What are Solvent Dyes?

• Solvent dyes are basically soluble in organic solvents and usually utilized as a solution in them.

• They will probably not produce any discrete films or residues while being manufactured.

Page 3: Various features of solvent dyes

Characteristics of solvent dyes - 1

• Solvent dyes are completely insoluble in water.

• With their solid capacity of being dissolved in organic solvents, it makes them quite important in enhancing various colors within their most quality & consistency.

Characteristics of solvent dyes - 2

• The particles within solvent dyes are naturally non-polar or minor polar and avoid going under any ionization process, thus

being capable of distancing themselves from irons due to overheat or reaction of electrical or chemical kinds.

Characteristics of solvent dyes - 3

• The granular redisposition also makes these dyes solvable in non-polar solutions (e.g. triglycerides).

• A usual pool of solvent dyes may also include alcohols, fats, waxes, oils, aromatic hydrocarbons etc

Two types of solvent dyes

• Basic Dyes & Metal Complex Dyes - varying through their light fastness being slower to faster.

• Their classification closely follows sorts of colors targeted with the naming system like the Solvent, Color and Number allotted to (e.g. Solvent Red 132, Solvent Black 27 etc.).

Applications of Solvent Dyes - 1

• Color Masterbatches• Wood Stains• Fibres, Filaments• PET, PVC, Nylon• Gold Imitation• Coloring Industry.

Applications of Solvent Dyes - 2

• Hydrocarbon Fuels, Waxes• Metalized Polyester Films• Engineering Plastics like ABS• Printing (e.g. Marking/Inkjet) inks• Beverage and Food Companies• Media Industry (e.g. Newspapers, Magazines)• Medical Research / Diagnostics.

Solvent dyes are also used to

• To change the current color of any surface or recolor the dented textures. They are often customized matching with particular needs of industrial or personal sorts.

Advantages of Solvent Dyes - 1

• Consistent color shades, unswerving quality and delivery.• Better Light Fastness (an ability to endure color changes when

being exposed to sun or light).• No precipitation after an extensive storage.

Advantages of Solvent Dyes - 2

• Great resistance to migration.• Good thermal Stability

(resistance against corrosion at extreme temperatures).

• Highly dissolvable in plastics, being able to melt at appropriate temperatures that leads to superior color yield without any shade changes.
