On February 16th,1918, the Council of Lithuania declared to the world: "The Council of Lithuania, as the sole representative of the Lithuanian nation, based on the recognized right to national self-determination, and on the Vilnius Conference‘s resolution of, proclaims the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania, founded on democratic principles, with Vilnius as its capital.

The Resolution, later was named the Act of Independence of Lithuania.This Act started a new stage of Lithuanians’ struggle for freedom.

The first Lithuanian State Council, which on February 16th, 1918 signed the Act of Independence of Lithuania.

House of Signatories – the historical and architectural monument, wherein on February 16th, 1918 the Lithuania State Independent Recovery Act was signed.

The 16th February takes a special place in the history of the Lithuanian nation and the State of Lithuania. Commemorating this day, we think about political culture of our ancestors and their courage in choosing the path to the Lithuanian nation into the European continent and into the world.
