Chapter 1. General Information
DOPE, Dellorto Power Energy is a software developed by Dell’Orto S.p.A. in order to control
and manage the DoPe ECU.
All the parameters and adjustments required by the ECU to control the engine are “Engine
Configuration”, or ‘Configuration’.
For correct installation use a Wizard Setup in automatic start after double-click on
Setup.exe
1.1. Technical Information
For the correct Ethernet configuration between your PC and DoPe you must configure the
PC
For Windows XP:
1. Right-click on My Network Places, and then select Properties.
2. Right-click on the network connection for your network adapter, and then on
Properties.
3. On the General tab click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then select
Properties.
4. Click Use the following IP address and then type the following values only in
the IP address and Subnet mask boxes.
IP address: 10.1.xxx.xxx
where ‘xxx’ are free numbers that are necessary to be written here.
Following IP address are not allowed: 10.1.116.xxx
10.1.118.xxx
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
For Windows 7:
1. Click on START button and then on All control Panel Items.
2. Click on Network and Sharing Centre.
3. Then select the option Connections: Local Area Connection.

For a correct installation it must be used the ‘Setup.exe’ file that is located in the “DoPe
Setup files” folder.

All parameters, tuning adjustments and curve values are modified within this window. By
selecting the configuration variable that has to be modified, the appropriate window
will be displayed.

Chapter 2. All Parameters available in
DoPe Calibration Software
DoPe is a unique software available for the engine configuration, one version for
different access levels.
Currently (2011 release) the DoPe Software has two different access levels: one for the
Manufacturer (F) and one for the Race (R).
With Factory Level it is impossible to take part to Moto3 MotoGP World Championship
or in any other championship where the organization uses the same rules of World
Championship.
The Race (R) Level could be used in the Moto3 MotoGP World Championship.
In this chapter are listed all the parameters available for Start, Factory and Race
versions.

Chapter 3. How to open an engine
configuration
For correct use you need to load configuration.
There are three options to load it:
− directly from the ECU
− from the DoPE configuration database
− from a file
The open configuration will be showed in the left side of the screen.
It is possible to open several configurations in the same work session.
3. 1. Configuration from the ECU
It is possible to receive the configuration when the DoPe ECU is connected to the PC.
Click on “Upload Configuration” and the configuration will be showed automatically on
the screen.

The configuration from the DoPe ECU These already has an associated firmware.
The configuration of the DoPe ECU has already been associated to a firmware.
3. 2. Opening an existing configuration
It is possible to open an existing configuration by clicking on the option “File” in the
header bar and then on “Open”.
There are two ways to open an existing configuration. These configuration options
have already an associated firmware.
1. Saved configurations : the user chooses a configuration that has been saved
before in the DoPe database.
Select one configuration and then click on the “Ok” button to load it on the
screen.
• There are searching filters to simplify the process of selecting
configuration.
Just write the word to filter in the text box “Filter:” and then choose one
of the criteria:
o Filter by name.
o Filter by description.
2. Configuration files: this configuration is not saved in the database, therefore the
user must import it from a file (*.dopz). Click on the “Browse...” option and then
search the desired file in the “Open” window.

This feature can be used with files created by the 'Export' option in the menu by
clicking on “File” and then choosing “Save”
NOTE: Into the SetUp Files there is a sample configuration , the file name is
Zero.dopz. The user could use this file to see the configuration without DoPe ECU
connected.

Chapter 4. Modify a Configuration
All users can modify an engine configuration, the access level checks which are the
parameters that could be modify from each user.
Configuration values are modified and visualized within the “editable window”.
By selecting the configuration variable that has to be modified the appropriate window
will be displayed.

In the Operations Log area the user can see the information about the tuning

In the Operations log area you can see all the modifications, for each session, of the
configuration.
Appearing order is from first operations to the last.
With icon the software shows the corresponding parameter on screen.

