Improving Academic & Social Learning of every student

Strategies: • Prioritise and promote the ILNP 9 core strategies with a

focus on the ‘case management approach’ in all classes.• Whole school data is collected using ‘on-entry’ testing,

NAPLAN, EAL/D Progress Maps to identify students for teachers to case manage, differentiate the learning environment and inform planning and teaching.

• Investigate the implementation of Pairwise Brightpaths assessment tool via an action research group.

• Teach, assess and report using the Western Australian Curriculum.

• Curriculum Committee established and operating.• Develop ‘whole school’ curriculum plans and approaches

with a strong focus on the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy.

• Implement the “Positive Behaviour School” initiative.• Establish SWAT team including LSC role, SAER program and

flexible use of EA time.• Implement strategies to encourage greater interest and

competence in STEM subjects amongst students.• Implement the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework.

Engaging and working with the community Building our School CultureAs a community, we share responsibility for each student’s education and care. We know that strong family-school partnerships enhance student learning. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to play an active role in supporting the teachers and the school, enriching the opportunities for all students.

Targets:• Maintain or improve student, parent and staff satisfaction

at Highgate Primary School measured by the School Board and Parent survey instruments.

• A school-wide communication strategy is developed to improve communication between the school and community over time.

We belong. Diversity, understanding and acceptance characterise our school. We celebrate our differences. We have a culture of fun and joy. Our students are always at the heart of our work.

Targets:• Increase ‘connection’ and ‘belonging’ amongst staff, students

and parents to Highgate Primary school measured by annual electronic survey.

the staff.• Implement the community designed School Vision and Core

accountability to achieve high standards for all.• Design a menu of activities and events that embed the cultural

characteristics below: - Allow innovation - Encourage ownership - Applaud the good works of others - Pay attention to others and our core values - Create and manage positive school symbols - Tell our story, develop pictures and articulate our journey - Care about each other in a trustful way - Embed a coaching culture where everyone is a leader, people

Celebrating and unlocking the potential of the staff

• Teaching staff self-reflect on their professional practice for continuous improvement using the AITSL Professional Standards and evidence based research.

• Develop analytical teaching practices with an emphasis on feedback from students, as per John Hattie’s Visible Learning model.

• Ensure collaborative groups, teams within the school and staff meetings are functioning well and staff participate, contribute and collaborate with each other.

• Form small teams for a variety of purposes to distribute leadership opportunities.

• Education Assistants to develop a greater capacity to deliver literacy and numeracy intervention programs along with social/emotional interventions.

• Staff vacancies are selected and filled on merit.

We encourage each other to go above and beyond. We are all active learners and we have a culture of high expectations and achievement. Our committed, professional staff members are innovative and open to change.

Targets:• Through a staged implementation approach, by 2018,

95% of teaching staff participate in a ‘Professional Learning Community’ including classroom observations from their peers.

• By 2018, the staff will have developed an explicit, coherent, sequenced plan for the delivery of numeracy and literacy across the years of the school which makes clear what (and when) teachers should teach and students should learn.

Strategies: • Professional Learning Communities are established and

supported.• Improve staff induction processes, including the

implementation and continuous review of the staff handbook.

• Individual staff develop and share their personal work and teaching philosophy in alignment with the school vision and Departmental requirements.

• Participate in 360 degree feedback as a requirement for the Principal and an opt in basis for other staff.

Strategies: • Develop a community designed School Vision and Core

Values for Highgate PS.• Develop quality partnerships with selected community

groups and organisations with the view to be generous and active citizens in the local community.

• Encourage a rich variety of extra curricula activities at Highgate PS.

• Identify and work with families with attendance rates under 90%.

• Develop a communication strategy to promote the school in the community and keep all stakeholders informed.

• The roles and functions of the P&C and School Board are clearly defined and adhered to.

* It is understood that we will review and adjust our targets annually.

Growing competence and character in our students is central to their success. We want our students to become skilled, openhearted learners for life.

3 and 5 be at or above ‘like’ schools in numeracy, reading and writing.

• Student Progress and Achievement to be at or above ‘like’ schools when measured 2015 – 2017 and

2016 – 2018 in all NAPLAN areas.• At least 85% of all students progress 0.5 – 1.0 progression

points in Pre Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 (over 12 months).• National Curriculum implementation aligns with

recommended timeline from SCSA.• 80% of IEC students in Phase One will achieve Level 2,

across all language modes, on the EAL/D Progress Map within six months of enrolment.
