The rector's 02.03.2017 Order No. 156 L / C
REGULATION ON STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE EVALUATION, ASSESMENT AND REGISTRATION
WITH GRADE- RATING SYSTEM
Adopted by the Academic Council of VSU
Protocol No 1 dated 23.02.2017
VANADZOR, 2017

I. KEY FEATURES
1.The integration into Bologna Process suggests a three-level system of higher education
(Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, Doctoral degree) , with the application of more flexible
academic processes, promoting the educational freedom of instructors and students. In
particular, the student gets an opportunity to be actively involved in drawing up his/ her
individual study plan, hence in becoming a specialist, and the instructor gets an opportunity
to choose such methods and means of teaching that provide a high quality of the educational
process.
The investment of multifactor systems of academic credit accumulation and transfer, and
knowledge assessment is of great importance for the realization of reforms in the educational
process, greatly contributing to the students' academic freedom.
2.The following regulations are based on the Law on Education and Law on Higher and
Postgraduate Professional Education of RA, the Resolution on the Introduction of the Credit
System in the Higher Educational System of RA (2005, NO 2307-N), The Exemplary Order
of Organizing the Credit-based Educational Process in Higher Educational Institutions
(certified by RA Minister of Education and Science on June 9, 2007), The Methodological
Guide on Reconstructing the Curriculum Based on Credit System and Allocating Credits to
Educational Modules" and the prescriptive letters of the RA Minister of Education and
Science.
3.The provisions of the Regulations take effect from the day of their approval by the
Academic Council and from that time "Regulations on Organizing the Educational Process
and Testing, Assessing and Recording the Students' Knowledge Based on the System of
Accumulating and Transferring Credits" (certified by the Academic Council on 29 October,
2007)h is repealed.
II. KNOWLEDGE TESTING AND ASSESSMENT SYSTEM
4. Fundamentals of the system.
VSU operates a multifactor system of periodic testing and assessing the students’ knowledge
in Bachelor’s, Master’s and PHD cycles, the main objectives of which are:
a) to organize proportionate working process of learning with the help of periodic
knowledge testing and evaluation during the semester, to stimulate the students’
individual work and improve their attendancelevel
b) to ensure veracity and objectivity of effective assessment of the students’
knowledge and skills by means of individual tests, current and final testing (tests
and examinations), other components of the educational process
3
5. The requirements on the level of a student’s preparedness for tests and
examinations must ensure comprehensive testing, evaluation of the future specialist’s
professional skills and competences according to the corresponding professional
educational standards.
6.Final testing (examinations and credits) is intended to evaluate astudent’s
theoretical and practical knowledge obtained during the semester, their sustainability,
the development of creative thinking, acquisition of individual work skills, the
combination of the obtained knowledge and its application in the solution of practical
problems.
7. Current testing is a form of testing and assessing the acquisition level of the
sections of a course studied during a semester, the application of which
a)contributesto obtaining more profound knowledge through the students’ steady
and proportionate work during the semester
b) facilitates the acquisition process of competences and mastering skills, allowingthe
students to take the examination of the course in parts.
c) raisesthe level of the students’ academic discipline
8. The dates of current testing, credits and examinations are set in accordance with
the schedule of the educational process.
9. The organization, performance and summary of current and final testing as well as
the records of the students’ rating are done by the corresponding Deans and are
summarized in the Department of Education.
10. Knowledge testing and assessment are organized through the following components:
a)Assessment of the level of the students’ enrolment in the learning process through
attendance
b)Recording and assessing the students’ participation in seminars and laboratory work, their
activeness at the classes
c) Recording and assessing the students’ individual work (individual assignments)
d) Current testing and assessment of the subchapters of the educational module and other
tasks designed by the program during the semester (current and final examinations or
credits)
e) Integration of the testing results, formation of the effective assessment (mark) of the
course (educational module) based on the level of the student’s participation in the course,
4
individual tasks, participation in practical (seminar) and laboratory work, evaluation of skills
and competences, current and final assessment.
III. GRADING METHODOLOGY
Depending on the nature of the coursesintended by the educational programme,
workload, training forms and teaching methodology, andtaking into consideration the
importance of the course in the formation of the students’ professional skills and
competences, the courses are divided into two groups, according to their final testing forms:
courses ending with an examination
course ending with a test
The testing forms of the student’s knowledge, professional competences and skills in the
given course are registered in the methodological packs of the course (specialization)
12. The list of courses ending with examinations is determined by the Scientific Council of
the corresponding Faculty.
13. A course ending with an examination suggests 2 current examinations (according to work
plan), together with the cumulative examination (hereafter Cumulative examination).
A current examination, or a part of it, as a rule, is organized in written form (it can also be
held in written-oral form at the argumentative suggestions by students or the lecturer of the
course and the Methodological Council of the Faculty.
The following forms of current examination tasks are defined: checklist, test,
verification work, combination of the latter or creative work
As a rule, the part of the current written examination, scoring at least 8 points, is
made in the form of test task
The Form of the final examination (written, oral or written-oral) is approved in
February every year for the next academic year by the Methodological Council of the
Faculty, at the suggestion of the Chair conducting the course.
14. A course ending with testing is completed with 2-4 current tests determining the level of
the acquisition of the educational material and a final testing with the results of the
assessment of other components.
15. The current testing is conducted through checking the results of short oral tests, short
written work and other tasks of this kind. The Form of the current testing (written, oral or
written-oral) is approved in February every year for the next academic year by the
Methodological Council of the Faculty, at the suggestion of the Chair conducting the course.
16.The forms of summarizing the results of the laboratory work intended by the Educational
programmeand their presentation is approved in the corresponding Chair. The students do
5
the laboratory workunder the direct guidance and supervision of the lecturer conducting the
course.
17.The students’ final grade/mark (G exam)scored in the course endingwith an examination
is formed according to the following components:
