Triunfando con Cristo, which is published by Publicaciones Mensaje de Vida; 58607 Road 601,
Ahwahnee, CA 93601. Much of the material included herein has been copied directly from those
materials and should be considered as belonging to them even though their materials are not
marked as copyrighted. The English translations and much of the editing in both Spanish and
English are the work of John Howard, Ivette Ramos, and María Marvan under the ministry of
Riverview Church of Bonsall, California. This original material may be used freely for any
ministry purpose without restriction.
The original materials are intended for a weeklong Vacation Bible School, which uses a
storytelling format where the teacher reads or tells the story along with color pictures to illustrate
portions of it. These stories have been edited into dramas or skits. This book is derived primarily
from the Libro de Maestro (Teacher’s Book) and the Alumno booklets in the Mensaje de Vida
materials with some material from the Libro de Director (Director’s Book).
The original Mensaje de Vida materials also include other excellent Spanish language resources
such as student books with material on each day’s lesson, maps, and craft suggestions. These
resources are great, even essential, parts of the Vacation Bible School resources, especially the
student books. They can be ordered from Mensaje de Vida at the address given above for very

Introduction
Organization of this Manual This manual is organized into three main parts:
This Introduction – This section gives an overview of the program and provides the daily flow of activities. This
section references details contained in the other two sections.
The Daily Sections – which contain the lesson material for each day’s lesson including the aim and purpose of
the day’s teaching along with the scripture passage covered, the surprise script, the drama script, the application
questions for the lesson, the memory verses, and the crafts and object lessons (including those in the student
books) for the lesson. It also contains references to the material in the Additional Resources section.
The Addition Resources Section – which contains or explains resources used on several days such as the student
books, the map, and theme song.
Some materials, mainly the student book, are partially covered in the daily sections and partially covered in the
additional resources section. Your best bet for understanding the materials not in this manual is to order a set of
them from Mensaje de Vida publishers and have them at hand when you go through the manual.
Planning and Preparation Like the materials in the original Mexico Outreach Resource Manual, this course requires quite a lot of preparation.
Typically drama casting, reading, and rehearsal require 10 or more hours together in addition to cast members’
individual study of the scripts. This does not include making props, scenery and costumes. Craft preparation and
object lesson preparation also takes several hours particularly if the crafts are supplemented with other appropriate
crafts and if a Women’s Craft Night (or afternoon) is planned. At Riverview, we try to devote an hour and a half of
each of our training sessions to drama rehearsal and VBS preparation.
It is important to organize your team both in Mexico and during your training sessions. You will need a VBS
director and a drama director. In the experience of Riverview church, it is important that the VBS director be an
adult. The drama director needs to be someone who is mature and has good leadership capabilities but doesn’t
absolutely have to be an adult. The Mexico Outreach Leader’s Manual has good guidance about team formation and
use of adult supervision along with youth leadership. It is important to make out a chart that shows who has primary
responsibility for each task on a day-by-day basis and who that person’s helpers are. The chart should be filled out at
the first meeting. Here’s a suggested list of tasks to be charted: Music team; Opening (pledge, promise prayer, and
announcements); Surprise; Drama team; Crafts (including student book, emblems, coloring); Scripture
memorization; object lessons, Map, Alphabet; Games (if you do them); Krata-Kraft lesson (if you do it); and
Closing. Many of these tasks (for example, object lessons) don’t need to be done be the same person each day. For
other tasks (for example, drama and music), it may be best to have a small team does it each day. Each team member
will be involved with multiple tasks each day. If our teams are more than 15 per church, we typically divide into two
groups for VBS preparation time in our training sessions: Drama (lead by the drama director) and everything else
(lead by the VBS director). The drama team does casting and rehearsal. The VBS director organizes the remainder
of the team to do craft material preparation, application question and object lesson rehearsal, memory verse
memorization, and other tasks. Preparation of drama costumes and props as well as some of the craft materials
preparation should be separate from the training sessions. At Riverview, it has been very effective to recruit a team
of church members who are not going to Mexico (usually they are mostly team members’ parents) to do this work.
Materials needed for the crafts described with each day’s lesson in this book include transparent tape, scissors,
pencils with erasers, colored pencils, glue, crayons and/or markers and extra paper. Take a pencil sharpener too. The
crafts in the daily sections are taken from the Mensaje de Vida materials and coordinate directly with the lessons.
You may want to add additional crafts especially for the older students. In addition you might want to get coloring
pages appropriate to the lessons from various Sunday school resource books. Translate the words and type them out
on pieces of paper. These can be glued to the coloring pages prior to making copies for the students to color. Tables
should be available for the doing the crafts. Spanish language materials from Mensaje de Vida should be ordered

several weeks in advance. These include student books, the map, and the theme song sheet. Optionally you can also
order the Krata-Kraft lesson, the Libro de Director (Director’s Book) and the Libro de Maestro (Teacher’s Book)
from Mensaje de Vida. The material from the latter two resources has largely been translated and incorporated into
this book. See the “Additional Resources” section at the end of the book for further explanation of the Mensaje de
Vida resources.
Division of Classes Mensaje de Vida suggests you divide into four classes: preschool: 4 to 6 years, beginners: 7 to 9 years,
intermediates: 10 to 13 years, and youth: 14 years and up. In Spanish, these divisions are called párvulos,
principiantes, intermedios, and jovencitos, respectively. At Riverview, we typically divide into 3 levels: ages 5-7,
ages 8-10, and ages 11 and up.With divisions you will be able to present the material better, adapting it to the needs
of the distinct ages. If you divide up, it is especially desirable to use some supplemental crafts for object lessons in
the older groups. If it isn’t practical to have four divisions or even two, you can put everyone together and have the
older children help the younger ones. For scripture memory and crafts, it may work best to divide into smaller
groups, as many as you have helpers on your staff, so that the students can have more individual attention.
Sometimes, because of lack of helpers or of space, you might not be able accept children younger than six years old.
Also, in cases where there are big differences in the reading levels don’t divide according to age, divide according to
ability: those that know how to read and write, those who don’t, with a separate class for the older ones who don’t
know how to read and write, so that they aren’t penalized by being with the younger children. The student books are
designed to support this (see the “Additional Resources” section).
Riverview typically also provides a ladies Bible study aimed mainly at the moms of the VBS students. It runs
concurrently with the VBS. To do this requires either a bilingual leader for the study or a dedicated translator. We
make sure to include one of the women church leaders in the study, usually the pastor’s wife. This facilitates follow
up of the ladies in the study. The lessons can be based on the VBS scriptures or something entirely different.
Lessons This book is designed for a five-day course with one lesson on each day. The material covers Holy Week, that is, the
events from Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem through his resurrection 7 days later. The five lessons are as
follows:
Lesson 1 – The King Enters (Matthew 21:1-17; Mark 11:1-9; Luke 19:28-48; John 21:1-29)
Lesson 2 – The Final Night (Matthew 26:14-46; Mark 14:10-42, Luke 22:1-46; John 13:21-38)
Lesson 3 – A Sad Morning (Matthew 26:47-27:31; Mark 14:43-15:20; Luke 22:47-23:25, John 18:2-19:6)
Lesson 4 – A Dark Noonday (Matthew 27:32-61; Mark 15:21-47; Luke 23:26-53; John 19:-17-42)
Lesson 5 – A Glorious day (Matthew 27:62-28:20, Mark 16:1-20; Luke 23:54-24:53; John 20:1-21:25)
For a typical Mexico Outreach week, the first lesson would be done on Sunday afternoon. The remaining lessons
can be done in the morning or afternoon, Monday through Thursday. The Mensaje de Vida course recommends a
sixth day for review and a closing ceremony with parents present. If this is desired it could be done on the evening
of the last program day in a Mexico Outreach week (i.e. Thursday).
The Daily Program This VBS program is designed to last about three hours each day. Some prefer to have the VBS in the morning,
others in the afternoon. Our Riverview Church groups usually do it in the afternoon. That allows us to travel to the
site after morning worship at camp, set things up, and have a shared meal with our partner church, including many
of the VBS students, before starting the program.
It’s better not to use a rigid timetable for the daily program. Allow the time to be used where it is most needed each
day. For example, you might allow the children to continue to say memory verses while doing a craft or coloring.
Adapt the program to your needs and preferences. The following table shows a suggested sequence with nominal
starting times for a morning or afternoon VBS. Although this manual is written mainly for a program using a drama
to tell the daily story, there are references to the storytelling format in what follows. This provides the flexibility to

use the Libro de Maestro to tell the story for those who might not have a big enough team to put on a drama but who
do have a person on the team fluent enough to tell the story in Spanish using the Libro de Maestro and its color
illustrations. The sequence and duration suggested below are flexible but provide a rough indication of how long
each part might take. The various activities in the schedule are explained further in the subsequent paragraphs.

Be sensitive to the need children have to break up activities in order to keep them from getting restless or losing
focus. For example, after the drama, breaking up into classes forms a natural activity that gets students out of their
chairs and moving around. If you do your program in one large group, you might find that you need to inject an
active song or something else to get them out of the chairs before plowing into the application questions. Depending
on your group, you might find you need to interject games or other “large muscle activities” at other points. It’s also
a good idea to offer a simple snack part way through the program.
Opening Everyone meets together for the following activities:
1. Scripture – To emphasize the atmosphere of reverence you may recite this in unison: “DIOS está en su santo
templo. Calle delante de Él toda la tierra, Habacuc 2:20” (“The LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be
silent before him. Habakkuk 2:20”). You can write this with a marker on a big sheet of paper fastened to a board
or easel. When the recitation is over flip the sheet to the back, allowing the next sheet to be revealed (the
promise, a song sheet, etc.) At Riverview, we made laminated sheets with this verse in large print years ago and
just reuse them every year. Note: if you are not actually meeting in a church building but in a house or another
building, explain that while this location is being used for meetings where we worship God and learn His word,
we must treat it as the house of God.
2. Pledge – Recite the following promise (or pledge): “Prometo lealtad a la sangrada Biblia, la Santa Palabra de
Dios, y la haré lámpara a mis pies y lumbrera a mi camino. Esconderé sus dichos en mi corazón para no pecar
contra Dios.” (“I promise loyalty to the sacred Bible, the holy Word of God, and I will make it a lamp to my feet
and light to my way. I will hide your sayings in my heart to not sin against God”). The promise should be written
either on a sheet on the board or easel or a blackboard. A song that venerates the Bible could be sung at this time.
The Libro de Director from Mensaje de Vida has a section with suggested Spanish language hymn resources. It
suggests singing at this time “Santa Biblia Para Mí” (“Holy Bible for Me”). It is a nice touch to have a younger
student stand up front with an open Bible in his or her hands during the recitation of the promise and the singing
of the hymn.
3. Prayer – Say a prayer blessing the students, teachers, and the lesson. Or, even better, have the church pastor do it.
4. A hymn of adoration. It is helpful for the children to learn a hymn of adoration each year and sing it each day at
this time. “Santo, Santo, Santo”, number 16 in the Mexico Outreach Resource Manual is excellent. In addition,
Mensaje de Vida recommends the hymns listed below. The numbers given are for the hymnal “Celebremos Su
Gloria” but can also be found in other hymnals.

5. (Optional) Teach a part of one of the Bible Object Lesson (Krata-Kraft lesson) that have been chosen to go with
this course material: “Razones para la Resurreción”, “Yo soy la Resurrección y la Vida”, or “Las Siete Palabras”.
See the Additional Resources section for more information on the Krata-Kraft lessons.
6. Singing. The first day you can introduce the theme song (see Additional Resources section) and perhaps sing
other familiar choruses.
7. Announcements. The first day you should announce the prizes for such things as the student who learns the most
verses, the one that bring the most visitors, and the one with the best work in the student book. See the
Additional Resources section for more suggestions on this.
8. The Surprise. This is explained in the following paragraph.
The Surprise At the end of the opening each day you should reveal a surprise that relates to the daily lesson. The idea is to give an
element of suspense and to stimulate the interest of the children in the drama. You can hide the surprise somewhere
in the classroom or you can put it in a surprise box. At the end of the opening, just before the drama, pick one child
who will either search for the surpise item or reach into the box to take it out. Then give a short commentary to
create anticipation for the day’s lesson. But never explain the story. The suggested items and teases below for each
day are also on the first page of each daily section.
Day 1 – A little donkey. Either a drawing or a toy.
Tease: “En el drama de hoy, vamos a ver cómo pudo un pollino servir a nuestro Señor. Hizo algo que nosotros
no podemos hacer, pero nos enseña algo que podemos hacer” (“In today’s drama we are going to see how a
little donkey could serve our Lord. It did something that we can’t do but it teaches us something that we can.”)
Day 2 – An olive branch, a drawing of an olive, or an olive.
Tease: “Hoy vamos a ver qué pasó en un jardín donde crecían los olivos.” (“Today we’re going to find out what
happened in a garden were olives grew.”)
Day 3 – A flashlight, lamp, or torch.
Tease: “Veremos en el drama de hoy qué se buscaba con una antorcha en la oscuridad de una noche hace casi
2,000 años.” (“We are going to see in today’s drama what was searched for in the dark of a night almost 2,000
years ago.”)
Alternate: Some thorn branches woven into a circle
Tease: “Vamos a ver qué hicieron unos hombres con unas espinas en el drama de hoy.” (“We are going to see
what some men made from some thorns in today’s drama.”)
Day 4 – A flask of perfume (open it up so everyone can smell it).
Tease: “Hoy vamos a oír de una cosa que costaba mucho y tenía un olor muy agradable, un perfume especial”
(“Today we’re going hear about something that was very expensive and had a very pleasing odor, a special
perfume.”)
Day 5 – A piece of grilled fish or a honeycomb.
Tease: “Hoy vamos a ver a quién comió esto y por qué. ¡No fue porque tenía hambre!” (“Today we are going to
see who ate this and why. It wasn’t because he was hungry!”)
Alternate: A piece of bread.
Tease: “Hoy vamos a oír cómo un pan ayudó a unos hombres a conocer a otro.” (“Today we’re going to hear
how a piece of bread helped some men recognize someone.”)
The Drama or Story Drama – The drama for each day has been adapted from the daily stories in the Libro de Maestro from Mensaje de
Vida. The point is to communicate the day’s scripture passage to all the students together. The drama scripts were
written with the idea that most of the cast might not be fluent in Spanish. Accordingly they are in Spanish and
English. The English is intended to be a little more word for word with the Spanish rather than a smoothly flowing
equivalent. This helps the cast understand what the words or phrases in Spanish mean. The scripts are also written to
minimize the number of characters with significant speaking parts so that those with the best Spanish skills can be
assigned the main speaking roles. In several of the dramas Jesus has a significant speaking role. Ideally, one male
cast member with some decent Spanish reading skills should play this part throughout. Additionally, some of the

