1. Sailing Sedliská – hencovcefamily kayak trip with a visit to the castle

If you are looking for a sail at Zemplín, which your children will not be afraid of, you have just found it. The Sedliska - Hencovce section is not just technically easy, but it also is relatively short, as it takes only about 2 hours. So if you are a beginner and take your restless minors with you, we recommend you this sail with charmful meanders in the floodplain forest. The sail begins on the right bank of Ondava river in the village of Sedliská, near the bus stop Sedliská-Podčičva. If you arrive by car, you can park by the nearby restaurant or in the abandoned stone quarry under the reconstructed castle of Čičva. The easy trail up to the beautifully landscaped castle can easily be walked even by children, so you may enjoy the views of the river meanders and the surrounding countryside from the bird’s eye view.

2. Sailing Strážske – petrovce nad LaborcomSailing down the laborec river will also please one by its pellucid water

Prepare for a water trip as if it were a scene from a  Czech film. Floating the river with a cheerful party and swimming in crystal clear water during the day, of  the water sportsmen and, and sitting at the campfire and singing tramp songs in the evening. This is how the Laborec river sailing may look like, which will show two faces to its visitors at the all-rounder section of Strážske - Petrovce nad Laborcom. While the first part offers beautiful river scenery, views of the Vihorlat mountain massif and a gravel trough with the possibility of camping and swimming in clear water, the second section of the floodplain forests is characterized by the  slight flow slowed-down by a dyke at Petrovce, where the sailing ends. The start of the sail is on the right bank of the river, about a kilometer downstream from the bridge in Strážske.

3. Sailing humenné – StrážskeThe wide Laborec river basin will satisfy even the  most demanding water sportsmen

This 9-kilometer-long section of the Laborec river boasts by its comfortable start right in Humenné at the winter stadium and a particularly wide, gravel-shaped bed with long turns. Not just the beginners, but also experienced water sportsmen would find it great; they also may take part in the Sail Race for rapid and competitive water sportsmen at the Spring Sail Race. Those less competitive may look for a beautiful natural scenery with beautiful views of the picturesque Zemplín hills and the castle of Brekov. However, the sail with more challenging stretches is not available all year round, so  if you are interested, wait for longer and heavier rain, which will „adjust“ the section to irresistible form.

4. Sightseeing cruise on the Zemplínska Šírava lakeTake a look at Zemplín from the cruise ship‘s deckIf you visit Zemplín during the summer months, the visit the Zemplínska Šírava lake - the second largest Slovak water reservoir - is a must. And if you by chance become tired of sunbathing on some of its gravel beaches, embark the Zemplín cruise ship with your family or a bunch of friends, where you may enjoy the beauties of the region from the ship‘s deck while sipping a chilled drink. During the season, the ship cruises every day, and the cruise takes about 50  minutes. Holiday makers embark and  disbark in  the port of the Hôrka recreational centre, but during the cruise you will see other interesting holiday destinations like Šírava or Medvedia Hora, Kaluža, Kamenec or Paľkov.

5. Adrenalín at the Zemplínska Šírava lakeAdrenaline or romance? or both of these?Imagine driving an 8-cylinder boat with a power of 300 hp. And now imagine that you are sitting in  a wheel that such a boat is pulling. If you belong among adrenaline enthusiasts, the sightseeing cruise from Hôrka, followed by an adrenaline ride back, is just something for you. In particular, the ladies might appreciate the romantic night cruise. Take a  blanket, make yourself comfortable, and let yourself sway on the waves of Šírava, which is lit only by the moon and the stars in the night. In addition, you can book a  boat with a captain and a stewardess in the seafarers‘ clothing for private celebrations. A small boat decoration and champagne is included.

