Video Squeeze Page – Good Or Bad? So maybe you’ve already built your basic opt-in page and you’re not converting terrifically well, let’s say something like 30%. Could a video squeeze page be the answer?

Video Squeeze Pages – The Latest Bandwagon

Video squeeze pages are a bit of a bandwagon. In fact, video as a whole is. Don’t get me wrong, I think video has it’s place – I recently switched an affiliate offer from what I thought was a great sales page to one that was just a video with only text in it and I doubled my profits immediately!

But does that mean that video is automatically suited to squeeze pages? All the sellers of templates will tell you so but then, they are going to be biased and they would say that.

Does it follow that just because video works well for selling in some (by no means all) instances that it should therefore increase your conversion rates for collecting email subscribers?

The Only Way To Know Is To Test

As with anything and everything to do with online marketing and especially list building, the proof can only come from testing. It doesn’t matter what your theories are or how good your arguments are – the only thing that matters is the bottom line.

Now I have not tested video squeeze pages. I will tell you that I just don’t have the skills to produce my own high quality videos. Yes, you can purchase PLR video templates but they’ve also never appealed to me as they are never tested for conversion and cannot be edited (unlike a regular written template) so you are basically hoping for the best and quite often let down by the creator.

I actually have it in mind to outsource a video template from someone simply so that I can then test it out. But the problem again is that you end up hoping it will work well straight away. In my experience with outsourcing squeeze pages of any type to others, this never works very well. Incidentally, I don’t blame the creators because the same happens for most people – it’s only via tweaking and testing that you can get any squeeze page to convert well. To me, the idea of selling something untested a.k.a. “version 1.0″ is totally flawed in the first place.

Anyway, back to video – is it better or worse than regular squeeze pages? The only way to know for sure is to do a test.

Testing

As mentioned, I have not done any testing. However, I do know of several marketers who have tested video squeeze pages and they have come to the conclusion that it does not improve conversion over and above a regular squeeze page, despite all the theories touted by those selling templates.

Their conclusion and their own theories are that video is a distraction. This makes a lot of sense if you think about it – the best squeeze pages tend to be those that are brief and straight to the point. Many a time I have had to rewrite a squeeze page and try to make it half as long as it was before. Even a squeeze page with one headline and two bullets can often be the best.

If you have a video then you are not taking advantage of people’s impulses. You are losing the chance to immediately grab the prospect while they are hot. You are giving them time for doubt and other negative emotions to kick in. This is not what you want as a list builder!

Besides, many people also just don’t like video and don’t have the patience for it. At the very least, a video squeeze page should also have bulleted text to give the benefits to those who hate the time and concentration that it takes to watch video but many people don’t even do that!

Conclusion

Video squeeze pages are not all that they are cracked up to be. By all means, experiment with them and see if they can help you but do not expect miracles.

If you don’t have an email list yet or you have one but it’s less than 500 subscribers then you need to shift your list building into 5th gear! I failed for years and finally broke the glass ceiling.