more fluent cast members can play different speaking roles in different acts effectively by doing a change of
costume between the acts. The narrator in each drama has a lot of lines but can read from the script from behind a
podium or music stand. Even so, the narrator will need to be able to practice in advance so as to be able to be
dramatic rather than simply reading the script. This means that if you use a translator as the narrator, you’ll need to
give him or her a chance to have the materials in advance.
Cue cards are a must, especially for those who are not fluent and should be used for the presentations themselves not
just for rehearsal. They prevent the cast from having to memorize all their lines in Spanish with the attendant flubs,
freezes, and meaningless ad-libs. See the Additional Resources section for information about the cue cards. For
preparation, it is recommended that the cast do a read through in English with the script to get a feel for the story, a
read through in Spanish from the script, and rehearsal(s) with the cue cards. The morning of each program day,
another read through in Spanish from the script is very helpful. You’ll need a director who stages the action and
directs the cast on their delivery of the lines. Some of the scenes do require a “cast of thousands” for example, the
triumphant entry scene in Day 1. Every member of your team can be pressed into service for these parts since they
don’t involve any speaking or at most a few words. In some cases you may even want to recruit some of the VBS
students to act as crowd members (make sure you have some extra robes if you do). The children roles in the temple
scene in Day 1 could also use VBS students. Also, a discussion among a group of people could be produced as one
person with one or more hand puppets, for example, the Pharisees in Day 1 could be an actor with hand puppets.
Good costumes, props and scenery add a tremendous amount to the effectiveness of the drama. Most likely your
church or group has some costumes from Christmas pageants and the like. If not, you should recruit someone to
make simple robes and head cloths. Impressive priest and Pilate costumes add a lot.
Each day’s drama script has a section at the beginning that lists suggested props. Some of the props are crucial to the
effectiveness of the presentation. Using actual wooden crosses for day 4 is important to the dramatic impact, for
example. Scenery and many of the props can be made from painted heavy cardboard. Sometimes an appliance store
can provide refrigerator and freezer boxes which are ideal for this. Alternatively you can make scenery flats from
wooden or PVC frames with painted paper or canvas over them. The frames can be disassembled for transport and
then reassembled on site. The paper or canvas can be rolled up for transport and placed on the frames for each day.
With only a small number of flats, you can cover a lot of scenes. We try to reuse scenery year after year so that there
is less to create new each year.
Story – If you prefer to use a story telling format to communicate the scripture passage, you can use the Libro de
Maestro to tell the story. It is designed for just that and has excellent color picture pages coordinated with the study.
In this case, you will need to order enough copies of the Libro de Maestro so that the teacher or translator for each
class can have one. Teachers or translators will definitely need to practice telling the story beforehand. For the
storytelling format, you should break into classes that are in separate rooms or areas. It is also very important for the
storyteller to have an excellent grasp of Spanish so that the story can be told in a dramatic fashion rather than just
read. The Libro de Maestro also has instructions for tailoring the story according to the age level of the students.
If you are a small team and have few fluent Spanish speakers, you could use the storytelling format with the whole
group together. This would allow you to tell the daily scripture story with only a single person (maybe your
translator) who is fluent in Spanish.

Aim: That each student would recognize Christ as the king of his live and keep his or her life clean.

En Jerusalén, todo el mundo estaba en movimiento.
Todos estaban alegres por la fiesta venienda. Todos
los que podían iban a Jerusalén para ese día. Entre los
viajeros iban Cristo y sus discípulos. Muchos habían
visto a Jesús en camino, y las noticias corrieron.
Cuando ya llegaban cerca de Jerusalén, podían ver el
monte de Olivos, y al pie del monte estaba el pueblo
de Betania donde vivían sus amigos Lázaro, María y
Marta. Muchos viajeros siguieron hasta Jerusalén y
dieron las nuevas que Jesús había llegado a Betania.
Cuando los de Jerusalén supieron que Jesús estaba
tan cerca muchos salieron a verlo.

Narrator: [Use the map to show the places] In
Jerusalem, the whole world was in motion. Everyone
was happy because of the coming festival. Everyone
who could had come to Jerusalem for that day.
Among the travelers were Christ and his disciples.
Many had seen Jesus on the way and the news
spread. When they arrived near Jerusalem, they could
see the Mount of Olives and, at the foot of the mount,
the town of Bethany where their friends Lazarus,
Mary, and Martha lived. Many travelers continued on
to Jerusalem and gave the news that Jesus had arrived
in Bethany. When those in Jerusalem knew that Jesus
was so close many came out to see him.

Lázaro, el que Jesús levantó de los muertos! Unos
dicen que él es el Mesías así lo dijeron los profetas.

Narrador: Continuo: “¡Y otros dicen que él es Hijo
de Dios! ¿Quién puede levantar alguien de los

Narrador: Susurró: “Oí decir que aún algunos de los

porque los que mandaban tienen celos de Jesús, y
quieren matarlo.”
Más temprano en ese día, Jesús mandó a Pedro y a
Juan a una aldea cercana para buscar un pollino de
asna. Jesús les dijo que debían desatarlo y llevárselo.
Los discípulos pusieron sus vestidos sobre él para
que Jesús se sentara encima. Así se cumplieron las
palabras que el profeta Zacarías habló 500 años antes
en Zacarías 9:9, “Alégrate mucho...hija de Jerusalén;
he aquí tu rey vendrá a ti, justo y salvador, humilde, y
cabalgando sobre un asno, sobre un pollino, hijo de
asna.”
[Jesús (montado en el pollino) y los discípulos entran

Narrador: Cuando Jesús pasó la cumbre del monte

Narrator: He continued: “And I want to see Lazarus
too, the one Jesus raised from the dead. Some say he
is the Messiah spoken of by the prophets. The one
who will free the people and sit on the throne of
David, King of Israel.”
Man 1: Yes!
[1st Man acts like he’s talking to 2nd Man.]
Narrator: He continued: “And others say that he is
the Son of God! Who else can raise someone from
the dead but God?
[Two Pharisees enter. 1st Man points to Pharisees
and acts like he’s whispering in 2nd Man’s ear.]
Narrator: He whispered: “I’ve heard it said that even
some of the leaders believe but they are afraid to say
so because those in charge are jealous of Jesus and
want to kill Him.”
Earlier that day Jesus sent Peter and John to a nearby
village to look for a foal of an ass. Jesus told them
they should untie it and take it. The disciples put their
garments over it so that Jesus could sit on top of
them. So the words were fulfilled that the prophet
Zechariah spoke 500 years earlier in Zechariah 9:9:
“Rejoice greatly daughter of Jerusalem. Here your
king has come to you righteous and having salvation,
humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of
a donkey.”
[Jesus (mounted on the donkey) and disciples enter
and stand at the edge of the stage.]
Narrator: When Jesus passed the summit of the
Mount of Olives, saw the city of Jerusalem. The
disciples were very happy.
[Jesus acts sad and weeps.]
Narrator: But Christ, upon seeing Jerusalem, wept
over her, thinking of all that would happen. He knew
that this happiness wouldn’t last long and these same
people were going to reject Him and that He would
die for them. He knew that Jerusalem would be
punished terribly later.
[Jesus stops weeping. Jesus and disciples cross the
stage slowly.]
Narrator. His disciples and friends were happy and
excited today because Jesus was going to enter into
Jerusalem mounted as had the kings before. The Jews
didn’t have their own king because the Romans ruled
them. They suffered injustices and hated the foreign
soldiers and officials. They wanted to have their own
king.
[Crowd throws palms and garments and waves
palms. Jesus & disciples walk through the crowd]

Narrador: Quisieron un rey que era bondadoso y que

who could do miracles as Jesus did when he
multiplied the bread.

[Crowd acts like they are rejoicing.]
Narrator: They also shouted: “Blessed is He who
comes in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel!”
They were reciting a part of Psalm 118 and saying
the Jesus was the Messiah the Jews had been waiting
for.
Some of the Pharisees and priests were there seeing
everything. They saw Jesus treated as king and they
were filled with jealousy and hatred.
Pharisee 1: [to Jesus] Teacher, rebuke your
disciples.
Jesus: If they were quiet, the stones would cry out.
[Everyone exits]
Narrator: Jesus said this because He knew that this
scene, that many call “The Triumphal Entry”, God
ordained before the creation of the world.
Act 2
[At the temple]
[Moneychanger and dove seller enter and go to table
on far side of stage Crowd, children, and Pharisees
enter and stand in center. Blind man and lame man
enter and sit on near side of stage.]
Narrator: When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the city
was agitated.
[Jesus and disciples enter]
Narrator: Continuing on to the temple, Jesus came
upon the blind and lame where they sat to beg.
Blind Man: [to Lame] What’s happening?
Lame Man: It is Jesus the prophet.
[Jesus heals blind man and lame man. Blind man and
Lame man jump up, wave arms, and act like they are
shouting. Crowd and children act amazed.]
Narrator: They shouted: “Blessed be the reign of our
father David that has come.” And: “Hosanna to the
Son of David!” Even the children shouted!
Children: Hosanna to the Son of David!
Narrator: [to class] Let’s say “Hosanna!” together.
All: Hosanna!
Narrator: But when the chief priests and scribes saw
these miracles and heard that even the children
cheered, they were outraged.
Pharisee 1: Do you hear what they are saying?
Jesus: Yes.
Narrator: He continued: “It is written ‘from the
mouths of babes you have ordained praise.’”

Narrador: E1 templo era un edificio hermoso, hecho
para adorar a Dios, y para hacer los sacrificios, y para
orar. Pero allá Jesús encontró a la gente comerciando.
Vio que vendían las palomas del sacrificio, y vio a
los cambiadores aprovechando de ganar dinero de los
que venían para adorar a Dios. Cristo quería que la
casa de su Padre fuera limpia y sagrada.

Narrador: Susurró: “Si decimos que era del cielo,
Jesús dirá, ‘¿Por qué no le creyeron?’”

Narrador: El otro susurró: “Y si decimos que era de
los hombres, temo al pueblo que tienen a Juan por
profeta. No podemos contestar.”
Fariseo 1: [a Jesús] No sabemos.

Narrador: Jesús replicó: “Ni yo les digo con qué
autoridad hago esto.”
[Fariseos salen. Todos acudan a Jesús. Jesús hace
gestos y actúa como les enseñando.]
Narrador: Cristo enseñaba en el templo cada día, y
el pueblo estaba suspenso oyéndole. Pero a los
príncipes de los sacerdotes y a los jefes de los judíos
no les gustó que Jesús mostrara tal autoridad. Querían
matarlo, pero no atrevieron porque tuvieron miedo
del pueblo.

Jesús dijera algo que ellos pudieran usar para

Narrador: Los judíos tenían centenares de años
esperando a su Mesías, que quiere decir el Ungido en
hebreo, el que Dios escogió para una obra especial.
Jesús era el Mesías, el Ungido. En el griego, la
lengua del Nuevo Testamento “Ungido” es “Cristo”.
Por eso llamamos a Jesús “el Cristo”. Pero cuando É1
vino a su pueblo, los jefes religiosos no lo aceptaron.
Narrator: The temple was a beautiful building made
for worshiping God and for sacrifice and prayer. But
there Jesus found the people doing trade. He saw that
they were selling sacrificial doves and he saw money
changers taking advantage for monetary gain of those
who came to worship God. Christ wanted the house
of His Father to be clean and sacred.
[Jesus overturns the tables of Moneychanger and
Dove seller and drives them out of the temple.]
Pharisee 1: Why are you doing this?
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to the Pharisees.]
Narrator: Jesus replied: “Is it not written that my
house, a house of prayer shall be called? But you
have made it a den of thieves.”
Pharisee 1: Look here!
[Pharisee 1 acts like he’s talking to Jesus.]
Narrator: He continued: “By what authority do you
do this? And who gave you that authority?
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to the Pharisees.]
Narrator: Jesus replied: “Tell me, John’s baptism,
where was it from? From heaven or from men?”
[Pharisee 1 whispers to Pharisee 2.]
Narrator: He whispered: “If we say that is was from
heaven, Jesus will say, ‘Why didn’t you believe
him?’”
[Pharisee 2 whispers to Pharisee 1.]
Narrator: He whispered back: “And if we say from
man, I am afraid of the people who take John for a
prophet. We cannot answer.”
Pharisee 1: [to Jesus] We don’t know.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to the Pharisees.]
Narrator: Jesus replied: “Nor will I tell you by what
authority I do this.”
[Pharisees exit. Everyone gathers to Jesus. Jesus
gestures and acts as if teaching them.]
Narrator: Christ was teaching in the temple every
day and the people were hanging on his words. But
the chief priests and the leaders of the Jews were
displeased that Jesus showed such authority. They
wanted to kill Him but didn’t dare because they were
afraid of the people.
Every day they were trying to set traps for Him with
difficult questions but they couldn’t. They wanted the
Lord Jesus to say something that they could use to
denounce Him to the Roman governor, or so that the
people would stop following Him.
[Everyone exits.]
Narrator: The Jews had hundreds of years of waiting
for their Messiah, which means Anointed in Hebrew,
the one that God choose for a special work. Jesus was
the Messiah, the Anointed. In Greek, the language of
the New Testament, “Anointed” is “Christ”. This is
why we call Jesus “the Christ”. But when He came to
His people, the religious leaders didn’t accept him.

Preguntas Para Aplicación
¿Porque entró Cristo a Jerusalén montado en un
pollino? ¿Qué significó? [Los reyes entraron así,
Zacarías 9:9 profetizó lo.] Muestra que Jesús fue
enviado por Dios desde antes de los siglos.
Cuando Jesús vio Jerusalén después que pasó la

rechazado. Ustedes ya saben que los enemigos le
quitaron la vida al que tanto bien les había hecho.
Para pagar nuestras culpas, Cristo sufrió todo eso.
¿Serás tú como los que rechazaron a Cristo? No seas
tú como los de Jerusalén. No dejes que te venga
encima un castigo tan grande. Acepta hoy a Cristo
como tu Salvador. La oportunidad de hoy no quedará
para siempre.
Para los creyentes: Siendo que ya hemos aceptado a
Cristo como Salvador, él es nuestro Señor o Rey, y
tiene derecho de mandar en nuestra vida. Para
agradarle y ser buen testimonio al mundo, debemos
obedecerle en todo y mantener limpias nuestras vidas
que son templos del Espíritu Santo.
Application Questions
Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem mounted on a
donkey? What did it mean? [Kings entered that way,
Zechariah 9:9 prophesied it.] It shows that Jesus was
sent by God since before the ages.
When Jesus saw Jerusalem when he rode over the top
of the Mt. of Olives, he was very sad. Why? [Knew
that the people would reject Him and the Jerusalem
would be punished terribly.] The Lord Jesus wants
everyone to accept Him. He came to be our Savior.
What did the crowd do when they saw Jesus? [They
spread out branches and clothing. They cried
“Hosanna” and called him “Son of David”.] What
did they want? [A king who would throw out the
Romans and give them lots of bread.] The people did
not understand God's plan. They preferred their own
plan. We should not be like that.
What did Jesus see in the temple which made Him
angry? [Moneychangers and dove sellers.] Why?
[Because they had turned the house of God into a den
of thieves.]
How did the Jewish leaders feel when the crowd
followed Jesus? [They were angry and jealous]
Why? [It threatened their authority.] What did they
want to do to him? [Kill him.] They knew the
scriptures but they rejected their Messiah because of
jealousy and greed.
For the unbelievers: Christ, the Son of God,
presented himself to his people as king but, in the
end, he was rejected. You already know that his
enemies took his life of the one who had done so
many good things for them. Christ suffered all that to
pay for our sins. Will you be like those who rejected
Christ? Do not be like the people of Jerusalem. Do
not let a tremendous punishment overtake you.
Accept Christ as your Savior today. Today's
opportunity will not last forever.
For the believers: Since we have already accepted
Christ as Savior, he is our Lord or King, and has the
right to rule in our life. To please Him and be a good
witness to the world, we must obey Him in
everything and keep our lives, which are temples of
the Holy Spirit, clean.

