CASE STUDY VICTORY TOUR PRODUCTION & BABYMETAL TOUR

Background

Victory Tour Production is a mid-sized Danish-based production company with a focus on turnkey solutions for the touring, event and staging industry. Having worked with some of the biggest artists and shows in Denmark, Europe and the US, Victory is well versed in stage designs that deliver the visual and interactive experience audiences demand.

The same creativity carriers over into recorded shows where quality sound is essential, which was the case for the Japanese metal idol band BABYMETAL, during its April 2016 show at London’s SSE Arena in Wembley, where a DVD would be produced.

The Show

Victory utilized the T2 Express 2 from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, to provide a complete and self-contained SD and HD audio/video play-out center. Christian Byriel, head of the video department for Victory Tour Production was very comfortable with the technology, as he had already used T2s in both broadcast and outside broadcasting (OB) productions.

For the BABYMETAL tour, T2s are the go-to digital recording/playout technology that are used on all of the major performances where qual-ity playback is required.

“The main reason for choosing the T2 for the BABYMETAL DVD pro-duction and live show was its easy-to-use interface and control over two playout channels — all while still maintaining flawless playout quality. This was extremely important to the production,” said Byriel.

Every T2 Express 2 has two playout channels for independent edit-ing and previewing or for delivering content to two different display systems simultaneously — useful for edge blending. The front-panel transport controls have the look and feel of a traditional VTR, and one record and two output channels support SD and HD content. T2 digi-tal recorder/players can be controlled by video production switchers, presentation mixers and audio mixers to create a powerful presenta-tion system.

Benefits

“We take a pride in providing the absolute ‘best of the best’ for the client, whether it’s technical services, project management, dry hire, production management and, of course, complete turnkey solutions for clients. Over the years I have worked with a lot of Grass Valley products and I have always been a big fan, so it was no surprise that the T2s delivered the best digital recording experience for this show,” said Byriel.

Byriel is so impressed with T2, that he sums it up this way: “T2 is now my go-to dual channel playout unit for applications where ease-of-use and quality playback is important. It’s that simple.”

“The main reason for choosing the T2 on this production was its easy-to-use interface while having control over two playout channels, and still maintaining flawless playout qual-ity. This was extremely important to the production.”
