English, Chemistry, Physics, Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Biology (2015)

Avila College is delighted to award the title of ‘DUX 2016’ to Katerina Sova in recognition of her outstanding academic accomplishments. Katerina achieved a perfect study score in Physics and the top study score for Avila College in both Specialist Mathematics and Mathematical Methods.

Katerina has been a competent, dedicated and committed student in all of her subjects. She is intrinsically motivated and has demonstrated an intellectual maturity beyond her years.

Her academic success was acknowledged at Presentation Evening when she was recognized as an exceptional student and presented with academic awards for Mathematical Methods, Physics, Specialist Mathematics and Academic Excellence. She was also awarded the Patricia Ryan Love of Learning Award which recognized her as a thinker, excited about ideas.

Katerina’s love of learning is demonstrated by her involvement in the exploration of ideas, her willingness to follow up new insights, her receptiveness to advice and her capacity to integrate this skillfully while maintaining her personal “voice”.

Katerina is well respected by staff and peers for her dedication, her calm and diligent approach to study and her humble, dignified nature.

As a member of the Orchestra and the String Ensemble, Katerina has involved herself in the musical life of the College.

Katerina is aiming to qualify for the Women in Engineering Scholarship and hopes to study Bio-Medical Science and Engineering at Monash University.

Catherine Pagliaro98.35

English, Legal Studies, Italian, Mathematical Methods, Health and Human Development, Global Politics (2015)

A committed student, enthusiastic public speaker and keen sportswoman Catherine Pagliaro has achieved the top study score for Avila College in both Legal Studies and English.

Captain of Nagle House, Catherine has been a valued and involved member of the Avila community.

Waverley Lions Club Youth of the Year 2015, Catherine has demonstrated a continued passion for public speaking, receiving College Colours, the Avila Debating and Public Speaking Award and was runner up in the VCAA Plain English Speaking Competition in 2016.

Catherine has also been acknowledged for academic excellence and participated in the Red Cross Door Knock Appeal whilst focusing on her studies.

Catherine is hoping to pursue tertiary studies in Law and Global Studies at Monash University.

Amanda Disilvestro98.3

Avila College’s Stage Crew Captain, Amanda Disilvestro has achieved a perfect study score for English (EAL), her second language. Amanda has also achieved Avila’s top study score in both Studio Arts and Religion and Society.Passionate about stage crew and the arts, Amanda Disilvestro’s academic excellence has been coupled with an active participation in community life which was acknowledged by the SRC Spirit Award in 2015.

Amanda will continue to apply her creativity to her academic work as she plans to study Animation and Interactive Media Design at RMIT.