In order to undo the last modification just click on it, it will become highlighted and it
returns to its previous value. It is possible to undo all modifications but always in
reverse chronological order.
In the same way it is possible to redo the last cancelled modification and all the
cancelled modifications (in the same order).
The following section will show in details how to modify parameters or tuning
adjustments.

To modify the mapping the user can make use of the configuration tree under the
Configuration Structure.

4. 2. B. View in graph
All information that you see in the table could be transformed in graph, this operation
it is easy. Select all the map values by clicking on the cell from the upper left corner.
All the cells become highlighted in blue.
Now right click and select the “View in
graph” option.
This action opens the graph window.

a. Select data for Graph
The user could be interested in only some part of the data, DoPe has the
option of selecting one column or one row to create the graph with the
selected cells.
All the selected cells become highlighted in blue, right click and select the
“View in graph” option to see the correlated graph.
4. 2. C. Modifying values
The user could modify the values in five different ways.
All the modifications will be listed in the “Operation Log” table.
Copy: copy the selected cells of the table.
Paste: paste the copied cells in the table.
Paste SPECIAL: SUM and Percentage
Offset: Adds the written value to the original one.

Percentage: Adds this percentage to the original value.
Replace value: Simply replaces the original value with the new one.
1. Modify map values
Select one single cell, column or row to modify values in the table. The selected
cells become highlighted in blue. Right click to see the following available
options. (cell text become red when modified)
Copy: copy the selected cells.
Paste : paste cells.
Paste Special: SUM, Percentage
Offset: Adds the written value to the
original one.
Percentage: Adds this percentage to the
original value.
Replace value: Simply replaces the original
value with the new one.
It is possible to change value showed in the table with the special button in the
footer table.
Show map values: it is the default option, where the user works. It shows the
actual value of each cell.
Show original values: it shows the original values, before any change
Show values differences: it shows the differences between map values and
original values for each cell
Correction Value
The user could customise the offset and percentage values in order to modify
values quickly.

Click on “Options...” button and then on “Tools” present in menu header
When the user enters the new value, this information can be used directly in the
table map in Offset and Percentage items.

4. 3. Parameters
As explained before, the parameter option includes a group of internal parameters to
set the starting point of the engine.
Depending on the firmware of the configuration there are different parameters to
modify. Usually the parameters will be only for Dellorto staff.
4. 4. Tuning Set
The tuning adjustment is a group of characteristics of the engine (and some of the
chassis) that can be modified and set by the user. The tuning adjustment option
includes all the parameters that may be changed with the Software Client DoPe.
Therefore, these parameters depend on the firmware configuration associated with
the configuration.

Find a parameter or a group
In the top of the Configuration structure there is the ‘Locate a parameter or a group’
function. This function allows the user to search a parameter.
All found items will be listed in the table below.
Double click on an item to select it and visualize it.
Use this icon to close parameter list.

Chapter 5. Save Database and Export
The File menu in the header toolbar has two possibilities: one for saving the
configuration and the other for exporting the file configuration
5. 1. Save Database
Either use “Save configuration to the database” option, the shortcut <Ctrl+S> or click
on the icon .

5. 2. Sections of the “Set configuration names” window
There are two main configuration settings:
Parameters (for Factory and Race Level)
Regulations (All Levels)
This section refers to the whole configuration.
The available operations in this area are (selected by checkbox):
Overwrite: Same name, it replaces the previous version.
Save: Save a new configuration, with a new name.
Cancel: Modifications will not be saved
5. 3. Export configuration to file
Click on the “File” option in the Header Toolbar and then “Save”. By clicking on the
“Export file” the user can export the configuration (filename.dopz).

Chapter 6. ECU connected
6. 1. Real ECU
When the ECU is connected to the PC it is possible to see the Ecu name in the header
toolbar. When the ECU is connected it appears a green textbox, see below.
To see all DoPe Ecu available click on ‘My ECU’ icon. The red textbox denotes an ECU
not connected.