Crafts and Object Lessons
(1) (a) Make a copy of the donkey on the next page (this is the same as the cut out craft for all three levels of
the student books.). Show it to the students and say that the young donkey (pollino), or the donkey colt
(pollino), was a young creature but the Lord needed him. Likewise He can use you. This donkey had the
privilege of carrying Christ Himself and we have the privilege of bringing the good news about Christ to
others. The donkey did what the Lord Jesus desired, not what he himself wanted. We humans ought not to
allow a donkey to serve our Lord better than we do. We ought to allow the Lord to guide us where He
wants us to go.
(b) Give each student a tract to share explaining that this is a way to carry Christ to others but that we also
need to tell people about Jesus. (Note: In Mexico, it is not legal for a foreigner to hand out tracts so you
should have one of your Mexican partners do the actual distribution.)
(2) Color today’s emblem (heart) and the Bible text sheet (if used).
(3) Hand out the student books. Make sure to get each student’s name on the back and to mark today’s
attendance.
(4) Color the lesson title page drawing on page 1 of the student book.

Narrator: You remember that yesterday the people
came from far off to Jerusalem for the great feast and
the Lord Jesus entered mounted on a donkey. A great
many people shouted “Blessed is the king who comes
in the name of the Lord”. Jesus continued on to the
temple to cleanse it. Remember what the priest and
Pharisees thought? [Let them respond.] Yes, they
didn’t like it. They were afraid and jealous.

Narrador: Ahora, ya había llegado el mismo día de
la preparación para la fiesta de la pascua. La pascua
celebra la liberación de Israel de la esclavitud en
Egipto. Faraón, el rey, no quería librar a sus esclavos;
pero Dios mandó diez plagas. Para la última, Dios
mandó al ángel de la muerte a matar al hijo mayor de
cada hogar. Dios mandó que cada familia de los
judíos matara un corderito y echara la sangre en la
puerta para que el ángel de la muerte pasaría de la
casa. Para la fiesta de la Pascua, cada familia mataba
un cordero y comía la carne asada en memoria del
cordero que murió en lugar del hijo mayor.
Jesús había venido a Jerusalén para celebrar esa
fiesta. La comida fue listo en un aposento alto.

Narrator: Now the very day of the preparation for
the feast of the Passover had arrived. The Passover
celebrates the liberation of Israel from slavery in
Egypt. Pharaoh, the king, didn’t want to free his
slaves but God sent ten plagues. For the last one, God
sent the angel of death to kill the oldest son of each
household. God told each Jewish family to kill a
lamb and sprinkle its blood on the doorway so that
the angel of death would pass over the house. For the
Passover feast, each family killed a lamb and ate the
grilled meat in memory of the lamb that died in place
of the oldest son.
Jesus had come to Jerusalem to celebrate this feast.
The meal was ready in an upper room.
[Servant enters and puts the lamb, the bread, and the
wine on the table. Servant exits.]
Narrator: It was going to be the last feast with His
disciples because He knew that he was going to die.
He, himself, was going to be the Passover lamb, The
Lamb of God that dies to save others as John the
Baptist had said “Here is the Lamb of God that takes
away the sin of the world.
[Jesus and the disciples enter and sit]
Jesus: Friends.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Disciples.]
Narrator: He continued: “I have earnestly desired to
eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to
you, I shall never again eat it until it has its complete
fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
But that night Jesus also knew that one of the twelve,
Judas Iscariot, had gone to the chief priests and
agreed to betray him.
Jesus: Friends.
Narrator: He said: “The hand of him who is going to
betray me is with mine on the table.”
John: Is it me, Lord?
All: Is it me?
John: [leaning against Jesus] Lord, who is it?
[Jesus acts like he is whispering to John.]
Narrator: He replied: “It is the one to whom I give
this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.”
[Jesus dips the piece of bread and gives it to Judas]
Narrator: And Satan entered into Judas’ heart.
[Judas leaves]
[Jesus takes the bread]
Jesus: Thanks to God for this bread.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Disciples.]
Narrator: He said: “This is my body given for you;
do this in remembrance of me.”
[Jesus breaks the bread and distributes it to
Disciples. Everyone eats it.]

world celebrate the Holy Supper to remember the
Lord Jesus who gave His life as the Lamb. The bread
and the wine represent the body and blood of Christ.
Jesus: My beloved children.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Disciples.]
Narrator: The Lord Jesus spoke at length because
He knew that this same night Judas was going to
betray Him. He gave them many promises and
precious teachings about heaven. He promised to be
with them even though they wouldn’t see him and
that the Holy Spirit would be with each one of them.
Still the disciples didn’t understand that He was
going to be killed and return to life.
[Jesus acts like he’s praying.]
Narrator: Then Jesus prayed. He prayed for them
and for all who believe in him and this includes us,
you and me.
Jesus: The time has come.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Disciples.]
Narrator: He continued: “I need to return to the
Garden of Gethsemane and pray to my Heavenly
Father about the cup He has given me to drink.”
[Everyone exits]
Act 2
[The Garden of Gethsemane]
Narrator: [Use the map to show the places] It was
already very late and Jesus took them with Him
through the dark and narrow streets of Jerusalem.
They went out a big gate in the wall and crossed the
brook of Kidron on the way to the Mount of Olives.
After entering the garden, Jesus left the disciples and,
taking only Peter, John, and Andrew, went further.
[Jesus, John, Peter, and Andrew enter and stop near
the entrance. Jesus acts like he’s talking to them.]
Narrator: He told them: “My soul is sad unto death.
Stay here and keep watch with me.”
[Jesus walks to the far side of the stage and kneels.
Disciples sit and fall asleep.]
Narrator: He knew that He had come into the world
to suffer and die for sin but when His time was near,
he felt like he was couldn’t bear this burden of sin.
[Jesus raises his hands to heaven.]
Jesus: My Father.
[Jesus acts like he’s praying.]
Narrator: He prayed: “If it is possible, do not make
me drink this bitter drink. Yet not as I will, but as you
will.

awake with me even for one hour? Be alert and pray
so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is
willing, but the body is weak.”
[Jesus returns to his place of prayer and kneels.]
Jesus: My Father
[Jesus acts like he’s praying.]
Narrator: He prayed: “If it is not possible to avoid
drinking this bitter cup, may your will be done.
[Jesus returns to the disciples and sees them
sleeping]
Jesus: Keep sleeping. Rest.
[Jesus returns to His place of prayer and kneels]
Jesus: My Father.
[Jesus acts like he’s praying.]
Narrator: He prayed: “If it is not possible to avoid
drinking this bitter cup, may your will be done.
[Voices from off stage: “Where is he?” “This way.”
Jesus returns to the disciples and shakes them.
Disciples wake up and jump to their feet.]
Jesus: Look!

Narrator: He told them: “The hour is near and the
Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of
sinners. Let’s go! There comes the one who betrays
me!”

Narrator: Tomorrow we’ll hear how someone

Application Questions What celebration did Christ and the disciples
celebrate in the upper room? [Passover.] Christ
definitely knew that he would be the sacrificial lamb
to save us. What did Christ say about the bread and
wine? [They are his body and his blood.] Christ
established the holy supper and said that we should
remember his sacrifice when we eat and drink it.
Did the disciples understand what Christ said
concerning His death and His return and the promise
of the Holy Spirit? [No] Why not? He said it very
clearly? [This is a difficult question – discussion is
needed, probably they will say “I don’t know” then
say:] Is it because they were dumb? [No] It is
because they thought the Christ would be king
immediately and they didn’t want to hear anything
else. They didn’t understand that they needed
salvation through the blood of Jesus. They didn’t
want to believe that He, and they, were going to
suffer. They wanted an easy and calm life. We are the
same.
Do you think that Christ was ready for the sufferings
and the terrible tests? [Yes] Why? [Because He had
been praying and getting strength from the
communion that He had with His Father. And his
Father sent an angel to strengthen him.] We ought to
give thanks to God that Christ was ready to suffer so
for us.
Now, what do you think? Do you think that the
disciples in the garden were ready for the tests that
were to come? [No.] Why not? [They had been
sleeping instead of praying. They couldn’t be ready
for the temptations that were coming.] That night,
Jesus promised his followers trouble in this world.
We need to be prepared for that and remember he has
overcome the world.
For the believers: What can we do to face every
temptation and remain faithful to the Lord in
everything? By preparing ourselves every day in
prayer, asking for the help of our Heavenly Father
and remembering that which Christ suffered for us.
For the unbelievers: How grateful we should be for
what Christ suffered for us to give us salvation. Have
you accepted what Christ did for you? If you don’t
accept Christ, you are despising Him and, for you, it
was in vain that Christ suffered as the Lamb of God.
He rejoices for each one that believes in Him and is
saved. Accept Him today as your Savior.

Crafts and Object Lessons
(1) For the object lesson, make a paper doll using the patterns on the next page. (Note: this is a duplicate of the
cut out craft for the student books.) Connect the three parts are with winged paper fasteners (or with
twine knotted on each side). Put the neck behind the shoulder and the upper leg behind the lower one. Glue
the figure to a different colored piece of cardstock by the body (so that the head and lower leg can pivot).
Show the paper doll to the children in the standing position and then in the kneeling position. Discuss how
important prayer was in Jesus' life. Then talk about how much more we, as ordinary people, need to pray,
when to pray, where to pray, and how to pray.
(2) Color today’s emblem (praying boy) and the Bible text sheet (if used).
(3) Hand out the student books according to the level of the class. Make sure to get each student’s name on the

A Sad Morning (Una Mañana Triste)

Aim: That the student see that he or she can’t remain neutral about Christ. That he or she would decide to accept
Him as Savior and Lord.
Propósito: Que el alumno vea que no puede ser neutral acerca de Cristo. Que haga la decisión de aceptarlo como
Salvador y Señor.
Emphasis for Lower Level: We should love the Lord Jesus for his love demonstrated by suffering such humiliation
for us.
Emphasis for Middle Level: To not allow yourself to behave like the people who where first shouting “Hosanna”
and afterwards shouted “Crucify him”. Remain faithful to the Lord in spite of what the rest say, even though they
may be the majority.
Emphasis for Upper Level: Have for your life’s aim to always be faithful to the Lord, avoiding the errors of Judas,
Peter, the religious leaders, Pilate, the soldiers, and the people.

his disciples yesterday, right? [Let them respond.]
Yes, it was in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Narrador: Esa noche, aunque Cristo sabía todo lo
que le venía encima, le dijo a su Padre que no quería
su propia voluntad, sino la del Padre. ¿Qué hacían los
discípulos mientras É1 oraba? [Deja que responden.]
Sí, ¡dormían! No estaban listos para las pruebas que
venían.
[Jesús y sus discípulos entran.]
Narrador: ¿Recuerdan quienes más fueron al jardín
esa noche? [Deja que responden.] Sí, los oficiales de
los judíos con muchos soldados. Creían que podrían
prender a Jesús de sorpresa. ¿Quién les guiaba? [Deja
que responden.] Sí, Judas uno sus discípulos. ¡Vino a
traicionarlo!
[Judas, Malco, y Soldados entran]
Jesús: ¿A quién buscan?
Malco: A Jesús de Nazaret.
Jesús: Yo soy.
[Judas, Malco y soldados se caen, menos.]
Narrador: Todos cayeron hacia abajo, como si aquel
nombre, uno de los nombres de Dios, les hubiera
dado un golpe.
[Todos se levantan despacio y se parecen
desorientados. Jesús ayuda a Malco a levantarse]
Judas se acerca.]
Judas: Maestro, Maestro.
[Judas besa a Jesús.]
Jesús: Judas.
[Jesús hace como hablando a Judas.]
Narrador: Preguntó “¿Con un beso entregas al Hijo
del hombre?”
[Soldados agarran a Jesús. Pedro saca la espada y
cortó la oreja derecha de Malco. Soldados sueltan a
Jesús y sacan sus espadas. Discípulos menos Pedro y
Juan salen corriendo.]
Jesús: ¡Pedro!
[Jesús toca la oreja de Malco, y la sana. Jesús hace
como hablando a Pedro.]
Narrador: Le dijo: “¡Regresa tu espada a su lugar!
¿Piensas tú que no puedo orar a mi Padre y Él me
daría más de doce legiones de ángeles? ¿Cómo, pues,
se cumplirían las Escrituras? La prueba que el Padre
me ha dado, ¿no la tengo que sufrir?”
[Soldados agarran a Jesús y todos salen con Pedro y
Juan siguiendo a distancia.]
2º Acto
[La Casa de Caifás]
Narrador: Volvieron a Jerusalén con Jesús preso y
atado. Pedro y Juan los siguieron de lejos. Lo
llevaron primero a la casa de Anás, el suegro del
sumo sacerdote. Anás decidió llevar a Jesús al
consejo para que lo juzguen.
[Caifás y el consejo entran.]
Narrador: Llevaron al Señor atado a la casa de
Caifás, el sumo sacerdote, donde los escribas y los
ancianos estaban reunidos esperándolo.
Narrator: That night, although Christ knew
everything that was coming over Him, He told His
Father that He didn’t want His will, only his Father’s.
What did the disciples do while He prayed? [Let them
respond.] Yes, they were sleeping. They were not
ready for the tests that were coming.
[Jesus and disciples enter.]
Narrator: Do you remember who else came to the
garden that night? [Let them respond.] Yes, the
officials of the Jews with many soldiers. They
thought to be able to arrest Jesus by surprise. Who
was guiding them? [Let them respond.] Yes, Judas,
one of His disciples. He came to betray him!
[Judas, Malchus, and Soldiers enter]
Jesus: Whom do you seek?
Malchus: Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus: I am.
[Judas, Malchus, and soldiers fall down.]
Narrator: They all feel down as if that name, one of
the names of God, had punched them.
[They get up slowly and seem disoriented. Jesus
helps Malchus to get up.]
[Judas draws near.]
Judas: Teacher, teacher.
[Judas kisses Jesus.]
Jesus: Judas.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Judas.]
Narrator: He asked: “Do you betray the Son of Man
with a kiss?”
[Soldiers grab Jesus. Peter draws sword and cuts off
the right ear of Malchus. Soldiers release Jesus and
draw their swords. Disciples except for Peter and
John exit running.]
Jesus: Peter!
[Jesus touches Malchus ear and heals it. Jesus acts
like he’s talking to Peter.]
Jesus: Return your sword to its place. Do you think
that I cannot pray to my Father and He would send
more than twelve legions of angels? How, then, could
the scripture be fulfilled? The test that my Father has
given me, do I not have to suffer it?
[Soldiers grab Jesus and everyone exits with Peter
and following at a distance.]
Act 2
[Caiaphas’s House]
Narrator: They returned to Jerusalem with Jesus
arrested and bound. Peter and John followed them at
a distance. They took Him first to the house of
Annas, the father-in-law of the high priest. Annas
decided to take Jesus to the counsel for judgment.
[Caiaphas and counsel enters]
Narrator: They took the Lord bound to the house of
Caiaphas, the chief priest, where the scribes and
elders were together waiting.

