VA HUDSON VALLEY HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
CASTLE POINT · FDR MONTROSE www.hudsonvalley.va.gov
I n 1996, two Veteran Admin-istration Medical Centers (VAMCs) in Veterans Integrat-
ed Service Network (VISN) #3 con-solidated their services. It was the first locally initiated integration of its kind. In March of 1997, Castle Point VAMC and Franklin Delano Roosevelt VA Hospital joined to become the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System, which now serves 28,000 Hudson Valley veter-ans annually. Consisting of two main campus-es and a host of community-based outpatient clinics, the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System is dedi-cated to providing a wide range of services including medical, psychi-atric, and extended care. There are a number of VA Clinics in surround-ing counties: Orange County (Goshen and Port Jervis), Sullivan County (Monticello), Rockland County (New City), Putnam County (Carmel), and Dutchess County (Poughkeepsie and Pine Plains). These clinics bring care closer to veterans in communities in which they live. The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System is part of a larger net-work of care – VISN #3 – that in-cludes VAMCs in Brooklyn, Bronx, East Orange, Lyons, Manhattan, and Northport. Together they rep-resent a comprehensive health care system available to veterans throughout the NY/NJ area. A shar-ing relationship with Keller Army Hospital at West Point also provides veterans with enhanced services. Affiliations with many of the finest medical institutions provide an op-portunity to be on the leading edge of medical research and the latest advancements in clinical care. Car-rying on a tradition of excellence, the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System is proud to honor those who have served.
With the goal of providing excellent quality, comprehensive care to veterans, VA Hudson Valley Health Care System offers community living center residents with a multi-tude of recreational and fulfilling activities, including art, internet access, reading, games, and more.

FDR MONTROSE
As the southern facility of the VA Hud-son Valley Health Care System, Frank-lin Delano Roosevelt VA Campus is located in northern Westchester just 38 miles north of New York City. A former estate and original historic site of the mansion Boscobel or “Beautiful Woods,” this medical facility boasts one of the largest community home care programs for veterans within the entire VA system. The programs follow veter-ans who live in community residences, providing a link to a full array of mental health and medical services available at both main campuses. FDR provides services for acute and chronic mental health and extended care to a large geriatric population. Three residential programs specialize in recovery from substance abuse, PTSD, and home-lessness. Outpatient services include primary care, mental health clinics, den-tistry, optometry, podiatry, and women’s health clinics.
CASTLE POINT
The northern facility of the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System, Castle Point VA Campus, is located on the scenic banks of the Hudson River, just 65 miles north of New York City. It de-livers modern, progressive health care services to our nation’s veterans. A wide range of medical services, inter-mediate medicine, rehabilitation medi-cine, same-day surgery, primary care, and spinal cord injury care are provided at this facility. Various specialty care services as well as outpatient mental health services are also available.
NYS VETERANS HOME
Adjacent to the FDR Montrose campus, this 250-bed facility opened in the spring of 2001. It has enhanced ser-vices to area veterans. The New York State Veterans Home at Montrose is the fourth State Department nursing facility. Services are provided for vets who served in an era of conflict as defined by the State Department. Spouses and widow(ers) may also apply for admis-sion under certain guidelines.
