Health Tip for this month - What You Can Do To Get more vitamins and minerals from foods Instead of supplements.

For vitamins A, C, and E fill half your plate with vegetables and fruits.

For vitamin D eat fish and strive for three servings of dairy products daily. If you are lactose-intolerant, buy fortified rice or soy milk, lactose-free cheese or fortified orange juice.

Get calcium from kale, broccoli, and almond butter along with dairy foods.

B vitamins are found primarily in meat and dairy. If you are vegetarian, get vitamin B from fortified breakfast cereals, dairy products and eggs.

Meat is the main source of iron. Absorbing Iron from non-meat sources, like spinach, requires vitamin C, so sprinkle your greens with lemon juice.

Vitamin K is found in dark, leafy vegetables. If you take Warfarin (Coumadin), your K intake must be consistent.

To absorb vitamins A, D, E and K from vegetables add a healthy fat, like olive oil
