Research Center. Through her non profit organization, NeDina conducts toy and blood drives,

    The SFAC invites artists and artist teams residing in the United States to submit qualifications for

    inclusion in the 2018 Bayview Artist Registry for upcoming public art opportunities in theBayview neighborhood of San Francisco. Artists with a meaningful connection to the Bayview -

    whether they currently reside, have resided in the Bayview, or have another significant connection

    to the Bayview - are encouraged to apply.

This documentary film facilitates a youth-lead dialogue between San Francisco residents ofcolor and local law enforcement in barbershops across The City. The film highlights topics ofimplicit bias, people of color in law enforcement, violence and ways of moving forwardtogether.

    Following the screening will be a panel discussion with San Francisco law enforcement – achance for audience members to confront issues affecting their communities, as well as makea tangible impression on youth, our future leaders. Constructive conversation in an openforum is the first step toward positive change, and a way to address misconceived notionsbetween communities of color and law enforcement.

    The objective is to address the tension and develop a set of recommendations to change thecurrent culture, and it can’t be done without you. Bring YOUR voice to the conversation.

    When disposing the medication, please leave it in theoriginal container with your personal information crossedout or removed. You can also place the medication into aclear plastic zip top baggies. Contact the front desk officerand inform them that you want your medication disposeof. The officer will assist you. Please note that once an item that had been disposed of inside the bin, we cannot retrieve it. So makesure your ring, cell phone or anything of value is not accidentally disposed of.

    services with only two numbers to remember: 911 for emergenciesand 3-1-1 for everything else.

    Before 311, over 50% of calls to the 911 center were not emergency related. 311relieves 911 operators from these non-emergency calls. If a catastrophic emergency

    such as an earthquake occurs, 311 operators will be able to provide accurateinformation to assist during the recovery. In the unlikely event the 911 facilities

    becomes inoperative, the 311 call center will function as a back up.
