Speaker: Rich Alloo, Retired, Project General Manager in the Operations and Management Development Division of Toyota’s North American headquarters.

Moderator: Mark Novak, President, Check-All Valve Mfg. Co.

One of the most crucial skills in organizations today is the ability to use, analyze and share information to improve decision making. Unfortunately, most companies today have difficulty approaching problems the same way and with the same consistency. Consequently, employees in the organization think differently about how to improve their work and most importantly how to standardize their ideas throughout the organization. Toyota’s 8-step problem solving process is a unique alternative to decision making that is applied from the Chair of Toyota Motor Corporation to the shop floor and the Team Member. In addition to the fundamentals, attendees will receive instruction about standardization, root cause analysis, breaking down the problem, and how to use the A3 form.

Speaker: Peter Gritton, Adjunct Professor, for the Lean Systems Program at the University of Kentucky.

Moderator: Mark Novak, President, Check-All Valve Mfg. Co.

The People Side of Lean is the cultural DNA piece of sustainable lean transformation. Organizations first implement the tools, improve efficiencies and eliminate waste, but then reach a plateau until they are able to gain full team member buy-in. This is a natural struggle point and a normal phase of the lean journey.

The University of Kentucky Lean Systems Program offers several activities to support and partner with executives and lean transformation leaders as they successfully navigate through this phase of their journey – to succeed with the People Side of Lean! You will learn about the behaviors needed to achieve mutual trust and understanding, setting expectations, and the employee lifecycle among other aspects of lean cultural management.
