Euroforester, Alnarp, Sweden

The task
• Only ONE student in our class knew about the European forest week
• Lack of communication? • How can we contribute to increase the
awareness and interest among forestry students?
• Students need to be involved!
Group work competition
• Ended up with two suggestions
1. The Master Thesis Competition
• Three categories: – Ecological, Social, Economic
• Each country has a responsibility to select one thesis per topic – they will organize the selection themselves
• Three expert panels selected by the European Forest Week organizers decide upon the two best theses in each category
1. The Master Thesis Competition
• Six best theses will be accepted to be presented in „Graduate Student Symposium” in European Forest Week – One of these will be chosen as the winner!
• Cash prize!! Glory!! Publicity!!
• All six will be published in the conference proceedings paper
• Public choice prize as well!
Instruments • Attention gained through the
competition. – Universities would be more interested – Good way to promote forest week and
get students interested • Ways to gain attention for
competition: – Social Media – Mailing lists – Information from professors
(part of courses?) – Administration
Expected results
• When the competition gains more popularity more people will be aware of the forest week – More significance for students as well
• More publicity for students own work • Integrated into forest studies programs • More connections between students and
forestry professional and organizations – Latest news of research and what is going on in
forestry
