Job description* Provide compassionate care for pets* Restrain pets for veterinarians and technicians* Assist in the taking of x-rays* Monitor and collect urine and fecal samples as needed * Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized/boarded pets* Clean cages, runs, boarding area and/or hospital facilities, including exam rooms,

treatment room, exotics and isolation area, employee lounge, bathrooms and doctor’s office

* Maintain reception area in a neat and sanitary condition * Provide clean bedding, water and litter pans for pets* Feed hospitalized/boarded pets as needed* Exercise hospitalized/boarded dogs as needed* Take incoming pets to appropriate areas* Bathe pets and prepare pets for dismissal* Retrieve pets that are being discharged* Re-stock ward with food from food room* Bring retail food to reception area* Re-stock reception area shelves* Do laundry* Wash and sanitize pet dishes• Perform other duties as assigned

Duties and position• While veterinary technicians perform tasks such as administering medication and preparing animals for

surgery, veterinary assistants fill a different but equally vital role in the veterinarian's office. They support animal doctors and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work.

• Paleontologists unearth and study fossils of extinct species of plants and animals. They conduct research on prehistoric life forms and the evolution of plant and animal life. Some paleontologists work on-site, unearthing fossils. They have to study and preserve those fossils for transportation to museums and research institutes. The process is very delicate, since fossils that are thousands, or even millions, of years old are quite fragile. Other paleontologists serve as faculty members in universities or study the evolution of plants and animals in private research facilities. Experienced paleontologists with leadership capabilities often work as project managers or senior researchers on various government-funded or privately financed research project.

Hours they work

• Veterinarians tend to work long hours - often 60-80 hours a week in the first few years after vet school.

• Paleontologists do not have typical work hours. In fact, work hours will depend on the place of employment. Some paleontologists work in the field, others work in labs.

• Yearly pay The median annual wage for veterinarians was $84,460 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $51,530, and the top 10 percent earned more than $144,100.

• Geoscientists, including paleontologists, had an average annual salary of $97,700 as of May 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
