Conjugating Infinitives
We use infinitives as the “name” of a
verb, or when talking about that
verb.
When we want to express that
someone is doing an action, we
must conjugate the verb.

Regular & Irregular verbs
Some verbs such as ser and tener are irregular.
This means they don’t follow any rules. We just have have to memorize the conjugations.
Other verbs are regular. This means they follow rules for conjugation.
Once we know the rules for a type of regular verb, we can conjugate any regular verb of that type.
Regular –AR Verbs
The first verb type we will learn is regular –AR verbs.
The infinitive always ends in –AR.
Examples include:
Hablar (to talk), Cantar (to sing),
Bailar (to dance), Dibujar (to draw), Descansar (to rest), Trabajar (to work)
Regular –AR Verbs
Let’s start by writing the conjugation
rules for –AR verbs on an index
card.
You can keep this in your folder as a
handy reference.
-AR Verbs
Yo:

replacements, not additions.
Ex. Yo bailaro Yo bailo
Hablar (“to talk”)
Add hablar to your verb chart and highlight the

Write *-AR to the left of the row and highlight it.