[Malco y Soldados entran llevando a Jesús. A un
lado, Juan y Pedro y siervo y sierva entran]
[Caifás hace como hablando a Jesús.]
Narrador: Lo insistió: “Te ordeno en el nombre del
Dios viviente que nos digas si eres el Cristo, el Hijo
de Dios.”
Jesús: Tú lo has dicho.
[Jesús hace como hablando a todos.]
Narrador: Continuó: “Pero yo les digo a todos: De
ahora en adelante verán ustedes al Hijo del hombre
sentado a la derecha del Todopoderoso, y
descendiendo de las nubes en el cielo.”
Caifás: [rasgándose la ropa] ¡Ha blasfemado!
Todo el consejo: ¡Merece la muerte!
[Alguien le escupe en el rostro y otro le da
puñetazos. Un soldado cubre la cabeza de Jesús y le
dan golpes]
[Soldado hace como gritando a Jesús.]
Narrador: Uno de ellos dijo: “Profetízanos tú,
Cristo, ¿Quién es el que te ha pegado?”
Entonces algo se ocurrió entre los espectadores.
Sierva: [apuntando a Pedro] Hombre.
Narrador: Continuó: “Tú también estabas con Jesús
de Galilea.”
Pedro: No sé de qué estás hablando.
Sierva: ¡Oye!
[Sierva hace como hablando al siervo.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Éste estaba con Jesús de Nazaret.”
[Pedro hace como hablando a los siervos.]
Narrador: Respondió: “¡A ese hombre ni lo
conozco!”
[Siervo hace como hablando a Pedro.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Seguro que eres uno de ellos; se te
nota por tu acento.”
Pedro: [gritando] ¡Maleantes!
[Pedro agita los brazos y hace como gritando.]
Narrador: Gritó “¡A ese hombre ni lo conozco!”
[Gallo canta. Soldado descubre la cabeza de Jesús.
Jesús voltea y mira a Pedro]
Narrador: En ese mismo momento Pedro se acordó
de las palabras de Cristo: que iba a negarlo tres veces
antes que el gallo cantara. ¡Qué vergüenza! Pobre
Pedro, que antes se creía tan fuerte.
[Pedro sale llorando]
Caifás: [a Jesús] ¿Eres tú el Cristo?
[Jesús hace como hablando a Caifás.]
Narrador: Respondió: “Si yo dijere, no creerán y
también si les preguntare, no me responderán ni me
soltarán. Pero desde ahora el Hijo del Hombre se
sentará a la mano derecha del Dios Poderoso.”
Caifás: ¿Entonces tú eres el Hijo de Dios?
Jesús: Ustedes dicen que yo soy.
[Caifás hace como hablando a Jesús.]
[Malchus and Soldiers bring Jesus in. To one side
John and Peter and male and female servants enter]
[Caiaphas acts like he’s talking to Jesus.]
Narrator: He demanded: “I order you in the name of
the Living God to tell us if you are the Christ, the Son
of God.”
Jesus: You said it.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to everyone.]
Narrator: He continued: “But I say to you all: from
now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the
right hand of the Almighty and descending from the
clouds of heaven.”
Caiaphas: [tearing his clothes] He has blasphemed!
The whole counsel: He is worthy of death
[Someone spits in His face and another punches Him.
A soldier covers Jesus’ head and they hit him.]
[Soldier acts like he’s yelling at Jesus.]
Narrator: One of them said: “Prophesy to us, Christ.
Who is the one who has hit you?”
Then something happened among the spectators.
Female Servant: [pointing at Peter] Man.
Narrator: She continued: “You too were with Jesus
of Galilee.”
Peter: I don’t know what you are talking about.
Female Servant: Look hear!
[Female servant acts like she’s talking to male
servant.
Narrator: She said: “This one was with Jesus of
Nazareth.”
[Peter acts like he’s talking to the servants.]
Narrator: He answered: “I know nothing of that
man!”
[Male servant acts like he’s talking to Peter.]
Narrator: He said: “Surely you were one of them, I
can tell by your accent.”
Peter: [shouting] Cursed ones!
[Peter waves his arms and acts like he’s shouting.]
Narrator: He shouted: “I don’t even know the man!”
[Rooster crows. Soldier uncovers Jesus’ head. Jesus
turns around and looks at Peter]
Narrator: In that same moment Peter remembered
the Christ’s words: that he would deny Him three
times before the rooster crows. What shame! Poor
Peter who early thought himself so strong.
[Peter exits crying]
Caiaphas: [to Jesus] Are you the Christ?
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Caiaphas.]
Narrator: Jesus answered: “If I tell you, you will not
believe and also if I ask you a question you will not
answer me or untie me. But from now on the Son of
Man will be seated at the right hand of the Almighty
God.”
Caiaphas: Then you are the Son of God?
Jesus: You have said that I am.
[Caiaphas acts like he’s talking to Jesus.]

Narrador: Caifás dijo: “Ya lo había oído de su boca.
[Caifás hace como hablando a todos.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Levantémonos y llevamos a este
Jesús a Pilato.”
[Todos salen]
3º Acto
[El Palacio de Pilato]
[Caifás entra con Jesús atado atrás con Soldados lo
vigilando.]
[Pilato entra y se sienta en su trono. Pilato hace
como hablando a Caifás.]
Narrador: Pilato preguntó ¿De qué delito acusan a
este hombre?
[Caifás hace como hablando a Pilato.]
Narrador: Replicó: “Si no fuera un malhechor no te
lo habríamos entregado.”
[Pilato hace como hablando a Caifás.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Pues llévenselo ustedes y
júzguenlo según su propia ley.”
[Caifás hace como hablando a Pilato.]
Narrador: Replicó: “Nosotros no tenemos ninguna
autoridad para ejecutar a nadie.”
[Pilato se para y toma Jesús y lo lleva a un lado]
Pilato: [a Jesús] ¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos?
[Jesús hace como halando a Pilato.]
Narrador: Jesús replicó: “¿Eso lo dices tú o es que
otros te han hablado de mí?”
Pilato: ¿Acaso soy judío?
[Pilato hace como hablando a Jesús.]
Narrador: Continuó: “Han sido los jefes de los
sacerdotes los que te entregaron a mí. ¿Qué has
hecho?”
Jesús: Mi reino no es de este mundo.
[Jesús hace como halando a Pilato.]
Narrador: Continuó: “Si lo fuera, mis propios
guardias pelearían para impedir que los judíos me
arrestaran. Pero mi reino no es de este mundo.”
Pilato: ¡Así que eres rey!
Jesús: Tú dices que yo soy rey.
[Jesús hace como halando a Pilato.]
Narrador: Continuó: “Yo para esto nací, y para esto
vine al mundo: para dar testimonio de la verdad.
Todo el que está de la verdad escucha mi voz.”
Pilato: ¿Qué es la verdad?
[Pilato se sienta en su trono.]
[Pilato hace como hablando a Caifás.]
Narrador: Dijo a sumo sacerdote: “Yo no encuentro
que éste sea culpable de nada.”
[Caifás hace como hablando a Pilato.]
Narrador: Replicó: “Alborota al pueblo, enseñando
desde Galilea hasta aquí.”
Pilato: ¿De Galilea? ¿Es un galileo?
Caifás: Sí.
[Pilato hace como hablando a Caifás.]
Narrator: Caiaphas said: “We have now heard it
from your mouth.”
[Caiaphas acts like he’s talking to everyone.]
Narrator: He said: “Let us rise and take this Jesus to
Pilate.”
[Everyone exits]
Act 3
[Pilate’s Palace]
[Caiaphas enters followed by Jesus tied up with
Soldiers guarding him.]
[Pilate enters and sits on his throne. Pilate acts as if
he’s talking to Caiaphas.]
Narrator: Pilate asked “Of what crime do you
accuse this man?”
[Caiaphas acts like he’s talking to Pilate.]
Narrator: He answered: “If he were not an evildoer
we would not have delivered him to you.”
[Pilate acts as if he’s talking to Caiaphas.]
Narrator: He said: “Then you take him and judge
him according to your own law.”
[Caiaphas acts like he’s talking to Pilate.]
Narrator: He answered: “We have no authority to
execute anyone.”
[Pilate stands and takes Jesus aside.]
Pilate: [to Jesus] Are you the king of the Jews?
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Pilate.]
Narrator: Jesus answered: “Do you say this or is that
what others have spoken of me?”
Pilate: Am I Jew?
[Pilate acts like he’s talking to Jesus.]
Narrator: He continued: “It was the leaders of the
priest that turned you over to me. What have you
done?”
Jesus: My kingdom is not of this world.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Pilate.]
Narrator: He continued: “If it were, my own men
would have fought to stop the Jews from arresting
me. But my kingdom is not of this world.”
Pilate: Then you are a king!
Jesus: You say that I am a king.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Pilate.]
Narrator: He continued: “For this I was born and for
this I came to the world, to give testimony to the
truth. All who are of the truth listen to my voice.
Pilate: What is truth?
[Pilate sits down on throne.]
[Pilate acts like he’s talking to Caiaphas.]
Narrator: He said to the High Priest: “I do not find
that he is guilty of anything.”
[Caiaphas acts like he’s talking to Pilate.]
Narrator: He answered: “He stirs up the people,
teaching from Galilee to here.”
Pilate: From Galilee? Is he a Galilean?
Caiaphas: Yes.
[Pilate acts like he’s talking to Caiaphas.]

Narrador: Dijo: “Pues es la jurisdicción de Herodes.
¡Llévenlo con Herodes!”
[Caifás y Solados salen con Jesús.]
Narrador: Cuando Pilato supo que era de Galilea,
pensaba salir del apuro. Envió a Jesús al rey Herodes,
que estaba visitando en Jerusalén en esos días.
Herodes esperaba ver un milagro. Le preguntó
mucho, pero Cristo no le contestaba. Pero cuando
Herodes vi que no se defendía ni hacia ningún
milagro, lo menospreciaron y lo vistieron con una
ropa rica para burlarse de É1. Entonces lo
devolvieron a Pilato.
[Caifás y Soldados entran con Jesús vestido en un
manto de púrpura y acercan a Pilato.]
[Gentío entra y para al lado de escenario.]
[Pilato se para y hace como hablando a todos.]
Narrador: Pilato dijo: “Yo no encuentro que éste sea
culpable de nada. ¿Quieren que les suelte al ‘rey de
los judíos’?”
Todos: ¡No!
[Pilato hace como hablando a todos.]
Narrador: Pilato les dijo que golpearía a Jesús y
luego lo soltaría.
Pilato: [a los soldados] ¡Azótenlo!
[Soldados remueven el manto de púrpura y azotan a
Jesús y le ponen una corona de espinas en la cabeza
y lo visten con un manto de púrpura otra vez. Solados
abofetea a Jesús.]
Soldados: [mientras abofeteándolo] ¡Viva el rey de
los judíos!
Pilato: [a los judíos] Aquí lo tienen.
[Pilato empuja Jesús adelante y hace como hablando
a todos.]
Narrador: Pilato les dijo: “Lo he sacado para que
sepan que no lo encuentro culpable de nada. ¡Aquí
tienen al hombre!”
Todos: ¡Crucifícalo! ¡Crucifícalo!
[Caifás se acerca a Pilato, agita los brazos y hace
como hablando a Pilato.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Si dejas en libertad a este hombre,
no eres amigo del césar. Cualquiera que pretende ser
rey se hace su enemigo.”
[Pilato presenta a Jesús]
Pilato: Aquí tienen a su rey.
Todos: ¡Fuera! ¡Fuera! ¡Crucifícalo!
Pilato: ¿Acaso voy a crucificar a su rey?
Todos: No tenemos rey sino césar.
[Siervo entra con un cuenco de agua y una toalla y
acera a Pilato. Pilato se sienta en el trono, se lava y
se seca las manos. Vuelve a gentío y hace como
gritando.]
Narrador: Gritó: “Yo soy inocente de la sangre de
este justo. Que quede en ustedes.”
Todos: ¡Así sea!
[Gentío hace como agitado. Alguien grita:]
Narrator: He said: “Then he is the jurisdiction of
Herod. Take him to Herod.”
[Caiaphas and Soldiers exit with Jesus.]
Narrator: When Pilate knew that he was a Galilean
he thought he could get out of this mess. He sent
Jesus to King Herod, who was visiting Jerusalem in
those days. Herod hoped to see a miracle. He asked
Him many things but Jesus didn’t reply. But when
Herod saw that He didn’t defend Himself nor
perform a miracle, he despised him and dressed him
in rich clothing to mock Him. Then he sent Him back
to Pilate.
[Caiaphas y Soldiers enter with Jesus in purple robe
and approach Pilate.]
[Crowd enters and stands at the side of the stage.]
[Pilate stands and acts like he’s talking to everyone.]
Narrator: Pilate said: “I find that this one is guilty of
nothing. Do you want the release of the ‘King of the
Jews’?”
All: No!
[Pilate acts like he’s talking to everyone.]
Narrator: Pilate told them he would beat Jesus and
then release him.
Pilate [to the soldiers] Beat him!
[Soldiers remove the purple robe, whip Jesus and
then put a crown of thorns on His head and dress him
in the purple robe again. Soldiers slap Jesus.]
Soldiers: [while slapping him] Long live the King of
the Jews!
Pilate: [to the Jews] Here you have him.
[Pilate pushes Jesus forward and acts like he’s
talking to everyone.]
Narrator: Pilate told them: “I have brought him out
to let you know that I find him guilty of nothing.
Here is the man!”
All: Crucify him! Crucify him!
[Caiaphas moves close to Pilate, waves his arms and
acts like he’s talking to him.]
Narrator: He said: “If you give freedom to this man,
you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to
be a king make himself your enemy.”
[Pilate presents Jesus]
Pilate: Here is your king.
All: Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!
Pilate: Shall I crucify your king?
All: We have no king but Caesar.
[Servant enters with basin of water and a towel and
approaches Pilate. Pilate sits on throne, washes and
dries his hands. He turns to the crowd and acts like
he’s shouting.]
Narrator: He shouted: “I am innocent of the blood of
this just man. That will be on you.”
All: So be it!
[Crowd acts as if agitated. Someone shouts:]

Narrador: Así, para asegurar su puesto, Pilato
entregó al Hijo de Dios para ser crucificado.
[Pilato y siervo salen.]
Narrador: Así los jefes religiosos de los judíos por
celos, por no querer que la gente siguiera a Cristo
sino a ellos, pidieron muerte para su Mesías, el que
les vino a salvar. Así que por parte del gobierno y
también por parte de la religión, la humanidad
rechazó al Hijo de Dios.
All: His blood be on us and on our children.
[Soldiers lead Jesus off stage. Caiaphas and crowd
follow.]
Narrator: So, to save his position, Pilate turned over
the Son of God to be crucified.
[Pilate and servant exit.]
Narrator: So the Jewish religious leaders because of
jealousy, because they didn’t want the people
following Christ, demanded death for their Messiah,
the one that had come to save them. Thus through the
government and through religion, mankind rejected
the Son of God.

