Low-E Insulation R-Values

Shown below are current R-Values for Low-E Insulation as installed stand alone in steel buildings. We have indicated several calculations derived from the ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals Ch26. The calculations assume a 50 degree mean temperature with a 30 degree temperature difference. Outside to inside heat flow. All Low-E Insulation products are vapor barriers.

The actual installed R-Value may vary with other air spaces than those shown below, if interior panels are applied in the assembly, if the mean temperature is different than 50 degrees and several other factors. If higher insulation values are required for a particular building type or occupancy class, Low-E can be used in addition to mass Insulation products, such as fiberglass or board insulation, as part of an insulation system. Please feel free to contact us for assistance in determining combination system R-Values. A more precise roof or wall assembly calculation can be done for you if ESP, Inc. is provided design drawings. Here are some standard calculations using air space typical to metal buildings.

Air Space between exterior metal and Low-E Insulation 1.5” Roof: 11.18 RAir Space between exterior metal and Low-E Insulation 3.5” Roof: 13.72 RAir Space between exterior metal and Low-E Insulation 0.75” Wall: 5.72 R

Air Space between exterior metal and Low-E Insulation 1.5” Roof: 7.55 RAir Space between exterior metal and Low-E Insulation 3.5” Roof: 10.09 RAir Space between exterior metal and Low-E Insulation 0.75” Wall: 4.70 R
