1. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS ON THE VERTICAL GOODS LIFT

● This leaflet gives the safety standards to befollowed by operators of a vertical goods lift.

● These are general standards, so that somerecommendations may not apply to a specificmodel.

● This leaflet does not replace themanufacturer’s instruction manual.

● These instructions are in addition to theinformation and warning plates on the machine.

● A goods lift is a machine designed for thevertical transport and distribution ofmaterials to different levels on a site.

● The goods lift must be used only for itsdesigned purpose by persons authorised andsuitably trained in handling this type ofmachine.

● The operator must familiarise himself withthe handling of the goods lift He must knowthe function of each control, the machine’spossibilities and limitations and the purpose ofthe safety devices.

● Never use the machine when any fault isfound during the daily inspection or in use.Report it immediately to the machine’ssupervisor or the rental company.

● Maintenance, repair or any modifications to thecircular saw bench must only be carried out byspecialised personnel from the rentalcompany.

● Do not over-ride the electrical interlockingdevices on the goods lift and on its accessgates on each floor.

● Wear working clothes with adjustable cuffs. Chains, loose clothes,etc, that could be trapped are not recommended.

● The safety equipment shown in the site health and safety plan mustbe worn in the situations described in it. The following describes therecommended safety equipment:

● Safety helmet. Must be worn when there is a risk of falling objectsor blows to the head.

● Safety boots. These are obligatory on the site. The soles must bepuncture-proof and anti-slip.

● Safety gloves. When handling the load.

2. PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT

● Know the site health and safety plan. Keep up todate daily on the work carried out that may cause arisk (lack of handrails, etc), of other work being carriedout simultaneously and the state of the working area.

3. BEFORE STARTING WORK

● The control panel must be located where the operatorhas visual control of the load’s vertical movementand where it cannot be operated from inside thegoods lift platform.

● Keep passageways dry, clean and free of objects forthe supply and removal of materials on both theground floor and higher levels.

● Cordon off the loading area on the ground floor toprevent persons from passing through it.

● Before connecting the goods lift to power, check thatthe voltage and frequency match those on the controlpanel data plate.

● The connection must be made using a weatherproofplug. Do not make direct connections by sticking thewires into the socket. Do not overload the socket byusing adaptors.

● Check that the power point has a circuit breaker,magneto thermal switch and earthed base. Do notover-ride these devices.

● The circuit breaker may be of low sensitivity (300 mA)as all the concrete mixer’s ground connections areearthed at less than 80 ohms. Otherwise, the circuitbreaker must be of the high sensitivity type (30 mA). Ifthere is any doubt over the suitability of the earthconnection, consult an electrician.

● When extension cables are used, check that they areof a suitable cross section and have an earth wire.Always check the continuity of the earth cable.

● Keep the electrical cable unravelled and away fromheat, puddles or water or oil, sharp edges and movingparts. Protect the electrical cable where it runsthrough areas transited by workers and vehicles.

● Do not operate the goods lift in potentially explosiveatmospheres (near to stores of inflammable materialssuch as paint, fuel, etc).

● Do not use the hoist in bad weather (rain, snow,insufficient light, etc) or in wind speeds greater than55 km/h.

● Check the stability and verticality of the goods lift mast and the properfixing of the anchorings.

● Check that the goods lift has no apparent structural damage and thatthe electrical panel is waterproof.

● Check that there are side protections on the goods lift platform anddoors on the various levels.

● Check that there are safety devices (electrical interlocking on thedoors, stroke end stops, etc).

● Check that the electrical cable, the plug and the cable drum are ingood condition.

● Keep the goods lift platform clean and dry.● Ensure that that the information and warning plates on the goods lift

are clean and in good condition.● At the start of the day, fully raise and lower the empty goods lift to

check that:● The goods lift moves without making unusual noises or vibrations,

stopping at the correct height at each level.● The end stroke stops operate properly at the upper and lower limits.● The goods lift cannot move when he ramps, handrails, access gates,

etc, are open.● The electrical cable rolls and unrolls onto and off the cable drum

properly.● The emergency stop and the anti-crush bar operate correctly.