Preguntas Para Aplicación ¿Qué pasó en el jardín de Getsemaní cuando Jesús
dijo "Yo soy"? [Todos se desmayaron.] ¿Por qué?
[Porque "Yo soy" es el nombre de Dios.] ¿Qué hizo
Jesús cuando Pedro le cortó la oreja al hombre? [Él
lo sanó y le dijo a Pedro que cubrirá la espada.]
Estas cosas muestran que fue Jesús quien estaba en
control en el jardín y no los oficiales y soldados. Se
dejó arrestar para poder salvarnos.
¿Porque estaban los jefes religiosos tan enojados con
Jesús? [Tuvieron celos y miedo que la gente seguía a
Cristo por causa de sus enseñanzas y sus milagros.]
¿Porque no aceptaron la autoridad de Cristo?
[Quisieron gobernar ellos no y no que Él gobierna.]
¿Recuerdas como grito la gente “Hosanna” a Cristo?
Muchas de estas mismas personas gritaron
“Crucifícalo” ahora. ¿Cómo pudieron cambiar tanto
en pocos días? [No creyeron de verdad, solo
siguieron a la demás gente. No pensaban por sí
mismos, solo siguieron a los jefes religiosos.]
¿Y qué paso con Pedro? Según él, estaba listo para
morir por Jesús y termino negándolo. ¿Qué pasa? [No
estaba listo para la prueba porque no oraba al
Señor. Se confundió y fue derrotado cuando llegaron
las pruebas.]
Pilato supo que Cristo era inocente y tuvo el poder de
soltarlo. ¿Porque no lo hizo? [Tuvo miedo que los
judíos pudieran causar que perdiera su puesto]
Para los creyentes: No debemos ocultar lo que
creemos, sino que debemos decirles a todos que
creemos en el Señor. Y debemos quedar muy cerca
de él para no caer como lo hizo Pedro. Debemos
reconocer nuestra debilidad y pedirle fuerzas al Señor
para serle siempre fiel.
Para los no creyentes. Cada uno de nosotros tiene
que decidir lo que va a hacer con Cristo. ¿Qué has
hecho tú? O le reconoces como el Hijo de Dios, tu
Salvador, o le rechazas, como los que lo crucificaron.
Pilato no salió de su responsabilidad por lavarse las
manos. Entregó a Jesús sabiendo que era inocente, y
lleva la responsabilidad de lo que hizo. En el juicio
final, Pilato no será el juez, sino el juzgado. Nosotros
también tenemos la responsabilidad de escoger. Uno
no puede ser neutral. No seas tú cobarde ni egoísta,
como ellos. Acepta hoy al Señor Jesús que sufrió
tanto por ti.
Application Questions What happened in the garden of Gethsemane when
Jesus said “I am”? [Everyone fainted.] Why?
[Because “I am” is the name of God.] What did
Jesus do when Peter cut off the man’s ear? [He
healed him and told Peter to put away the sword.]
These things show that it was Jesus who was in
control in the garden and not the officials and
soldiers. He allowed himself to be arrested so he
could save us.
Why were the religious leaders so angry with Jesus?
[They were jealous and afraid that the people would
follow Christ because of his teaching and miracles.]
Why didn’t they accept Jesus’ authority? [They
wanted to rule not have Him rule]
Remember how the people shouted “Hosanna” to
Jesus? Many of these same people cried “Crucify
Him” today. How could they change so much in a
few days? [They didn’t really believe, they were just
following the crowd. They didn’t think for themselves,
they just followed the religious leaders]
What about Peter? According to him, he was ready to
die for Jesus but ended up denying him. What
happened? [He wasn’t ready for the test because he
didn’t pray to the Lord. He was confused and
defeated because hard times came]
Pilate knew Jesus was innocent and had the power to
release him. Why didn’t he? [He was afraid the Jews
might cause him to lose his job]
For the believers: We must not hide what we
believe, but we must tell everyone that we believe in
the Lord. And we must stay very close to Him so as
not to fall as Peter did. We must recognize our
weakness and ask for strength from the Lord to
always be faithful.
For the unbelievers: Each one of us must decide
what we are going to do with Christ. What have you
done? Either you recognize Him as the Son Of God,
your Savior, or you reject Him like those who
crucified Him. Pilate didn’t get out of his
responsibility by washing his hands. He turned Him
over knowing that He was innocent and so he has
responsibility for what he did. In the final judgment,
Pilate will not be the judge, but the judged. We too
have the responsibility to choose. One cannot remain
neutral. Don’t be a coward or self-seeking like them.
Accept the Lord Jesus who suffered so for you today.

Crafts and Object Lessons (1) For the object lesson make a copy on cardstock of the drawing on the next page and color it. Cut the head
out and then cut along the dashed line between the two ends of the lips. Make a crease along the dotted
lines (being careful not to bend except on the dots) so that the lips are lifted up. Holding the head with one
hand on each ear, push it together and then stretch it slightly to open and close the lips. Practice this
beforehand so that you work out how to make it “speak”, moving the lips a lot or a just little, as you prefer.
(Note: this duplicates the cut out craft in the Alumno 1 book.)
Say something like: In today's lesson the disciples did not speak up for their Lord. Peter denied him. The
priests and the people spoke against Jesus. Pilate handed him over for execution. No one took his side that
day. When many are against the gospel, what will we do? Will we speak up for Christ? Or will we be
cowards? This child is not afraid to speak for Christ. He is courageous like Daniel or like Peter after
Pentecost. What about you? Don't keep your lips closed. Be strong and faithful and you'll win others for the
Lord.

respond] Yes, Peter. But Jesus didn’t want to defend
himself. And the disciples ran away. Later the
enemies took Jesus bound to the Jewish leaders
where they accused and mistreated Him. Then they
took him to the Roman governor. What was his
name? [Let them respond] Yes, Pilate. Did he find
guilt in Christ? No, none.

soltaran a un criminal y pidieron que crucificaran a
Jesús. Pilato lo entregó para ser crucificado.
[Gentío entra y hace fila a lo largo del escenario.]
Narrador: Una multitud se reunió para mirar.
[Centurión, Soldados y Jesús entran caminando con
dificultad. Jesús lleva la cruz.]
Narrador: La espalda del Señor estaba toda herida
por los azotes que le dieron. La cruz fue muy pesada.
É1 estaba cansado y débil de su prueba penosa.
[Sacerdote y Discípulos entran y sigue a Jesús.]

Jesús: Hijas de Jerusalén.
Narrador: Continuó: “No lloren por mí; lloren más
bien por ustedes y por sus hijos.”
Aún en su hora de dolor el Señor Jesús pensaba más
en los otros que en sí mismo. É1 sabía que pronto
pasaría esa prueba tan horrible con gran victoria, pero
que Jerusalén seguiría sufriendo terriblemente por su
pecado.
[Todos salen]
2º Acto
[Calvario]
Narrador: Los soldados y Cristo salieron fuera de
Jerusalén. Había también dos criminales, cargando
cada uno su cruz. Iban a ser crucificados también a
ser castigados por sus propios crímenes. Pero el
Señor Jesús iba para ser castigado por los pecados de
todo el mundo. Por fin llegaron al Calvario, el cerro
donde lo iban a crucificar. Se llamaba Gó1gota en
hebreo y Calvario en latín. Ambos nombres quieren
decir calavera.
Narrator: The soldiers cruelly whipped Jesus and
mocked Him dressing like a king, putting a crown of
thorns on Him, hitting Him, spitting on Him, and
laughing at Him. The priests and leaders asked that
they free a criminal and asked that they crucify Jesus.
Pilate delivered him to be crucified.
[Crowd enters and makes a line across the stage.]
Narrator: A multitude gathered to watch.
[Centurion, Soldiers & Jesus enter walking with
difficulty. Jesus is carrying the cross.]
Narrator: The Lord’s back was completely wounded
from the lashes they gave him. He was carrying that
huge beam with difficulty. He was tired and weak
from his ordeal.
[Priest and Disciples enter and follow Jesus.]
[Soldiers make a path through the crowd]
Soldier 1: Make way! Make way!
Priest: [to Jesus] You are getting what you deserve!
[Disciples cry]
[Jesus stumbles and falls]
[Soldier 1 acts like he’s talking to Soldier 2.]
Narrator: One soldier said to another: “He is so
weak. He isn’t able to carry the cross anymore.”
[Soldier 2 acts like he’s talking to Soldier 1.]
Narrator: He replied: “What are we going to do? I
don’t want to be here all day.”
Soldier 1: [to Simon] You. Come here. What’s your
name?
[Simon approaches the soldier.]
Simon: Simon of Cyrene.
[Soldier 1 acts like he’s talking to Simon.]
Narrator: He answered: “O.K. Simon of Cyrene,
you are going to carry that cross. Let’s go!”
[Simon lifts up the cross and walks. The crowd
follows weeping.]
[Jesus stops and looks at the crowd.]
Jesus: Daughters of Jerusalem.
Narrator: He continued: “Don’t cry for me, cry even
more for yourselves and your children.”
Even in his hour of pain the Lord Jesus was thinking
more of others that of himself. He knew that soon this
horrible test would end with a great victory but that
Jerusalem would keep on suffering terribly for its sin.
[Everyone exits.]
Act 2
[Calvary]
Narrator: The soldiers and Christ went out of
Jerusalem. There were also two criminals, each
carrying his cross. They were going to be crucified
too to be punished for their own crimes. But the Lord
Jesus was going to be punished for the sins of the
whole world. At last they arrived at the Calvary, the
hill where they were going to be crucified. It is called
Golgotha in Hebrew and Calvary in Latin. Both
names mean skull.

[Todos entran. Los solidados y Simón y los presos
primeros y el gentío después.]
Narrador: Ofrecieron a los prisioneros un vino
mezclado con hiel para beber porque la hiel ayudaba
a calmar el dolor.
[Solado ofrece hiel a los presos. Los ladrones beben
pero Jesús, no.]
Narrador: Jesús no lo quiso tomar porque quiso
llevar todo el castigo por nosotros, y tenía que sentir
todo el dolor en su cuerpo.
[Los soldados los desnudan a los tres y los clavan a
las cruces. Todos gritan mucho por el dolor.]
[Los soldados ponen las cruces en los huecos.]
Jesús: Padre.
[Jesús hace como orando.]
Narrador: Continuó: “Perdónalos, porque no saben
lo que hacen.”
¡Qué gran amor, que podía perdonar a los que tanta
maldad le hacían! Si amamos al Señor y agradecemos
lo que É1 nos perdonó, debemos también perdonar a
los que nos hacen maldades.
[Soldados reparten la ropa de los condenados.
Soldado 1 sostiene la túnica de Jesús.]
[Soldada 1 hace como hablando a Soldado 2.]
Narrador: Un soldado dijo al otro: “Un La túnica de
ese Jesús es muy especial, sin costura, y no quiero
romperla.”
[Soldado 2 hace como hablando a Soldado uno.]
Narrador: Replicó: “Echamos un bolado para ver a
quién se le queda.”
[Soldados echan el bolado y soldado 2 la gana.]
Narrador: Ellos no sabían que estaban cumpliendo
la profecía (de Salmo 22:18) que dice, “Repartieron
entre sí mis vestidos, y sobre mi ropa echaron
suertes.”
[Centurión pone la marca en la cruz de Jesús]
Narrador: Pilato había mandado poner un título en
la cruz que decía, “ESTE ES JESUS DE NAZARET,
REY DE LOS JUDÍOS”.
Sacerdote: Centurión.
[Sacerdote hace como hablando al Centurión.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Cambia ese letrero, que no diga
‘Rey de los judíos’, sino que diga ‘É1 dijo que era el
Rey de los judíos’.”
[Centurión hace como hablando al Sacerdote.]
Narrador: Replicó: “Pilato dijo, ‘Lo que he escrito,
he escrito’.”
Dios así usó a este gobernador incrédulo para que
este testimonio se diera a todo el mundo.
Había una gran multitud allí. Además de los que
habían ido expresamente a ver, muchos de los que
pasaban también se quedaban.
[Uno del gentío señala a Jesús y hace como si
gritándole.]

Narrator: Here at Calvary they offered the prisoners
wine mixed with gall to drink because the bile would
have helped to ease the pain.
[Soldier offers gall to the prisoners. The robbers
drink but Jesus doesn’t]
Narrator: Jesus didn’t take it because he wanted to
bear all the punishment for us and had to feel all the
pain in His body.
[Soldiers strip the three and nail them to the crosses.
They all cry out from the pain.]
[Soldiers put the crosses into the holes.]
Jesus: Father. [Jesus acts like he’s praying.]
Narrator: He continued: “Forgive them because they
don’t know what they are doing.”
What great love that He could forgive those who did
Him such evil! If we love the Lord and accept that He
has forgiven us, we ought to also forgive those who
have done us evil.
[Soldiers divide the clothes of the condemned.
Soldier 1 holds up Jesus’ robe.]
[Soldier 1 acts like he’s talking to Soldier 2.]
Narrator: One soldier said to another: “The tunic of
that Jesus is very special, seamless, and I don’t want
to tear it.”
[Soldier 2 acts like he’s talking to Soldier 2.]
Narrator: He answered: “Let’s cast lots over it to see
with whom it will remain.”
[Soldiers cast lots and soldier 2 wins it.]
Narrator: They didn’t know that they had fulfilled
the prophecy (of Psalm 22:18) that says, “They
divided up my clothing and over my robe they cast
lots.”
[Centurion puts sign on Jesus’ cross]
Narrator: Pilate had ordered a sign placed on the
cross that said, “THIS IS JESUS OF NAZERETH,
KING OF THE JEWS.”
Priest: Centurion.
[Priest acts like he’s talking to the Centurion.]
Narrator: He said: “Change that sign so that it
doesn’t say ‘King of the Jews’ but rather ‘He said he
was the King of the Jews.’”
[Centurion acts like he’s talking to the Priest.]
Narrator: He answered: “Pilate said “What I have
written, I have written.”
God thus used this unbelieving governor so that
testimony would be given to the whole world.
There was a great multitude there. In addition to
those who had come expressly to see many who
passed by also remained.
[One of crowd points at Jesus and acts like he’s
shouting at him.]

