DACE WILL SPONSOR SIX FOR CCAE EVENT IN SAN FRANCISCO Are you a member of CCAE? DACE is agreeing to sponsor six staff members from each of the 10 DACE schools to attend the California Council for Adult Education, state conference in San
Francisco, April 21-23, 2016. If you are interested in being sponsored, you must send an email to your principal [email protected] before February 9, 2016,
expressing your interest in going. Priority will be given to CCAE members. Remember, CCAE members can be certificated or classified. We all share the mission of adult education excellence.
The three goals of CCAE are as follows:
Lobbying the California legislature for funding
Providing recognition of staff, certificated & classified
Provide staff development for members through attendance of the annual conference
If more than 6 DACE staff members apply, then names will be randomly drawn from all members that have applied for sponsorship.

Venice Skills Center’s main campuses for adult education! Over the last several months, the District considered moving the site to the Westchester High School campus. Consideration was given to moving a nearby charter school to Emerson, thereby providing space for the expansion of Playa Vista middle school to the former campus of the charter school.
Community meetings were held in which all affected stakeholders could voice their concerns. In addition, Emerson Adult Learning Center students and teachers voiced their protest of the move and were featured on several Spanish language news programs and in local newspapers. After many months of uncertainty, the decision was made that Emerson would remain an adult education campus, and the charter would remain in its current location. Many thanks to our Emerson students and teachers for their support, being a voice for their campus and demonstrating their pride in Emerson. Adult Learning Center.

Amethyst comes from the Greek word "amethystos," meaning sober. In ancient
Greece, the gemstone was associated with the god of wine, and it was common
practice to serve this beverage from Amethyst goblets in the belief that this would prevent
overindulgence. February's purple birthstone has been found among the possessions of royalty
throughout the ages. The intense violet hue of the Amethyst appealed to early monarchs, perhaps
because they often wore this color. The gift of Amethyst is symbolic of protection and the power to over-
come difficulty, and is said to strengthen the bond in a love relationship.

Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival
celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. It is also
known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chi-
nese name. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar
month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between 21 January and 20 February. In 2016, the Chinese New Year is Monday,
February 8th, starting seven days of celebration.