4. DAILY CHECKS ON THE GOODS LIFT

● Keep the goods lift access gates and ramps closedwhen not loading or unloading material.

● The goods lift is not designed to carry persons. Do notallow persons to remain on the lift while it ismoving.

● The goods lift operator must remain in a protectedarea or outside the area to which objects could fallfrom the platform.

● Before starting the goods lift, check that check thatthere are no persons or objects protruding from thebuilding’s structure in the vertical travel of the load.

● When the travel of the cage is beyond the operator’sfield of vision, starting the goods lift must operate awarning signal, either acoustic or a light.

● Pay attention to the proper rolling and unrolling of thecable on the cable drum when the goods lift isoperating.

● If a fault is found in the operation of the hoist, lowerthe load to the ground if possible, unload the materialand stop the machine immediately. Press theemergency stop button in the event of imminentdanger.

● Do not lift loads heavier than the maximum shownon the goods lift.

● If the platform is overloaded, the load limiter will stopthe lift from operating. To re-start, the weight of theload must be reduced until the machine runs perfectly.

● Spread the weight of the load evenly on the goodslift platform.

● Do not allow the load to protrude from the sides ofthe cage.

● Fix the load when it might move in the cage orexceed its height.

● If small, heavy loads must be lifted, place them in thecentre of the platform as close as possible to thevertical mast.

● Do not place panels, cloths or similar in the cage or liftbulky loads that greatly increase wind resistance.

● At the end of the job, lower the goods lift to theground.

● Block the on switch to prevent use by unauthorisedpersons.

● Unplug the electrical cable and disconnect it from thecable drum. Do not pull on the cable to unplug it.

● Keep the cable in a clean, dry place protected fromthe weather.

● These are general standards, so that somerecommendations may not apply to a specificmodel.

● This leaflet does not replace themanufacturer’s instructions.

● These instructions are in addition to theinformation and warning plates on the machine.

● Read this leaflet together with that for thepneumatic tool to be used.

● A compressor is a machine designed to providecompressed air to pneumatic machines suchas drills, screwdrivers, vibrators, etc.

● It must be used only by persons authorisedand trained in handling this type of machine.

● The operator must be familiar with thehandling of the compressor before using it forthe first time. He must know the function ofeach switch, the machine’s possibilities andlimitations, the manner of stopping the motorquickly and the purpose of the safety devices.

● Never use the compressor when any fault isfound during the daily inspection or in use.Report it immediately to the machine’ssupervisor or the rental company.



● The safety equipment shown in the site health and safety plan mustbe worn in the situations described in it. The following describes therecommended safety equipment:● Ear defenders. These are obligatory when the noise exposure level

● The compressor must be approved for towing onpublic roads, with all the legally-required signallingand lighting equipment.

● Use the lifting and fixing anchorings on the machinefor moving it over long distances. Follow therecommendations of the rental company.

● Place the compressor on a stable, level surface thatis as clean and dry as possible and free of materialsand objects.

● Do not place the machine in an area transited bymachinery or persons or in areas under hanging loads.

● If necessary, place suitable protections for the areatransited by pedestrians, workers and vehicles.

● Do not place the compressor near the edges ofslopes, trenches, structures, etc, unless there areeffective protective measures (handrails, nets, etc).

● Once the compressor is in place, immobilise it withthe parking brake and by chocking the wheels.

● Adjust the levelling pivot to keep the drawbar ashorizontal as possible. A slant of more than 25% isnot recommended.

● The machine must only be used in closed spaces(inside buildings, tunnels, etc) when good ventilation isassured before starting the engine. In these cases, theengine must be stopped when the machine is not inuse.

● Do not allow exhaust fumes to fall on any person.

● Never use the compressor in potentially explosiveatmospheres (near to stores of inflammable materialssuch as paint, fuel, etc).

● Place the compressor at least 1 m from walls andequipment.

● Place the compressor at least 10 m from the workingarea.

● Check that the compressor has no apparent structural damage or leaksof liquids.

● Check that the tyre pressures are correct and that there are no cuts intheir treads.

● Check that the fuel, engine oil and cooling water (if applicable) levelsare suitable.

● Check that the parking brake and the drawbar levelling pivot functioncorrectly.