Narrador: Uno de los sacerdotes dijo: “A otros
salvó, pero a sí mismo no se puede salvar. Si es el
Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz y creeremos
en él.”
[Soldado 1 se ríe y hace como hablando a Jesús.]
Narrador: Los soldados se burlaron de él diciendo:
“Sí, Rey de los Judíos, sálvate a ti mismo.
Aún uno de los otros crucificados se burló a él.

Narrador: Otra vez vemos que en su sufrimiento, el
Señor pensó en los demás. Quiso que Juan cuidara a
su madre.
A1 llegar el mediodía una oscuridad espantosa cubrió
la tierra. Duró tres horas. Nada se veía en esas
tinieblas. Jesús sentía la culpa y la vergüenza de
todos los pecados del mundo. Sabía que su Padre no
podía ver ese pecado. Sentía tanto la separación de su
Padre con quien estaba desde la eternidad.
Jesús: “Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has
desamparado?”
Narrador: Jesús llevaba los pecados del mundo en
su cuerpo. Fue hecho pecado por nosotros. Fue la
ofrenda que nos compró la salvación.

Narrator: One of crowd shouted:” You who could
destroy the temple and in three days raise it up, now
save yourself. If you are the Son of God, descend
from the cross.”
[Priest acts like he’s talking to the crowd.]
Narrator: One of the priests said: “He saved others
but he cannot save himself. If he is King of Israel,
come down now from the cross, we will believe in
him.”
[Soldier 1 laughs and acts like he’s talking to Jesus.]
Narrator: The soldiers mocked him saying: “Yes,
King of the Jews, save yourself.”
Even one of the others being crucified mocked him.
[Thief 1 acts like he’s talking to Jesus.]
Narrator: He said: “If you are the Christ, save
yourself and us.”
But the other thief didn’t.
[Thief 2 acts like he’s talking to Thief 1.]
Narrator: He said: “Don’t you fear God being in the
same condemnation? We are getting what we deserve
but that one has done nothing wrong.”
[Thief 2 acts like he’s talking to Jesus]
Narrator: He told Jesus: “Remember me when you
come into your kingdom”
Jesus: Today you will be with me in paradise.
Narrator: What a precious hope! Soon he is going to
pass from the horrible suffering to eternal joy. But
the other thief had nothing to hope for. We are the
same, we are believers or unbelievers. Which side are
you on?
Together at the cross were Mary, Jesus’ mother, other
women and John, the beloved disciple.
Jesus: [to Mary] Woman, here is your son. [to John]
Here is your mother.
Narrator: Once again we see that in His suffering,
the Lord thought of others. He wanted John to care
for His mother.
When noon arrived, a terrifying darkness covered the
earth. It lasted three hours. Nothing was visible in
this darkness. Jesus felt the guilt and shame of all the
sins of the world. He knew that His Father couldn’t
look upon that sin. He so felt the separation from his
Father with whom He had been for eternity.
Jesus: My God, My God, why have you forsaken
me?
Narrator: Jesus bore the sins of the world in His
body. He was made sin for us. He was the offering
that bought us salvation.
Jesus: I thirst.
[John gives Him a sponge]
Jesus: It is finished! Father into Your hands I
commend my spirit. [Lowers his head]
[The earth shakes]

Narrador: La tierra temblaba, las piedras se
partieron. Los sepulcros se abrieron. E1 centurión y
sus compañeros, cuando vieron todas esas cosas, y
que Jesús murió clamando con fuerza, entregando É1
mismo su vida, se asustaron mucho.
[Centurión hace como hablando a la audiencia.
Narrador: El centurión exclamó: “Verdaderamente
este hombre era justo; era el Hijo de Dios.”
[Gentío se pega en sus pechos y llora]
Uno de gentío: ¡Estamos equivocados!
[Todos salen corriendo menos los soldados y
discípulos.]
Narrador: A la misma vez, el velo del templo se
rasgó en dos desde arriba abajo. E1 velo antes dividía
el lugar santo del lugar santísimo. Sólo el sumo
sacerdote podía entrar allí. Rasgando el velo, Dios
mostró que ya la vía estaba abierta para entrar en su
presencia por medio del cuerpo quebrantado de su
Hijo.
[Soldados bajan a los condenados]
Narrador: Hubo un senador noble, bueno y justo
llamado José de Arimatea. É1 no había consentido en
el consejo de matar a Jesús, pero por miedo no decía
que era creyente. Decidió hacer lo que podía por el
Señor. José era rico, y tenía una sepultura nueva que
él había mandado cavar en una peña en un jardín
cerca del Calvario. É1 quería que el Señor tuviera ese
lugar que había preparado para sí mismo. Pilato dio
el permiso.
[José y Nicodemo entran con sábana y especias.]
Narrador: Nicodemo, otro senador que antes creía
en secreto, llevó un compuesto de mirra y de áloes.
[José y Nicodemo envuelven el cuerpo de Jesús,

se fueron también a casa con sus corazones tristes
para reposar en el sábado, llorando la muerte de su
Señor.
Centurion: Earthquake!
[Everyone falls]
Narrator: The earth shook, the rocks split. Tombs
opened. The centurion and his companions, when
they saw these things, and that Jesus cried out
forcefully giving up His own life, they were very
afraid.
[Centurion acts like he’s talking to the audience.]
Narrator: The centurion exclaimed: “Truly this man
was righteous, He was the Son of God.”
[Crowd beats their chests and weeps]
One of the crowd: We are wrong!
[All leave running except soldiers and disciples.]
Narrator: At the same time, the veil of the temple
split in two from top to bottom. The veil previously
divided the holy place from the most holy place.
Only the high priest could enter there. By tearing the
veil, God showed that the way was open to enter into
His presence though the broken body of His Son.
[Soldiers lower the condemned]
Narrator: There was a noble senator, good and
righteous, named Joseph of Arimathea. He had not
agreed in the council to death for Jesus but for fear
hadn’t said he was a believer. He decided what he
would do for the Lord. Joseph was rich and had a
new sepulcher that he had ordered carved into a cliff
in a garden nearby Calvary. He wanted the Lord to
have that place he had prepared for himself. Pilate
gave permission.
[Joseph and Nicodemus enter with sheet and spices.]
Narrator: Nicodemus, another senator who before
secretly believed, brought a mixture of myrrh and
aloes.
[Joseph and Nicodemus wrap Jesus’ body placing
spices inside.]
Narrator: The Jews used these spices to prepare
bodies for burial.
[Joseph and Nicodemus lift up Jesus’ body and exit.]
[Disciples follow Joseph and Nicodemus.]
Narrator: They placed Jesus’ body in Joseph’s new
sepulcher.
[Soldiers exit.]
Narrator: After putting the body in the tomb, they
rolled a very big, heavy stone in front of the door. It
was already almost night. They quickly left because
they had to purify themselves before the Sabbath (the
day of rest). The women saw where they put Him and
also went home, with sad hearts, to rest on the
Sabbath, mourning the death of their Lord.

Narrador: Unos de los judíos, enemigos de Jesús,
vieron también donde lo sepultaron. Fueron a Pilato a
pedir una guardia para el sepulcro para que los
discípulos no pudieron robar el cuerpo y Pilato
estuvo de acuerdo. Pusieron un sello en la piedra para
que nadie se atreviera a moverla. Por eso pensaron
evitar que los discípulos dijeran que Jesús había
resucitado. Mañana veremos qué pasó con el guardia
y ese sello en la tumba.
Narrator: Some of the Jews, enemies of Jesus, also
saw where they buried Him. They went to Pilate to
ask a guard for the tomb so that the disciples couldn’t
steal the body and Pilate agreed. They put a seal on
the stone so that no one would dare to move it. Thus
they thought to prevent the disciples from saying that
Jesus had risen. Tomorrow we will see what
happened with the guard and that seal on the tomb.

si aceptamos a Jesús como Salvador, él nos da el
perdón, porque él ya pago la muerte que debíamos.

of Arimathea did for serving the Lord in spite of what
is said and done by those who don’t love Him. If
before you believed in secret, don’t be ashamed any
more from confessing Christ. Put yourself on his side
so that everyone knows it.
For the unbelievers: This story of our Lord Jesus’
crucifixion is the more important story in the whole
world, because without His death, no one could be
saved. All of us are lost, condemned, but if we accept
Jesus as Savior, He will forgive us because He has
already paid the death that we should have. We only
have to accept the gift that He offers us. If we don’t
accept Christ, we remain lost forever like the
unrepentant thief. Which thief will you be like? You
are on one side or the other. Seek the side of
forgiveness. Don’t reject the Lord who suffered so
for you.

Crafts and Object Lessons
(1) For an object lesson, make three crosses: a red one in the middle, a black one on one side, and a white one
on the other side. Place them in a sand table like the
drawing at right.
Explain that the black cross represents the thief who
rejected Jesus and the white one represents the thief
who accepted Him. Say that the one who accepted
Jesus had his sins forgiven but the other one went on
from the agony of the cross to eternal punishment.
Say that we have to make the same choice as the two
thieves and we’ll either end up in heaven with Jesus
or in eternal punishment. Invite the children to come
stand on the side of the pardoned thief if they have
accepted Christ or if they want to accept Him right now. Point out to those who remain seated they are
choosing to reject Jesus but that they can change their minds and come up.
(2) Color today’s emblem (cross) and the Bible text sheet (if used).
(3) Hand out the student books according to the level of the class. Make sure to get each student’s name on the
back and to mark today’s attendance. Color the lesson title page drawing in the student book.

[The Tomb]
Narrator: Yesterday in the drama we left the
disciples sad. Why were they crying? [Let them
answer.] Yes, they were sad for the death of the Lord
Jesus. They believed He had come to be the king of
Israel. But their hopes were ended. They didn’t
understand that Christ first had to suffer and die for
all. What are some the things that Christ suffer in
yesterday’s lesson? [Let them answer.] Carrying the
cross, with the flesh of his back total torn, until he
couldn’t… hearing the mocking of the people…

Narrador: Ver a los suyos llorando por no entender
por qué É1 tenía que sufrir... sentir la vergüenza de la
cruz, estando sin ropa... sufrir el dolor de los clavos y
la agonía del cuerpo colgado... tener esa sed terrible...
sufrir la vergüenza de la culpa del pecado de todo el
mundo... sentir la separación de su Padre Celestial.
¡Tanto sufrió É1 por nosotros!
Los discípulos no se acordaban de la promesa de la
resurrección. Pero los príncipes de los sacerdotes, sí,
recordaron. ¿Qué pidieron a Pilato? [Deja que
responden.] Sí, que les diera guardia, y que sellara la
tumba para que los discípulos no pudieran robar el
cuerpo y decir que Cristo había resucitado. Y Pilato
les dio soldados romanos y el sepulcro fue sellado.
[Soldados entran.]
Narrador: Aquí vemos a los soldados cuidando el
sepulcro. Velaban bien porque si un soldado romano
se dormía cuando estaba de servicio, lo mataban. Se
necesitarían varios hombres fuertes para remover la
piedra muy grande y pesada enfrente de la puerta.
[La tierra tiembla y el ángel entra]
Soldados: [con miedo] ¡Ahí, Ahí!
[Ángel levanta su brazo y los soldados se callan y
quedan como muertos. Ángel levanta la piedra y la
rompe lo. Ángel se esconde detrás de la tumba.]
[Soldados despiertan lentamente.]
Soldado 1: ¡Mira!
[Soldado 1 hace como hablando a Soldado 2.]
Narrador: Continuó: “¡Alguien ha movido la piedra,
y el sello está roto!”
Soldado 2: ¡Muy mal! ¿Y el cuerpo?
Soldado 1: [mira en la tumba] ¡Vacía!
Soldado 2: ¿Que haremos?
[Soldado 1 hace como hablando a Soldado 2.]
Narrador: Replicó: “No podemos ir a Pilato.
Vámonos a ver a los líderes de los judíos.”
[Soldados salen.]
Narrador: Corrieron a la ciudad para avisar a los
sacerdotes. Estaban en peligro de morir por dejar
abrir el sepulcro. Contaron del terremoto, lo que los
sacerdotes también sintieron, y del ángel y de la
tumba vacía. Ahora los sacerdotes debían haber
creído por fin, ¿verdad? Pero no quisieron creer.
Prefirieron una mentira. Dijeron a la guardia, “Diga
que los discípulos robaron el cuerpo mientras ustedes
dormían. Les pagaremos mucho dinero. Si Pilato
sabe, le persuadiremos que no les debe castigar.”
Narrador: Mientras tanto María Magdalena y María
la Madre de Jacobo y Salomé salieron temprano con
las especias que prepararon para el cuerpo de Jesús.
[Las Marías y Salomé entran y paran al lado del
escenario.]
María Magdalena: ¿Quién nos quitará la piedra?
Narrator: Seeing His own crying because they didn’t
understand that He had to suffer… feeling the shame
of the cross, being naked… suffering the pain of the
nails and the agony of being hung… Having terrible
thirst… suffering the shame of the guilt of the sin of
the whole world… feeling the separation from His
Heavenly Father. He suffered so much for us!
The disciples didn’t remember the promise of the
resurrection. But the chief priests remembered. What
did they ask Pilate? [Let them answer.] Yes, that he
would give them a guard and seal the tomb so that the
disciples wouldn’t be able to steal the body and say
that Christ had been resurrected. And Pilate gave
them Roman soldiers and sealed the sepulcher.
[Soldiers enter.]
Narrator: Here we see the soldiers guarding the
sepulcher. They watched well because if a Roman
soldier slept while on duty, they killed him. It would
take several strong men to remove the very large and
heavy stone in front of the door.
[The earth shakes and the angel enters]
Soldiers: [in fear] Ah, ah!
[The angel raises his arm and the soldiers fall down
and lay still as if they are dead. Angel lifts the stone
and breaks it. Angel hides behind tomb.]
[Soldiers awaken slowly.]
Soldier 1: Look!
[Soldier 1 acts like he’s talking to Soldier 2.]
Narrator: He continued: “The stone has been
removed and the seal broken!”
Soldier 2: Very bad! And the body?
Soldier 1: [looks in the tomb] Empty!
Soldier 2: What will we do?
[Soldier 1 acts like he’s talking to Soldier 2.]
Narrator: He answered: “We can’t go to Pilate. Let’s
go to the leaders of the Jews.”
[Soldiers exit]
Narrator: They ran to the city to tell the priests.
They were in danger of death for letting the sepulcher
be opened. They told of the earthquake, which the
priest had also felt, and the angel and the empty
tomb. Now the priests should have believed at last,
right? But they didn’t want to believe. They preferred
a lie. The told the guard, “Say that the disciples stole
the body while you were sleeping. We will pay you
much money. If Pilate finds out, we will persuade
him that he shouldn’t punish you.”
Narrator: Meanwhile Mary Magdalene and Mary
the mother of Jacob and Salome went out early with
the spices they prepared for Jesus’ body.
[The two Marys and Salome enter with spices and
stand at the side of the stage.]
Mary Magdalene: Who will remove the stone for
us?

