Replica of “Indian Chief” Bullet Drawing

Precision shooting creates a distinctive piece of art in this bullet drawing inspired by a popular talent of the famous “Shooting Linds.” Winchester Marksmen Dot and Ernie Lind were performance shooters employed by Winchester throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s. They performed at military bases, shooting clubs, and county fairs for over 30 years. In their exhibitions Ernie would use a .22 rifle and an average of 250 bullets to “draw” an Indian head in a sheet of thin steel in three minutes’ time.

The NRA National Firearms Museum holds two examples of these bullet drawings created by the Linds: an “Indian Chief ” and an “Uncle Sam” from 1947. Framed in black executive leather, this reproduction of the “Indian Chief ” in 24 gauge galvanized steel was created by 20-year-old shooter Tyler Mitten using a .22 long rifle. An Ohio native, Mitten is a life member of the National Rifle Association and supports his local Ross County Friends of NRA committee by setting up for banquets and running game tables. When Friends of NRA asked him in April 2014 if he would assist with this exhibition-style shooting project, Mitten quickly agreed, seeing the opportunity to shoot for fun during the summer and help Friends of NRA raise money on a nationwide scale at the same time. M16 Patent Plaques

A striking visual display of a significant piece in firearms history, these plaques feature an authentic duplication of the various patents for the M16 as well as a diagram of the rifle nomenclature. Designed by Eugene Stoner, the M16 was a radical departure from previous service rifles. The innovative design was derived from Stoner’s earlier work on the ArmaLite AR-10. Adopted by the U.S. Air Force in 1961 and the U.S. Army in 1963, it was designated “United States Rifle, Caliber 5.56mm, M16.” By 1968 it was standard issue in the US military, and it was eventually adopted by NATO. The M16/AR-15 continues to experience widespread military and civilian use.

Including Stoner’s and his patent attorney’s signatures, these laser-engraved, coated brass plaques reproduce the original patent documents and diagram in luminous detail. The three 10”H x 7”W plaques include a 1/4-inch brass border and are clear-coated to prevent oxidation and ensure enduring quality. The plaques and a 6-inch scripted plate about the piece are double matted in gray within a scratched black frame measuring 28”W x 16”H. Charlton Heston Commemorative Stamp Set

Charlton Heston is known to the world as a Legend of Hollywood, but his most compelling and passionate role took place off-screen as President of the National Rifle Association of America. From 1998-2003 Heston served as the commanding voice of the NRA and a powerful campaigner against gun control. Heston believed so deeply in the right to bear arms that in a speech at the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in 2000 he famously proclaimed his guns would only be taken “From my cold, dead hands!” Heston proudly defended and protected the Second Amendment and for that he will forever be a Legend of the NRA.

In this unique tribute, the NRA seal accompanies a mounted sheet of 20 Charlton Heston Forever® stamps, the 18th stamp in the United States Postal Service’s Legends of Hollywood series. Annie Oakley Replica Target Set

Born Phoebe Anne Moses in 1860 in Darke County, Ohio, Annie Oakley captured the hearts of Americans and admirers worldwide as the first woman to star in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. A noted competitor in rifle, shotgun and handgun disciplines, she was also America’s first female shooting trainer. As a celebrity firearm instructor, she trained over 15,000 women in safe firearm handling and marksmanship.

One of Annie Oakley’s special accomplishments was her heart-shot targets. As she came to a town and performed informally to introduce the Wild West Show, she would often hand out the targets on which she had successfully hit the heart. For the children in the audience who receive them, the targets served as free passes for admission to the Wild West Show. Even today, free passes in the theatrical world are sometimes called “annie oakleys.”

Framed in 13”H x 20”W espresso walnut and double matted in cream with dark brown accents, a replica of the heart-shot target

in the NRA National Firearms Museum’s collection accompanies a .22 long rifle bullet and casing fired from Annie Oakley’s Stevens Offhand Target Model No. 35 pistol by NRA directors, including Executive Director of General Operations Kyle Weaver, and headquarters staff.
