    Optimal viewing

These slides are best viewed on a desktop or laptopcomputer running genuine Adobe Acrobat Reader

They have been tested on and are known to work onUniversity classroom PCs

The slides dont work properly on mobile devices, evenwith genuine Adobe Acrobat Readerespecially theembedded 3D models

Navigate through the slides with the Page Up or PageDown keys. Clicking on the headings in the margin or thesmall slide icons below also works.

How to use this online tutorial

Have your favourite neuroanatomy textbook beside yourcomputer (or an online equivalent)

Find the labelled structures in your textbook on the 3Dmodel

Turn and zoom the model as needed to improve yourunderstanding of the 3D structure

These slides can be navigated by clicking on the headingsin the margin or with the small slide icons below

Labelled 2D screenshots are provided as slides after themodel

What are the different ventricles the brain?

The right and left lateral ventricles

    The third ventricle

    The fourth ventricle

    How are they connected?

Foramina of Munro, also called the interventricularforamina, connect the two lateral ventricles to the thirdventricle

The cerebral aqueduct of Sylvius, also called themesencephalic duct, connects the third ventricle to thefourth ventricleThe fourth ventricle empties into the subarchnoid spacethrough

its median aperture, the foramen of Magendieits two lateral apertures, the foramina of Luschka

A repetition of these names: Munro, Sylvius, Magendieand Luschka

Interventricular foramina, mesencephalic duct, medianaperture and lateral apertures are acceptable howevermany doctors would only have been taught the eponymousnames
