About Habitat

The lack of affordabale housing in Canyon County—as in the rest of the U.S.—forces families to pay excessive amounts of money

to rent housing with often unsafe or overcrowded conditions. Finding a way out is next to impossible for many low-income families.

Studies show how home ownership can create a better future for the whole family. Children of home owners benefit in the following ways:

• 25% are more likely to graduate high school• 16% are more likely to graduate college• 20% are less likely to be a teenage mother • 59% are more likely to own a home within

10 years of leaving their parents’ home1

The unique mission of Canyon County Habitat for Humanity (CCHFH) is to foster dignity, self esteem, and economic security among low income families by building safe, efficient, decent, and affordable housing. We are a locally-managed independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The CCHFH affiliate was formed in 1995 as a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation.

Since 1995, the CCHFH affiliate has built 12 houses with the help of community groups, churches, individual volunteers, and the homeowner families.

The Benefits of Giving

Many people give simply because of the satisfaction they gain from helping to improve their community. Additional benefits may include the following:

• income tax deductions• visibility as role models• protecting capital gains from taxation

Due to the growing need for more affordable homes the Board of Directors set a new goal of building 10 homes by 2014. We estimate we will need to raise $490,000 by December 2014.