[Acercan la tumba. Ven que la piedra está quitado]
[María Magdalena hace como hablando a los otros.]
María Magdalena: Se han llevado el Señor. Debo
decirlo a Pedro y Juan.
[María Magdalena sale corriendo. Las otras van a la
entrada da la tumba. Ángel sale de detrás de la
tumba.]
Ángel: No temas.
[Ángel hace como hablando a las mujeres.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Yo sé que ustedes están buscando
a Jesús de Nazaret. No está aquí, porque ha
resucitado. Vean el lugar donde le pusieron.”
[Mujeres miran en la tumba]
[Ángel hace como hablando a las mujeres.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Recuerden lo que É1 les dijo, que
era necesario que É1 fuera crucificado y que
resucitara al tercer día. Vayan a decirle a sus
discípulos y que Jesús va antes que ustedes a
Galilea.”
[Las mujeres salen gozosas. Ángel se esconde detrás
de la tumba.]
Narrador: Corrieron a decir a los discípulos que
ellas habían visto la tumba vacía y que el ángel les
había dicho que Jesús vivía. Pero los discípulos
todavía no creían. Pensaban que las mujeres
hablaban locuras. A1 oír las noticias Pedro y Juan
corrieron al sepulcro tan rápido como pudieron para
ver ellos mismos. Comenzaron juntos, pero John
superó a Pedro.
[Juan entra corriendo, se agacha en la entrada de la
tumba y mira.]
[Pedro entra, corre a la tumba, y se mete adentro
inmediatamente]
Narrador: Pedro vio los lienzos y el sudario de la
cabeza envuelto en un lugar aparte.
[Juan entra a la tumba. Ambos salen de la tumba]
Juan: ¡Cristo ha resucitado!
[Ambos salen]
Narrador: Ellos volvieron alegres a los demás
discípulos, y cuando Juan llegó a su casa, tenía
noticias maravillosas para María, la madre de Jesús.
Mientras tanto, María Magdalena regresó a la tumba
sin conocer que Jesús ha resucitado.
[María Magdalena entra y miren la entrada de la

Jesús: ¿Mujer, por qué lloras? ¿A quién buscas?
[They approach the tomb. They see that the stone is
removed]
[Mary Magdalene acts like she’s talking to the
others.]
Mary Magdalene: They have taken the Lord. I must
tell it to Peter and John.
[Mary Magdalene exits running. The others go to the
entrance to the tomb. Angel come out from behind the
tomb.]
Angel: Fear not.
[Angel acts like he’s talking to the women.]
Narrator: He said: “I know that you are looking for
Jesus of Nazareth. He is not here because He has
risen. See the place where they put Him.”
[Women look in the tomb]
[Angel acts like he’s talking to the women.]
Narrator: He said: “Remember that which He told
you, that it was necessary that He would be crucified
and that he would rise on the third day. Go tell His
disciples that Jesus goes before you to Galilee.”
[The women exit joyfully. Angel hids behind the
tomb.]
Narrator: They ran to tell the disciples that they had
seen the tomb empty and that the angel had told them
that Jesus lived. But the disciples still didn’t believe.
They thought that the women were talking crazily.
On hearing the news, Peter and John ran to the
sepulcher as fast as they could to see for themselves.
They started together but John outran Peter.
[John enters running, bends down at the entrance of
the tomb and looks]
[Peter enters, runs to the tomb, and thrusts himself
inside immediately]
Narrator: Peter saw the wrappings and the headcloth
folded in a separate place.
[John enters the tomb. Both exit the tomb.]
John: Christ has risen!
[Both exit]
Narrator: They returned happy to the rest of the
disciples and when John arrived at his house, he had
wonderful news for Mary, mother of Jesus.
Meanwhile, Mary Magdaline returned to the tomb
without knowing Jesus had risen.
[Mary Magdline enters and looks at the entrance of
the tomb, crying. Angel comes out of the tomb.]
Angel: Woman why do you weep?
[Mary Magdline acts like she’s talking to Angel.]
Narrator: She said: “Because they have taken my
Lord and I don’t know where they have put Him.”
[Jesus enters and approaches Mary Magdalene.]
Narrator: It was the Lord Jesus! But she didn’t know
that it was Jesus. She thought it was the gardener.
Jesus: Woman, why the tears? Whom do you seek?

María Magdalena: Oh, señor, si usted lo ha llevado,
dígame dónde le ha puesto, para que yo lo lleve.
Jesús: ¡María!
María Magdalena: ¡Raboni!
[María se arrodilla a los pies de Jesús y lo abraza.]
Jesús: Suéltame, porque todavía no he ido a reunirme
con mi Padre. Pero ve y di a mis hermanos que voy a
reunirme con el que es mi Padre y Padre de ustedes,
mi Dios y Dios de ustedes.
[María sale gozoso]
Narrador: María llegó a donde estaban los
discípulos reunidos y les contó que ella había visto al
Señor vivo y había hablado con É1, y que É1 le había
mandado a decirles. Pero todavía algunos no creían.
2º Acto
[El aposento alto]
Narrador: Ese mismo día Cleofas y otro creyente
iban a pie de Jerusalén a una aldea llamada Emaús.
Jesús se les apareció y les explicó el Antiguo
Testamento desde los libros de Moisés y todos los
profetas. Les enseñó cómo todas esas Escrituras
hablaban de É1 y cómo él debe sufrir, morir y
resucitar.
[Discípulos entran y sientan]
Narrador: Regresaron esa misma hora a Jerusalén.
Fueron a donde estaban los once discípulos reunidos
con otros creyentes con las puertas cerradas por
miedo de los judíos.
[Sonido de llamar a la puerta]
Pedro: ¿Quién es?
Cleofas: Cleofas.
[Pedro abre la puerta, Cleofas entra, y Pedro cierra
la puerta otra vez.]
John: E1 Señor ha resucitado.
Cleofas: Le hemos visto también en el camino a
Emaús y nos dijo todas las cosas tocantes a Él desde
las Escrituras.
[Los discípulos se quedan helados y Jesús entra sin
usar la puerta.]
Jesús: Paz.
[Discípulos están asustado.]
Narrador: Estaban espantados y asombrados. Las
puertas estaban cerradas. Pensaban que veían un
espíritu. E1 cuerpo de Jesús estaba cambiado. Era
libre de la ley de no poder pasar por una puerta
sólida.
Jesús: No tengan miedo.
[Jesús hace como hablando a los discípulos.]
Narrador: Continuó: “Miren mis manos y mis pies,
que yo mismo soy. Tóquenme y vean. Un espíritu no
tiene carne ni huesos como ustedes ven que yo
tengo.”
Mary Magdalene: Oh sir, if you have taken Him, tell
me where you have put Him, so I may get Him
Jesus: Mary!
Mary Magdeline: Rabboni!
[Mary kneels at Jesus’ feet and embraces Him]
Jesus: Release me because I still have not gone to
reunite with my Father. But go and tell my brothers
that I go to rejoin my Father and your Father, My
God and your God
[Mary exits joyfully]
Narrator: Mary arrived where the disciples were
gathered and told that she had seen the Lord and had
spoken with Him and what He had told her to tell
them. But still some did not believe.
Act 3 [The Upper Room]
Narrator: That same day Cleophas and another
believer were going from Jerusalem to a village
named Emmaus. Jesus appeared to them and
explained the Old Testament from the books of
Moses and all the prophets. He taught them how all
these scriptures spoke of Him and how he must suffer
and die and be raised again.
[Disciples enter and sit]
Narrator: They returned that same hour to
Jerusalem. They went to where the eleven disciples
joined with other believers with the doors locked for
fear of the Jews.
[Sound of knocking at the door]
Peter: Who is it?
Cleophas: Cleophas.
[Peter opens the door, Cleophas enters and Peter
locks the door again.]
John: The Lord has risen.
Cleophas: We have also seen Him on the road to
Emmaus and He told us all things concerning Him
from the Scriptures.
[Disciples freeze and Jesus enters without using the
door.]
Jesus: Peace.
[Disciples are afraid.]
Narrator: They were frightened and amazed. The
doors were locked. They though they saw a spirit.
Jesus’ body was changed. He was freed from the law
that you can’t pass through a solid door.
Jesus: Don’t be afraid.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to the disciples.]
Narrator: He continued: “Look at my hands and my
feet, that it is me. Touch me and see. A spirit does not
have flesh nor bone as you see that I have.”

[Discípulos se acercan a Jesús con cuidado. Juan
toca las manos de Jesús]
Juan: ¡Es verdad! ¡Es el Señor! ¡Gloria a Dios!
Todos: ¡Gloria a Dios! ¡El Señor ha resucitado!
Jesús: ¿Tienes algo que comer?
[Todos se sientan y le dan pescado asado. Comen.]
Narrador: Ahora, sí, veían que no era un espíritu. Y
los discípulos se gozaron viendo al Señor. Entonces
como se entró, se salió.
[Los discípulos se quedan helados y Jesús sale]
[Se escucha que alguien se toca la puerta]
[Pedro abre la puerta. Tomás entra.]
Pedro: ¡Tomás!
[Pedro hace como hablando a Tomás.]
Narrador: Continuó: “¡El Señor ha resucitado! Lo
hemos visto aquí en este cuarto.”
[Tomás hace como hablando a Pedro.]
Narrador: Replicó: “Si yo no meto mi dedo en el
lugar de los clavos y si no meto mi mano en su
costado, no voy a creer.”
Pero e1 próximo domingo los discípulos estaban
juntos incluyendo Tomás, aunque todavía dudaba.
Las puertas estaban cerradas.
[Discípulos se quedan helados y Jesús entra]
Jesús: Paz.
[Jesús hace como hablando a Tomás.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Tomás, mete tu dedo aquí y mete
su mano en mi costado: y no seas incrédulo, sino fiel.
[Tomás se arrodilla a los pies de Jesús y pone la
cara en el piso]
Tomás: ¡Señor mío y Dios mío!
Narrador: Lo adoró. Admitió que Jesús era su
Señor, el que tenía derecho de mandar, y mucho más,
que era Dios.
Jesús: Tomás.
[Jesús hace como hablando a Tomás.]
Narrador: Dijo: “Tú creíste porque me viste.
Bienaventurados los que no vieron y creyeron.”
¿Estamos todos entre aquellos bienaventurados? Los
que creemos en Cristo, sí, estamos entre ellos.
[Todos salen.]
Narrador: Varias veces Jesús apareció a los
discípulos durante los cuarenta días. Una vez
apareció a quinientos juntos. Por fin llegó el día
cuando Cristo iba a volver a su Padre Celestial. É1
llevó a los discípulos al monte de los Olivos. Les
mandó esperar en Jerusalén para el Espíritu Santo,
quien les iba a dar el poder. Debían predicar en
Jerusalén, y en toda Judea, y más allá en Samaria, y
en todas partes del mundo para que todos supieran
que podían ser salvados en Jesús. Prometió estar con

[Disciples approach Jesus carefully. John touches
His hands.]
John: It’s true! It is the Lord. Glory to God!
All: Glory to God! The Lord is risen!
Jesus: Do you have something to eat?
[All sit and they give Him grilled fish. They eat.]
Narrator: Now, yes, they saw that He wasn’t a spirit.
And the disciples rejoiced seeing the Lord. Then as
He entered, He left.
[Disciples freeze and Jesus exits]
[Sound of knocking on the door]
[Peter opens the door. Thomas enters.]
Peter: Thomas!
[Peter acts like he’s talking to Thomas.]
Narrator: He continued: “The Lord is raised! We
have seen Him here in this room.”
[Thomas acts like he’s talking to Peter.]
Narrator: He answered: “Unless I put my finger in
the nail holes and unless I put my hand in His side, I
will not believe.”
But the next Sunday the disciples were together
including Thomas, though he was still doubting. The
doors were locked.
[Disciples freeze and Jesus enters]
Jesus: Peace.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Thomas.]
Narrator: He said: “Thomas, put your finger here
and put your hand in my side and don’t be
unbelieving but believing.”
[Thomas kneels at the feet of Jesus and puts his face
on the floor]
Thomas: My Lord and my God!
Narrator: He worshiped Him. He acknowledged that
Jesus was his Lord, He that had the right to rule, and
much more, that He is God.
Jesus: Thomas.
[Jesus acts like he’s talking to Thomas.]
Narrator: He said: “You believe because you have
seen me. Blessed are those who don’t see and do
believe.”
Are all of you among those blessed ones? Those who
believe in Christ, yes, we are among them.
[Everyone exits.]
Narrator: Several times Jesus appeared to the
disciples during forty days. Once He appeared to four
hundred at once. At last the day arrived when Christ
was going to return to his Heavenly Father. He took
His disciples to the Mount of Olives. He told them to
wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit, who was going
to give them the power. He told them to preach in
Jerusalem, in all of Judea, and further in Samaria, and
in every part of the world so that all would know that
they could be saved in Jesus. He promised to be with
them always until the end of the world. Then he
ascended into the clouds and two angels told the
disciples he would return the same way.

Preguntas Para Aplicación ¿Qué pasó con los soldados a la tumba? [Terremoto,
ángel aparece, agotado, la tumba estaba vacía] Y
después de eso, ¿dónde fueron? [A los líderes de los
judíos] Y ellos creyeron, ¿verdad? [¡No!] No,
prefirieron una mentira y rechazaron a Cristo otra
vez. ¿Y nosotros? Sabemos que Cristo ha resucitado
pero ¿preferimos una mentira?
¿Cuándo las mujeres llegaron a la tumba, que

tener ese gozo cuando tenemos a Cristo en nuestras
vidas.
¿Cuándo las mujeres dijeron a los discípulos que
Jesús estaba viviendo, creyeron? [No, pensaron que
las mujeres estaban locas] Y, cuando Jesús apareció
en medio de ellos, creyeron, ¿Verdad? [No, pensaron
que Él era espíritu] Fue muy difícil de creer para
ellos. ¿Quién fue el que dudo más? [Tomás] ¿Al fin,
creyó Tomás? [Si, adoró a Jesús] No debemos de ser
como Tomás cuando Cristo nos invite a tener una
vida eterna. Debemos de adorarlo inmediatamente.
¿Cómo entró Jesús en la habitación donde los
discípulos estaban esperando? [Pasó por el muro.]
Sí, el cuerpo de Jesús estaba cambiado. ¿Sabes que
algún día nosotros también habremos cambiado los
cuerpos listos para el cielo? Todos aquellos que creen
en Cristo recibirán ese cambio. Si hemos muerto,
seremos resucitados con nuevos cuerpos y si todavía
estamos vivos cuando Cristo venga, Él cambiará los
cuerpos y nos llevará con los resucitados para estar
siempre con Él. Estos cuerpos nuevos no sentirán
dolor ni se cansarán como los que tenemos ahora.
Para los creyentes: Nosotros también nos alegramos
en el Cristo vivo, sabiendo que no solamente nos
salvó, sino que intercede por nosotros
constantemente, y que vendrá por nosotros quizás
pronto. ¿Estás tú listo si viene hoy? ¿Hablas de É1
dondequiera que vas como É1 mandó?
Para los no creyentes: ¿Sabes tú que nosotros
también podemos tener ese gozo que tenían los
discípulos? Cristo no murió solamente por ellos, sino
por nosotros también. Si confiamos en él como
nuestro Salvador, que venció la muerte, él nos dará
vida eterna y gozo. Cuando venga nos llevará para
estar con él en la Gloria. Cristo puede venir cualquier
día. ¿Estás tú listo?
Application Questions What happened with the soldiers at the tomb?
[Earthquake, angel appeared, knocked out, the tomb
was empty] And after this, where did they go? [To
the leaders of the Jews] And they believed, right?
[No] No, they preferred a lie and rejected Christ
again. And us? We know that Christ is risen but do
we prefer a lie?
When the women arrived at the tomb, what did they
find? [Stone removed, tomb empty, no body] And
what did they think? [That someone had removed the
body] Who did they encounter there? [Angel and
Jesus] How did the feel when they encountered
Jesus? [Very joyful] Yes, in the same way we can
have that joy when we encounter Christ in our lives.
When the women told the disciples that Jesus was
living, did they believe? [No, they thought the women
were crazy] And when Jesus appeared in the midst of
them, they believed, right? [No, they thought the He
was a spirit] It was very difficult for them to believe.
Who doubted the most? [Thomas] In the end, did he
believe? [Yes he worshiped Jesus] We shouldn’t be
like Thomas when Christ offers us eternal life. We
ought to worship Him immediately.
How did Jesus get into the room where the disciples
were waiting? [He passed through the wall.] Yes.
Jesus’ body was changed. Do you know that someday
we too will have changed bodies ready for heaven?
All those who believe in Christ will received that
change. If we have died we will be raised with new
bodies and if we are still alive when Christ comes, He
will change our bodies and He will take us with the
resurrected to be always with Him. These changed
bodies will not feel pain or become tired like the ones
we have now.
For the believers: We too rejoice in the Living
Christ, knowing that not only did He save us but that
he intercedes for us constantly and that He will come
for us, perhaps soon. Are you ready if He comes
today? Do you speak of Him wherever you go as He
commanded?
For the unbelievers: Do you know that we, too, can
have that joy that the disciples had? Christ did not die
only for them but for us also. If we trust in Him as
our Savior, the one who defeated death, He will give
us life eternal and joy. When He comes, He will take
us up to be with Him in Glory. Christ can come any
day. Are you ready?

Crafts and Object Lessons
(1) Copy the drawing of Jesus on the following page onto card stock. Color it and cut it out. Glue a magnet to
the back and a piece of paper on top of the magnet to conceal it. Make two red hearts each with two sides
as shown at right. Glued the sides together.
Put a strip of ferrous metal (such as a paper clip)
inside only one of the hearts. It’s important that
the two hearts look identical from the outside.
Read Matthew 24:40-41 (“one will be taken and
the other left behind”) and talk about how Christ
is coming for His own. Show the two hearts and
say that they seem the same on the outside. Then
bring the magnet near each heart so that the one
with the piece of metal gets lifted up. The other
one, without the metal, will stay put. Say that, just like the hearts, people may look the same on the outside
but that, when He comes for His own, those who have Christ in their hearts will go with Him and the rest
will remain behind. Ask if anyone wants to have Jesus in his or her heart so they will rise up with Him and
not be left behind.
(2) Color today’s emblem (empty tomb) and the Bible text sheet (if used).
(3) Hand out the student books according to the level of the class. Make sure to get each student’s name on the
back and to mark today’s attendance. Color the lesson title page drawing in the student book.

The Memory Work The daily memory verses for each lesson are on the title page for each day in the student books and often each level
book has different verses. All of these daily verses can be found in this book in each daily section. Have each
student memorize first the daily verse for his or her level. In addition, the back of the student book has a theme verse
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4) and theme text (Mark 16:1-9) for everyone. (If the younger children are not be able to
memorize them, they can at least take a copy home.) Review the daily verses every day and new add material from
the theme verses until the students are able to say them all.
To stimulate scripture memorization there is heart with an array of boxes like
the one at right in the inside cover of each student book. For each verse the
student repeats correctly, write the reference in a box.
Offer daily prizes for scripture memory from the first day on. Some groups
are more enthusiastic about this than other but the teacher has a lot to do with
arousing student interest. Offer a special prize for whoever learns the most in
each class. If more than one student memorizes 40 or 50 verse, all of them
should get a prize.
For those who want to keep learning more at home, you can give them copies
of these verses: Isaiah 53:1-12; Revelation 1:6; Psalm 24:7-10; Ephesians
5:27; Hebrews 4:14-16; Romans 5:1-11; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; and
Philippians 3:20-21. Since many of the children might not have Bibles,
having copies of the memory verses available is important.
Scripture quotations in the course materials are from Reina-Valera 1960™ (© Copyright 1960, Sociedades Bíblicas
en América Latina; 1988, Sociedades Bíblicas Unidas). It is important to consistently use the same version for the
memory work. The Reina Valera 1960 is available on line at the Bible Gateway (www.biblegateway.org). Note that
in some cases, the student books have abbreviated versions of the day’s scripture. For those who are motivated, you
might want to have them memorize the full text. Note also that the English for the verses in the Memory Verses
sections isn’t from a particular English language translation but is a translation of the Spanish.
The Alphabet (Abecedario) The alphabet is a memory exercise to help reinforce the daily lessons. This activity is done flashcard style. Mensaje
de Vida publications has a large Spanish alphabet on cards available or you can make your own. When the teacher
shows a letter, the children are to recite in unison the letter and what it represents. Each day, teach the letters that are
referenced are from things in that day’s lesson. The number you see in front of each letter indicates the lesson where
you find that letter and, therefore, the day that it is taught. There are extra letters for the first day. Each day, the
letters that were learned on previous days should be reviewed and then the new letters for that day added in
alphabetic order until the whole alphabet is recited on the fifth day.

The Use of the Map The Mensaje de Vida materials include a large map of the region where the events of the course take place.
Everything take place in Jerusalem or in nearby places. Using the map helps the students understand the geography
involved in the lessons. The drama scripts call for the Narrator to use the map to show certain locations. The map
has squares on it corresponding to the locations involved in each day of the program. There are also sticky-back
pictures that are meant to be stuck in the squares for each day. At some point in each day the picture for that day can
be introduced and one of the students can be picked to color it and stick it to the map. This could be done to review
the lesson or during craft time. The map kit also includes some cross stickers to be used however you choose.
Cue Cards There is a cue card document at the end of this PDF file. The cue cards are designed to be printed out on 8 ½ x 14-
inch paper in landscape mode. They have their lines in Spanish but the character names and the stage directions are
in English. To produce the most readable sheets, it’s a good idea to use a copier to enlarge them to the maximum
size paper the copier can accommodate. Then punch holes and mount them with rings on a cardboard back so that
the pages can be quickly flipped. If you can copy double sided in such a way that two pages are visible and readable
at once as the pages are turned, it gives the actors twice as much dialogue visible (this can be a bit tricky to work out
with some copiers). It can also be helpful to color code the speaker parts by using a highlighter of a particular color
for each role to highlight the character names for that role. For the Riverview Church Mexico teams, cue cards are
what make the drama format possible. They are used not just for rehearsal but also in the actual performance.
Supplemental Craft The Mexico Outreach Resource Manual contains about 11 pages of craft ideas and instructions. It can be
downloaded from the Mexico Outreach web site from a link in the Resources Center page.

The Theme Song The theme song, “¿Qué Me Puede Dar Perdon?” is a Spanish version of the first verse and chorus of the familiar
hymn “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus”. Mensaje de Vida offers a CD with various VBS theme songs on it,
including this one. The notes and guitar chords are provided on the following page. Mensaje de Vida also offers a
“Coro Ilustrado” (illustrated chorus) which displays the words as it unfolds into the shape of a cross. Here’s a
translated version of the instructions for assembling and using the Coro Ilustrado:
To fold the song: First fold the 6 behind the 5. Then fold the 5 and 6 behind the 2, the 4 behind the 2 the 3 behind
the 2, and the 1 behind the 2. Flip it over so that the 1 is on top.
To sing the song, first show the 1 which is both the title and first phrase. As the song is sung, unfold each phrase as
it is sung: the 2, followed by the 3, and then point to and sing the 2 again. For the chorus, unfold the 4, the 5, and the
6. Then point to the 2 and sing it again.
Here is a (very literal) translation of the theme song:
What can give me forgiveness? Only of Jesus the blood.
And a new heart? Only of Jesus the blood.
Precious is the torrent that cleanses all evil.
There is no other spring, only of Jesus the blood.
You should also use other songs and choruses in the program. Mexico Outreach has Spanish song resources
available for download on their web site. Additionally, the Libro de Director from Mensaje de Vida has a section
with suggested hymns and choruses.

The Student Booklets The student books available from Mensaje de Vida are a vital resource for the program. They are divided into three
levels: Alumno 1 (purple cover) for the youngest students, Alumno 2 (green cover) for the middle students, and
Alumno 3 (yellow cover) for the older students. Each level of student book has more a more difficult response
section and, in some cases, a different cut out craft. If you break into the four class divisions recommended in the
introduction, you might find that the Alumno 1 is best suited to the preschoolers, Alumno 2 to the beginners, and
Alumno 3 for the two upper levels.
Each student book is 8 ½” by 5 ½” and is organized as follows: Inside the cover is a heart for recording memorized
verses (see the Memory Work section above). Next, there is a daily lesson section for each of the five days (this is
explained below). Inside the back cover is the theme song (see previous section). On the back cover is the theme
verse (“versículo lema”) which is 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, the theme text (“texto lema”) which is Mark 16-19, as well
as a spot for the student’s name (“alumno”), teacher’s name (“maestro”) and for recording attendance (“asistencia”).
Each daily section has the following contents:
A title page with a drawing to color and the memory verse for that day.
A response sheet with questions or puzzles (see the daily Crafts and Object Lessons sections above).
A cut out craft (see the daily Crafts and Object Lessons sections above).
Each student should write his or her name on the back of the book and leave it at the VBS site until the last day.
Each day’s cut out craft work can either be displayed at the class site or taken home each day. So that the pieces of
paper won’t get lost, each student’s name should be written on the back of each one that will be left at the VBS site
until the last day.
In addition to the three student booklets there is a smaller booklet available called a Minicuaderno, primarily for
those seeking a very economical alternative. The Minicuaderno has smaller pages (4 ¼” by 5 ½”) and has two sheets
for each lesson. The first tells the story in a very simple way with a verse to memorize and, on the back, has a
drawing to color. The second sheet has the scripture text citations for where the story is told in the Bible, a recap of
the story with blanks to fill in, an additional verse and, on the back, another drawing to color. Here are the answers
for each day’s second sheet:
First day: “pollino” (colt), “David” (David), “ramas” (branches), “vestidos” (clothes), “Jesús” (Jesus),
“templo” (temple), “Dios” (God), “ladrones” (thieves), and “templo” (temple).

Bible Text Sheets This Mensaje de Vida resource includes a package of 10 sheets each of which has a Bible text along with
illustrations to color. The texts are either from the daily verses or associated with the theme of the course. These can
be taken home and put on the wall or refrigerator to provide a reminder of the VBS lessons.
The Bible Object Lesson (Krata-Kraft) Mensaje de Vida offers the Krata-Kraft Bible Object Lesson as an extra Spanish language instructional resource. It
has a series of color pages that are used to represent the material being taught and which are coordinated with a
memory verse. It is printed in booklet form. You can either cut out the pictures for use on a flannel board or just
show them from the booklet. There are three lessons recommended for use with this curriculum: “Razones para la

resurreción” (Reasons for the Resurrection), “Los siete palabras” (The Seven Words), and “La resurreción y la vida”
(The Resurrection and the Life).
Reasons for the Ressurection tells about the importance of the resurrection. tells the importance of the resurrection.
The Bible gives the reason for the death of the Lord Jesus (Heb. 9:26) but His death was only part of our salvation.
We have a living, raised Savior. There are a lot of reasons given in scripture for the resurrection of Christ. Seven
reasons are presented in this lesson: 1. Jesus is God (triangle), 2. Justification of sinners (man in white), 3. New
spiritual life (grapes), 4. True head of the church (a church), 5. Victory over death (calvary), 6. King of Israel
(purple throne), 7. Judge of humanity (white throne)
The Seven Words, a well known theme, teaches graphically the last seven sayings of the Lord. It starts with “the
word of forgiveness” to the soldiers, and continues with “the word of salvation” to the thief, “the word of
consolation” to His mother, “the word of anguish” because of his separation from the Father, “the word of victory”
at the fulfillment of the scriptures and the will of God, and ends with “the word of commending” and “In your hands
I commit my spirit”. It can be used with all ages.
The Resurrection and the Life is one of the lessons of the series “I am”. It answers questions about life after death
and shows the power of the Lord Jesus over death and the grave. It tells of the Lord’s friendship with the family
from Bethany, of the resurrection of Lazarus, and what Mary, Martha, and Lazarus learned about life, death, and
resurrection. It teaches about the great, future day of the resurrection. It clarifies the teaching about the resurrections
of the just and the unjust.
One can order any of them or all three. There isn’t time for all of them during the course but they are also useful
lessons for other occasions.
Prizes and Recognition You should consider giving prizes daily and at the end of the program for students who excel at various things. For
example: (1) to those with perfect attendance (2) to those who are always on time (3) to the student with the best
workbook in each class (4) to the one who brought the most visitors (5) to the one who learned the most memory
verses; (6) for whatever else that encourages or motivates a child.
To show off the students work, make a board for each class a ribbon (or thread) for each student. Each student’s
daily emblem (which are described below) can be hung on his or her ribbon to display that student’s work. The
memory verse “angels” could also be hung on these ribbons. To stimulate the student to bring more visitors, you can
glue a star or something else on his or her ribbon for each visitor that the student brings.
Teacher’s Book (Libro de Maestro) The Libro de Maestro is entirely in Spanish. You will need this book if you intend to do the storytelling format instead of
the dramas. It has the story for each day along with interleaved full-page color illustrations of the story. The story has cues
for the teacher as to when each illustration is to be shown to the students. In addition it has other material such as a map,
the alphabet phrases, object lesson instructions and the sheet music for the theme song.
Director’s Book (Libro de Director) The Libro de Director is an optional Spanish language resource which might be helpful if you are coordinating with
partners who do not speak English. It has been largely translated into English and included in this book.
Emblems On the following page are the pictures that are the emblems for each day’s lesson. These pictures are also found in
the Libro de Maestro. Make enough copies so that each student can color one for each day’s lesson. They can be
displayed on each student’s ribbon (see the “Prizes” section above) or sent home with the students daily.
