Whether it is through education or agriculture, evangelism or accounting, each entity of VIDA internacional is based on the underlying principle of restoring man into the image of his Maker and encouraging a life of dedicated service to the Lord. As a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, VIDA internacional is composed of mis-sionaries from around the world who work together in a small corner of Honduras in an effort to witness the Gospel transcend borders on the brink of Jesus’ second coming.

If it is indeed true that “the work of education and the work of redemption are one,” then VIDA internacional has no better reason to work with children than this. This is the foundation of the bilingual Christian education village children receive. It isn’t really about teaching them English, although that is good and well. It’s about them finding a friend in Jesus as they garden, read, cook, and practice their multiplication tables. When a child’s character is changing for the better because they are learning to put their faith in Jesus while attending school, learning English is simply the icing on the cake.

More and more are realizing that “true education is missionary training” and are at-tending schools where they can learn the basics of being a medical missionary by de-veloping their Bible, health, leadership, and practical vocational skills. At the core of medical missionary training is the desire to develop the character of Christ in each stu-dent. Through its medical missionary training course, VIDA internacional is hastening the second coming of Jesus Christ one trained missionary at a time. It’s an opportunity to spend a year digging into the Word of God as if one were sitting at the feet of Jesus.

Evangelism is more than just giving Bible studies, although that is good and well. Evan-gelism is about caring for the whole person—that they are fed and clothed, that they have a roof over their head, that someone is there to cry with them when tragedy strikes. Loving people as Christ loved is how to make disciples. That is the essence of church. That is VIDA internacional’s greatest desire—to nurture the growing body of Christ.

“During His ministry, Jesus devoted more time to healing the sick than to preach-ing.” Should we not then follow His example? VIDA internacional finds pleasure in using natural treatments such as massage or hydrotherapy to bring healing to those who are in need. Through simple means, God allows us to be a part of His re-cre-ative process. When people realize they have lost weight by eating a healthier diet, when they can walk 1� minutes without feeling short of breath, when diabetes no longer controls their life, it is then they experience a freedom worth living healthy for.

Ever since the Garden of Eden, man was destined to support oneself by living off the land. Thousands of years after the Garden of Eden, nothing has changed, and this is for the better. VIDA internacional strives to support itself and the proj-ects it founded by working the land. The organization is located on a guava plantation with over �00 trees, but what tents were for the apostle Paul is what tamarind is for VIDA internacional—all 1600 trees. As the tamarind plantation be-comes more fruitful, VIDA internacional inches closer to completely subsidizing its staff, students and the various sub-ministries it has established over the years.
