Rethinking DataIntegration

Companies must master the twin challenges of integration and deployment. Nearly four out of five (79%) organizations said that the ability to define, model and lay out information for use in applications is important or very important. Likewise 70 percent said that it is important or very important to integrate information with operational systems to facilitate access, and 58 percent said that about the ability to rapidly assemble or develop information-class applications.

Two in five (41%) organizations said that their current technology for providing access to information is too difficult to integrate across businesses and systems.

Business users need information integration.

Deriving value from analytics requires organizations to prepare data for use, but today’s explosion of data volumes, types and sources makes this challenging. Moreover, information must be placed in an operational context to be acted upon. Because current integration methods cannot address all these needs, the results often are inflexible systems and data sprawl. Now, though, data preparation tools are available that enable virtualized access to multiple data sources, making it possible to deliver information promptly and in the appropriate contexts.

Basic tasks such as preparing data, cited by 47 percent of organizations, addressing quality and consistency issues (45%) and manually assembling data (39%) consume the most time in the creation and deployment of information.
