Vidya Balan is one actress who has embraced Indian ethnic wear and made it her own special style statement.
She expressed her love for ethnic wear when she endorsed World Ethnic Day .
She mostly opts for saris to wear on the red carpet for almost all events that she
attends.
She often says that the legendary Rekha is her idol and
also her style icon.
She wore a bright yellow sari for the ceremony where she was
awarded the Padma Shri award in 2014.
She has walked the ramp a number of times for famous designers
wearing saris that have become her signature style.
Most of her film roles also do justice to her style and she is seen wearing some of the best Indian
outfits on screen.
Sabyasachi is one designer who designs most of Vidya’s
outfits, he has even called her his muse.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that no other contemporary actress in the
Bollywood can carry a sari like Vidya.
When she was appointed as a jury member at the Canne’s Film Festival
in 2013 she chose to wear Indian outfits designed by Sabyasachi
Mukherji on the red carpet.
Recently Vidya made her love for ethnic wear known when she endorsed World Ethnic day, which is to be celebrated on the 19th of
June.
“By celebrating World Ethnic Day, we get an opportunity to go back to our roots. I feel strongly about the dying art of handlooms in the country, and also about the plight of artisans who are struggling for livelihood. I am delighted with the opportunity to spread awareness about it.” she said.
