BETTER CITY PLANNING
DECENT HOUSE AND BETTER LIFE FOR POOR COMMUNITIES
Coventional housing process Community- driven housing process
- Gov¶t urban planning standards:
larger road, larger land plot => more
eviction, higher compensation cost to
the gov¶t, bigger debt for poor families, more land plots sold out, µbroken¶
social/economic network
- Individual design and construction:
higher cost, longer construction time
- Flexible and affordable planning
standards: reblocking with smaller land
plots (but bigger than initial) => no
eviction, minimum to no compensationcost, community network maintained
- Collective design and construction:
cheaper construction cost (reuse of
materials, community labor, shorter time
