The model 95-ME5-A Vibration Analysis Learning System adds to the 950-ME1 Mechanical Drives 1 Learning System to teach how to use vibration analysis to determine when to perform

maintenance of power transmission components. Students will learn industry-relevant skills including how to: use a vibration meter to take a vibration measurement, how and where to

take measurements on various types of power transmission systems, how to analyze the results, and how to minimize vibration.

Vibration analysis is one of the key techniques used in the fi eld of predictive maintenance to determine when to service one or more of a machine’s com-

ponents, either making a replacement or adjustment, before a failure actually occurs. In vibration analysis, the frequency of machine vibrations are moni-tored over time and analyzed. By analyzing the trends, maintenance and plant engineering personnel can determine if a machine has misaligned shafts, worn bearings, or unbalanced rotating elements.

The 95-ME5-A includes a vibration meter and sensor attachments, vibration generator system, component test set, student learning materi-als for both theory and lab, and teacher’s guide. Students will analyze vibration of both good and defective real world components to better pre-pare them for real world applications.

Real World Conditions - The 95-ME5-A incorporates an industrial-quality hand-held vibration meter that makes three types of vibration measurements: velocity, acceleration, and spike energy. Students will learn how use the meter to take vibration measurements on a variety of real world power trans-mission systems provided by the 950-ME Mechanical Drives Learning System including: belt drives, shaft couplings, chain drives, and gear drives.

Vibration Troubleshooting Techniques - Amatrol’s Vibration Analysis System teaches how to use probe orientation, placement, and vibration measurement type to get meaningful data. Amatrol’s ori-entation adapters enable students to quickly take accu-rate measurements at different orienta-tions. Students then learn how to use this data in conjunction with trend analysis and severity charts to determine if the power transmission system is develop-ing a problem and its root causes. Vibration test components include good and bad bearings as well as a balance-adjustable fl ywheel to give students real world troubleshooting experience.

Vibration Effects and Compensation - The 95-ME5-A teaches students how to compensate vibration through isola-tion, dampening, and vibration reduction. Students will test the

effects of vibration isolators and dampeners to learn how and where to use these devices. They will also learn how resonant frequency and sympathetic vibration affect system operation.