Wellness in the Šírava Thermal parkboth children and their parents will enjoy staying in the Šírava Thermal parkThe kids are screaming, the parents are enjoying relaxation in the sauna, and the grandparents are being treated in a pool with geothermal water. This may also be an option for your visit to the Šírava Thermal Park, which will satisfy persons of all ages. For the smallest ones, there is a children‘s pool with slides, a wild river, a swinging bay, and a children‘s playground. Their parents may enjoy swimming and massage pools, as well as a special swimming pool with simulated sea waves and various types of saunas with ice-fall and massaging showers. Your elders will primarily appreciate the outdoor swimming pool with water from a geothermal well with a temperature of  40° C and curative effects for people suffering from rheumatic and skin diseases. All of this is offered along with a  beautiful view of the Zemplínska Šírava lave and the  Vihorlatské Vrchy mountain range.

7. Wellness in the hotel GlamourIf you are looking for a relaxing wellness stay while enjoying the sunbathing at Šírava, visit Hotel Glamor and enjoy the sauna in the luxurious four-star hotel. If you suffer from musculoskeletal pains, try the Finnish sauna, which also influences the loosening of  impurities from the skin, so it also has detoxication and cosmetic significance. Infra sauna also helps with the weight loss and cellulite problems. In the evening, you will dock and pass through the medieval square of the historic city centre. All of a sudden, you would be tempted to know something more, so you enter the charming cathedral full of artistic notabilia. This is one of the way your all-day trip may look like, as scheduled by our suggestions. If you do not feel like going to the water in the hot days and you prefer a refreshing shade of the forest, try biking trails near Kosice. 8. Sail družstevná pri hornáde – Košice dock, Aničkafamily sail in the immediate vicinity of Košice

Do you also link up sailing down the rivers with exciting expeditions from TV documentaries? Then you may be surprised that you can also sail a few kilometres from Košice with a start at Družstevná pri Hornáde. Although it is easy to sail and lasts for less than 2 hours, but if you take children to whom you tell stories about dangerous Indian tribes around the river, then the whole family will be entertained. Rent a kayak, raft or canoe to stay with Indian themes and go for adventure. At the end of the  sail, you can also enjoy some adrenaline while passing the Ťahanovce Wave.

9. Sail Kysak – Košice dock, AničkaSail from Kysak to Košice

Kysak is a well-known railway junction with the best kofola (a non-alcoholic beverage – the translator´s note). Hundreds of people travel to Košice every day but few of them know that the eastern metropolis can be reached in a more interesting way - by sailing on water. If you are in Košice, just sit on the train and in less than 20 minutes you are in Kysak, where a half-day sail is waiting for you under a 40 metres high limestone tower, known as the Jánošík Bastion, and over the tongue of Trebejov. In Družstevná pri Hornáde, a kayak or canoe has to be carried through a small hydroelectric power station and you may continue to Košice.

10. Sail malá lodina – Košice dock, AničkaEnjoy national nature reserves by kayaking or canoeing

The all-day sailing from Malá Lodina to Košice is one of the most beautiful ones in the region. Imagine how the slow flow of the river spreads through a beautiful landscape, while you are merely sitting, breathing fresh air and watching the breath taking rock formations of limestone beads in the national nature reserves of Boškov and Humenec. You may also see various species of fish or northern water birds - herons. In  Kysak, the Hornád turns south and takes your boat to Košice, which is approximately 30 kilometres from Malá Lodina.

Červený breh bike parkA paradise for bikers with a beautifulview of KošiceOnce a ski lift, located in the immediate vicinity of  Košice, is now used by the enthusiastic bikers who can enjoy a huge amount of fun on the Červený Breh. The  bike park is for the time being in operation as a  club affair, but anybody is welcome. Come along, hook up your bike by the towing vehicle and  as  soon as you get up there, you will be stunned by the  splendid view of Košice. Going through the flaps, you may first test your technical skills and get a quick ride before you reach your destination. If you are a biker in both body and mind, contribute to the development of a bike park - enough if you come and  fully enjoy yourself.

