It gives me immensepleasure to be a part ofthis edition of the Newslet-ter. This edition comes ata time when we have suc-cessfully concluded ourvisit to China. A high leveldelegation under theleadership of Hon bleChief Minister, comprisingseveral business leaders,

my colleagues and myselfwere on a 5-day officialvisit to China.

This visit was in responseto the invitation receivedby Hon ble Chief Ministerfrom the ruling CommunistParty of China (CPC). The

objective of the visit was to strengthen Gujarat s relationwith China; by inviting Chinese investments into the stateand by promoting trade relations. The visit helped in gen-erating the desired interest.

Our focus during the visit was on exploring tie-ups ininfrastructure, culture, telecom & technology. Lot of inter-est has been generated among Chinese companies in thesesectors. We expect Chinese investments in infrastructure, solar panel manufacturing, semi-conductor, renewable en-ergy, port development and high value-added products.

Several political and business meetings were held with theChinese government and business leaders. The interest

generated through these meetings was so significant that adelegation of textile machinery manufacturing companieswill be visiting the state during the week starting 14th No-vember 2011 to explore investment opportunities.

We have also initiated dialogue on providing better flightconnectivity from Ahmedabad to Beijing and Shanghai.

According to a forecast, the Chinese investment in India isexpected to reach USD 100 billion over the next fiveyears. We target to attract at least 10 per cent of these

investments into Gujarat.Hon ble Chief Minister has invited Chinese business commu-nity and public enterprises to participate in the VibrantGujarat Summit 2013.

This visit has thus widened our horizons and has putforth a progressive partnership with China for us.

FMCG companies also moving fast to be a part of Gujarats rising industrial hub, Sanand

After witnessing the rush of automobile majors, Sanand near Ahmedabad - amajor industrial cluster, being developed by Gujarat Industrial Development

Corporation - is now fast emerging as an attractive location for FMCG giants. One of the firsts to join the bandwagon has been the oral and dental hygieneproducts manufacturer Colgate Palmolive, which is planning a greenfield facil-ity at an industrial estate in Sanand. One of the most trusted brands in dentalcare, personal care and home care, Colgate s fifth facility in India is expectedto come up at an estimated investment of Rs. 200 crore for which approxi-mately 1,00,000 sq meters of land has been allotted .

Another major investor is TBEA,a Chinese company which plans to set up atransformer manufacturing unit with Foreign Direct Investment of Rs. 500crore. The power equipment maker, TBEA Energy and its Indian counterpartbased in Gurgaon, TBEA Energy India Ltd plan to set up a Green Energy Parkin a phased manner, with a total projected investment of Rs 2,500 crore. Thefirst phase consists of building TBEA Ultra High Voltage Transformer plant.Apart from transformers the company manufactures high voltage electric alu-minium foil and assembly base on key parts of solar energy equipment amongothers. The reputed Japanese company Hitachi Limited has also tied up withGandhinagar based Hi-Rel to set up power electronics equipments for thepower sector. The facility will manufacture motor control devices variablefrequency drive medium voltage applications-for power plants of 2MW and 5MW capacity. Other industries planned include US based Allied MineralProduct Incorporation, which is building a monolithic refractory project andCorning which plans to set up a facility for manufacturing optical fibres. Auto-

motive components and engineering company Bosch too plans to invest ap-proximately Rs 275 crore to set up a unit at Sanand.

Sanand which enjoys proximity to a mega city like Ahmedabad, is one of thefine examples demonstrating positive and wide spread impact of urbaniza-tion. It was declared a satellite town of Ahmedabad by Ministry of UrbanDevelopment, Government of India in 2009 and confirms its importance inabsorbing the citys industrial and infrastructure growth with abundant landresources, independent economy, fast and low cost of travel to attract re-sources and manpower and effective communication services.

Being planned with its own municipality, Sanand is witnessing development of

sound urban infrastructure facilities like transport, water, sewerage and solidwaste management. Due to its proximity to Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor(DMIC) and presence of Special Investment Regions (SIRs), the location is idealfor industrial developments. Comprehensive efforts on part of GIDC and stateas well as local urban development departments are sure to catapult the loca-tion on the national industrial map.

Its claim to fame the prestigious Tata Nano plant which shifted from WestBengal is a testimony to its growing attractiveness as an investment destinationamong foreign and national investors alike.
