The announcement was made last Friday by the Honorable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science. Over $173 million in funding was awarded for 203 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs at universities across Canada. McGill Reporter . BRE student receives inaugural Ice River Springs Master's Scholarship for Sustainability Congrats to Jillian Treadwell, an MSc candidate in the Department of Bioresource Engineering (Supervisor Grant Clark). Her research project “Driving factors for organic waste and phosphorus McGill researchers lead development of tool to assess environmental risks of chemicals $9.6M project funded through Genome Canada competition for natural resource, environment sectors. An interdisciplinary McGill team led by Prof. Nil Basu of the Department of Natural Resource Sciences in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Saskatchewan and Environment and Climate Change Canada as well as a series of industrial partners, is working on a genomicsbased tool for assessing the effects of chemicals on a range of fish, birds and amphibians. A major strength of the team, which includes Prof. Jessica Head and Prof. Gordon Hickey (also from Natural Resource Sciences), Prof. Jianguo Xia (Animal Science/Institute of Parasitology), and Prof. Steve Maguire (Desautels Faculty of Management), is its diversity and breadth of expertise. Showing prowess with theiraxes and saws not to mention teamwork and aseries of solid individual performances, thewomen are on track to sweep the 2016­17season. The men are third in a competitive field thatincludes perennial powerhouse Dalhousie alongwith Maritime College, UNB, Fleming andAlgonquin Colleges. The team shows potential toclimb up in the standings and are excited to showoff their skills at the Mac WoodsmenCompetition taking place on campus January28, 2017.