● Check that the air inlet filter, safety valve and discharge device are notblocked.

● Check the condition of the valves and connections and for lack ofcracks or wear in the hose.

4. DAILY CHECKS ON THE COMPRESSOR

■ Cuts.■ Blows from

uncontrolledmovements of thehose.

■ Engineoverheating.


■ Cuts.■ Blows with the

hose.

● Before starting the engine, check that the air outletvalves are closed and that nobody can handle thecompressor.

● Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for starting thecompressor’s engine. Once running, check that thepilot lights are off, the engine is not making anyunusual noise, there is no excessive vibration norlarge temperature increase.

● The compressor’s operating pressure and speed mustalways remain within the nominal operating valuesgiven by the manufacturer.

● While the engine is running, the compressor’scovers or doors must remain closed. Nobody mustbe allowed to remain close to the machine withoutwearing suitable ear defenders.

● Before connecting the work tool, check that thecompressor’s working pressure and flow matchthose of the tool, hoses and couplings to be used.

● Never connect a pneumatic tool to the compressorwhich has no data plate or one that has been erased.

● To start work, first connect the hose without forcingthe air outlet valve and then connect the tool to thehose. Finally, hold the hose and smoothly open thecompressor’s air outlet valve.

● Do not use compressed air from the compressorfor uses other than those specified by themanufacturer. For example, cleaning clothes, aimingthe air jet at other persons, using it to supply air forbreathing, etc.

● At the end of the job, firstly close the compressor’s airoutlet valve.

● Before disconnecting the tool and hose from the airoutlet valve, operate it for sufficient time to dischargethe pressure in the system.

● Finally, stop the engine following the manufacturer’sinstructions and block the compressor to prevent itsuse by unauthorised persons.

■ Uncontrolledmovement of thehose (whiplash).

■ Bursting.


■ Burns.■ Splashes or

contact withcorrosive liquids.

● Do not inflate the tyres above the pressure specifiedby the manufacturer. When inflating tyres, keepaway from the connection point. A bursting hose ornozzle could cause a whiplash.

● Fill with fuel in well-ventilated areas with the enginestopped and the battery disconnected.

● Do not smoke and keep away from operations thatmay generate heat. Do not keep greasy cloths orinflammable materials near the exhaust pipe.

● Fuel must be poured into the tank with a funnel. Iffuel is spilt, do not start the engine until the spill hasbeen cleaned up.

● Do not keep greasy cloths or inflammablematerials near the exhaust pipe.

● A fire extinguisher must be available in an accessibleplace near the machine.

● Do not touch the exhaust pipe or other parts of theengine while the engine is running or still hot.

● Top up the engine oil and coolant with the enginestopped and cold.

● Before starting the engine, check that the alternatorstarter switch is off and that nothing is connected tothe output bases.

● Check that nobody is working on the interior of thegenerator.

● Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for starting thegenerator’s engine. Once running, check that the pilotlights are off, the engine is not making any unusualnoise, there is no excessive vibration nor largetemperature increase.

● Finally, operate the alternator switch and check thatthe voltage and frequency match those on thegenerator’s data plate.

● While the engine is running, the generator’s coversor doors must remain closed. Nobody must beallowed to remain close to the machine withoutwearing suitable ear defenders.

● Before connecting the electrical equipment, check thatthe voltage and frequency at the generator’s outputbases match those on its data plate.

● Do not connect the generator to electrical equipmentthat has no data plate or one that has been erased.Never connect the generator to a power socket.

■ Damage toelectricalequipment.

● The total power consumption of the installation orelectrical equipment connected must not exceed themaximum power supplied by the generator.

● The installation or equipment must be connectedusing standard waterproof plugs. Do not connect bypushing sires into the sockets.

● Do not leave the generator with the engine runningwhen the job is finished.

● At the end of the job, firstly disconnect the equipmentconnected to the output bases and then switch off thealternator switch.

● Finally, stop the generator’s engine, following themanufacturer’s instructions. In the event of imminentdanger, press the emergency stop directly.

● Block the generator to prevent its use byunauthorised persons.

■ Uncontrolledmovement of thehose (whiplash).

■ Bursting.