12. Cycling routes in the forest environment near the cityfun on two wheels for families and skilled bikersWhen the sun shines out, we run to the water, but sometimes we hide in the shade of trees, ideally fanned by a pleasant breeze in the saddle of a bicycle. In close proximity to Košice, you can choose from several interesting cycling trails in the beautiful forest environment. If you go out with kids, try and take the easier single track DržHubu (keep your mouth shut) with a length of 1.2 km and over 60 meters of elevation. There are some come downs, a double wave, and two separate waves. the bike trail Jahoda (strawberry) allures one by its come downs, but also jumps over the lying trunks or fallen trees. Better trained bikers would welcome the Lesmír single track. Currently, only its first part is completed with  waves, double waves, come downs and jumps that may be jumped over, ridden by or bypassed. It ends up at a  meadow where you can get to the Červený Breh bike park.

Košice ZooEnjoy a day in a beautiful forest parkwith 140 species of animalsThe Košice ZOO, situated in a beautiful forest park with many recreational zones, attractions and children‘s playgrounds, is an ideal place for spending a day trip. Everybody will find its place of interest in this third largest ZOO in Central Europe. If you come there to relax, take advantage of some of the scenic hills with focal points and enjoy having your picnic in nature. If  you are looking for excitement and are at least 18 years of age, take the opportunity to become a zookeeper for a  few hours and feed carnivorous animals, get to know exotic birds or deadly toxic reptiles from the immediate vicinity. The smallest ones will also get enchanted by the Dinopark or the public feeding of various animal species, which, due to the vastness of the site, often live here in  great outcrops reminiscent of their natural habitat.

14. The City of KošiceKošice – fascinating harmony of the oppositesDo you know what is the most attractive thing about Košice? Someone could say that it is the atmosphere of the Main Street lined up with tasteful pubs and cafes with stylish terraces that remind us of the peace and immediateness of  the good old days. Others, on the contrary, would mention modern creative neighbourhoods and lively cultural centres that further cultivate the living space of the Košice residents. The uniqueness of Košice lies in the perfect harmony of old and new, traditional and modern. It is no wonder that in 2013 Košice became the European Capital of Culture. Are you interested in culture and history? Do you enjoy contemporary design and art? Do you have a taste for a classical music concert? Are you looking for an interesting exhibition opening? Do you want to reset your mind by listening to the rock music? In Košice you can do anything. And you just as well may do nothing. Sometimes it is enough to just sit down on one of the terraces of the historic centre and just enjoy the authentic atmosphere.

If we were to choose two most interesting sails from among the dozens of sails in the Košice region destination, the first choice would probably be the sail through the Slovenský Raj and the second one would be the all-day sail of the Hornád river to  Hungary. In the former case, it is an indescribable - and maybe unique even in Slovakia - experience in  the unspoilt nature of the National Park, while the  sailing to Hungary entices by its diversity, as you will enjoy sailing, swimming in the gravel deposits and camping in the Hungarian camp. If you are a  sports enthusiast, you may combine cycling with some cycling trails around Košice. If you prefer culture, combine your visit to the region with the Košice sightseeing tour, which offers an incredible concentration of historical and historic cultural monuments.

15. Sail through the Slovenský Raj by the hornádu breakthroughSail in the National park is a cruise through paradise

Until recently, the wild beauty of the Slovenský Raj with its typical canyons and waterfalls, was only accessible by using the step boards and ladders, but as of the year 2016 it has also been accessible to the general public by the  National Park administration. The  sail starts with romantic meanders overlooking the surrounding countryside and the Tatras, but the Hornád shores would gradually „encircle“ the 250 meters high rock walls forming a narrow canyon with rocks and wild water running under the water-holed rocks. This section is unique in Slovakia and in the surrounding countries, and  so it attracts boaters from a wide range. As this is a more demanding sail, we only recommend it to experienced boaters or under the  supervision of an  instructor.

16. All-day sail of hornád to hungaryTreat your family with water and camping adventures

Pack up your tent, sleeping bags, swimsuits, and  a  bunch of sausages and surprise your children by the adventures of the Hornád sail from Ždaňa to Hungary. Under  Košice, where the river begins to meander and flow in a narrow stream, you may first enjoy a slow slalom through occasionally fallen trees, and then you may have a  swim in several gravel-deposit ponds. At the end, in  Hidasnémeti, a campfire with fireplaces is built right next to the river, where you can erect your tent, prepare a  barbecue and plan another adventure in the light of  fire and cricket sound.
