vecalloy readable - polymet technical datasheet
TRANSCRIPT
Vecalloy Readable is the only Fe-based twin wire arc spray which is readable as-sprayed state and after exposure to high tempera-tures. ‘Readability indicates that the thickness of Vecalloy Readable can be read accurately with an Elcometer or similar thickness gauge. In addition to the inherent ‘readability’, Vecalloy Readable coatings form a hard wear resistant layer. The high wear re-sistance coupled with the coating remaining ‘readable’ after exposure to high temperatures make Vecalloy Readable the perfect coating for power generation applications such as the coating of boiler tubes.
DESIGN APPROACH
The design process for Vecalloy Readable involves a proprietary high throughput computational metallurgical process to evaluate millions of candidate alloy compositions. Potential candidates are evaluated using advanced screening processes where both properties and microstructure are measured.
This innovative process allows us to rapidly design the final material with impeccable accuracy—a much more advanced approach than conventional experiment-based methodologies.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Vecalloy Readable possess several unique properties which make it highly effective in boiler coatings:
1) It is an Fe-based alloy which can be effectively and consistently delivered via the twin wire arc spray process.
2) The material remains readable after exposure to high temperatures.
3) The alloy forms a hard wear resistant coating.
Until now, readable coatings were:
1) Limited to processes which are less effective at spraying large areas such as HVOF
2) Utilizing high cost raw materials such as Ni-based alloys.
Vecalloy Readable enables the twin wire arc spray technology to deliver high quality, high performance readable coatings.

DETERMINING READABILITY
Vecalloy Readable has been verified as ‘readable’ in the as-sprayed and heat treated condition. It is always recommended that
the thickness gauge be calibrated to read Vecalloy Readable. The best method to achieve this task is to spray 1/2 of a flat test
coupon so that the elcometer readings can be calibrated to readings with a 0-1 micrometer. Readability testing by us has been
tested in this way using 10 consecutive readings with as-sprayed coatings and coatings exposed to 700oC for 4 hours. This testing
shows that the thickness of Vecalloy Readable coatings can be measured accurately with a elcometer or similar thickness gauge.
