History of the University

1931 Stalingrad Industrial Pedagogical Institute was founded

1932 It was renamed as Stalingrad Pedagogical Institute

1943 The Institute was destroyed during the Battle of Stalingrad in

1942 but the reconstruction was started immediately after the

victory over the fascists army in Stalingrad

1949 The Institute was named after the famous Soviet writer

Alexander Serafimovitch.

1955 Opening of agrobiostation, vivarium, Museum of Anatomy and

Geology, optical observation station for the Earth artificial

satellites

1956 Opening of the Club of International Friendship – “True Friends

Club”, the first issue of the newspaper “The Teacher”

1961 Stalingrad Pedagogical Institute was renamed into

the Volgograd State Pedagogical Institute.

1960-е Development of relations with foreign universities (USA, East

Germany, France, Czechoslovakia)

1969 The first Admission of foreign students from Vietnam,

Somalia, Afghanistan, Uganda, Lebanon and Syria

1970 The Faculty of Foreign Students started its work

1981 The Institute was awarded “The Badge of Honor” for its

contribution to the development of education and high

achievement in teachers training

1989 Foundation of the Educational, Scientific and Pedagogical

Laboratory under the guidance of the Vice-rector for research

N.K. Sergeev

1992 The University was granted the university status

1992 The University became a Federal Experimental Platform of

the Southern Branch of the Russian Academy of Education

2011 The University was renamed into Volgograd State Socio-

Pedagogical University (VSSPU).