6. 2. Virtual ECU
The user could work on physical DoPe ECU or with virtual DoPe ECU.
To create a virtual ECU the system needs the DOP file.
Only Dellorto Staff is allowed to load the MOT files.
6. 3. Upload Config
When the ECU is connected it is possible to Upload the configuration from ECU to PC.
Click on “Upload config” in the Header Toolbar.
The DoPe Calibration software shows automatically the new configuration uploaded.

6. 4. Download Config
When the ECU is connected (Green textbox), it is possible to Download the
configuration from PC to ECU. Click on “Download config” in the Header Toolbar.
The ECU configuration firmware must be compatible with the firmware configuration
that has to be transmitted.
The firmware compatibility is indicated in the tab of the configuration, using the colour
of the square, only when the ECU is connected.
Green coloured Box: Compatible firmware configuration. The configuration may be
transmitted to the ECU correctly.
Red coloured Box: Not compatible firmware. It is not possible to transmit the
configuration but it is necessary to update the firmware configuration.
The user could follow two ways in order to transfer the configuration:
1 – Select and Download: choose the active curve to transmit

2 – Download config : The system checks the compatible firmware and the ECU. If the
ECU is empty the automatic download is not possible. The user must use the icon
‘Select and Download’.
6. 4. A. Select and Download
Use this option to change the active curve to transmit to the ECU.
Click on the icon “Select and Download” in the header toolbar.
All the curves of the configuration appear in this window with the related groups.
Select the curve to be transmitted and click “Ok” button to transfer it.

6. 4. B. Download configuration
This option transfers to the ECU the same active configuration used before receiving.
During the transmission the system checks the configuration.
6. 5. SetUp (Configure)
It is possible to see several tuning operations when the PC is connected to the ECU
installed on the bike, including all linked components. Click on ECU in the header
toolbar and then on the icon Setup (Configure)’.

DoPe info window displays all information of the select ECU (Physical or Virtual).

6. 7. Errors
The user could see a list of all sensors that may be faulty might contain errors
(Available only when Real ECU is connected).
Green textbox means no error found.
Red textbox means errors and shows their number.
If the number is fixed it means that there had been an error but not in that moment.
However, if the number is increasing it means that the error still exists.
If the errors persist after clicking on the button “reset errors” (textbox still red) it goes
to check the sensor or the calibration.

6. 8. Map to Map
Map to Map compares the active configuration with others.
Click on “Map to Map” in the header toolbar and then on “Compare with” option
window.
1. ECU configuration: PC must be connected to the ECU.
2. Saved configurations: configurations saved in the database, below there is the
list of all the database configuration available.
3. Configuration Files: browse in the computer folder.
There are search filters that simplify the process of selecting the configuration. Just
write the word to filter in the text box “Filter:” and then choose one of the criteria:
o Filter by name.
o Filter by description.
Click the Ok button to confirm the set.
The Win Merge opens and shows the comparison. Both configurations are displayed in
the screen in .txt format. A yellow coloured line emphasizes where the configurations
are different.

6. 9. Update
This option allows to update the parameters available with DoPe version.
This operation it is possible only with Dellorto Staff releases
Click on the Update icon in the toolbar and select the configuration to be imported
In the Operations Log area you can see the correct update

The importation will be from the left configuration to the right one.
6. 10. Transmission (Only Dellorto Staff)
The Transmission function in the “Option” menu is available only for Dellorto Staff

6. 11. Correction
This option refers to the engine map curves. It is possible to set personalised offset and
percentage values in order to modify cell values quickly.
It is possible to manage all personal offsets and percentages.
Enter the new offset or percentage value in the corresponding gap and then click on
the “Add” button. Every value will be available by right clicking on every map.

6. 12. Miscellaneous
This text box indicates where the program selects the executable file of the Win Merge
software. If the user changes the default folder it is necessary to change this path too.
