0.03this is the first shot in the whole video. It

shows the main star (Rihanna) silhouetted against an

urban like background. Even though the surroundings

are rough, her hair is done and we can still tell shestands out, even though we cant see details.

0.05- This is the next shot shown, a head and

shoulders shot of the love interest in the videolooking tired and distressed. This is setting up

the scene for the rest of the video as we now

know that its going to be between this man and

Rihanna

0.08- The next shot switches back to Rihanna,showing her in the same location as the

previous shot, with the same damp look. This

connotes that they therefore have an

involvement with each other and is starting to

suggest tensions between the two.

0.09- This is the first shot of the two we see

together. From this we can connote that they

are romantically involved with each other

and the pair are obviously supporters of

drugs which we can now begin to denote isthe reason they are shown to be so down?

0.11The video then cuts back to the location of

the bathroom and shows the pair at either end of

the bath tub, still fully clothed. From this two shot,we can see there is a clear divide between the

couple. This makes the audience wonder why and

they will probably be realizing by now that this is

going to be the narrative of the video

The video then cuts to a shot of thepair on a fairground rise, obviously sharing an

intimate moment, (perhaps a shot back to

better times?) However, from the editing on

this we can connote from the shaky camera

and slowed down effects that the couple are

high and have no idea whats going on.

0.22- The shot then changes to a beauty shot of

the star in a field, revealing bare skin on her

shoulder. She is wearing a jumper but the

director has specifically chosen to have this

shoulder showing so to show her as sexually

attractive to the audience and obviously the love

object in the video.

0.23This shot then cuts back to the love object

in a field looking at something. The shot is

framed so we can see a long track stretching a

head perhaps with underlying meanings of no

way out.

0.26 - The shot then flicks back to Rihanna,collapsing to her knees amongst the grass.

From the way she is facing, we can now

denote that she was the Point of Interest for

the love object which now makes her the

point of interest in the video.

0.26The shot then changes back to the urban

surroundings which is a big juxtaposition. Rihanna is

looking out of the window again perhaps connoting

she wants to get out.

0.29The shot then changes back to the love

interest who starts off looking at her (we presume)

and then looks away disappointed/annoyed

therefore suggesting more tensions between thecouple.

0.31The shot flicks back to the couple again, both

taking drugs. The video is now beginning to show the

two sides of the couple and telling the audience thatthis relationship only really works when they are both

high perhaps suggesting that it could never work

and thats what's hurting them both as theyre coming

to terms with that.

0.33The drug like effects are, again, placed on

to this cut which show Rihanna writhing about in

an unmade bed in underwear. The shot

obviously connotes sex and perhaps that the

couple have just engaged in it whilst high. The

bright lights in the corner are a recurring theme

throughout the video whenever they are shown

to be high on drugs.
