Designs and Templates

The list on the left hand side of the disclabel window in theEdit and Media functions is a list of designs. Designs are whatyou import tracks into, edit, and print. All designs you makeare automatically saved along with tracks that have beenimported. The design list is automatically hidden in theTemplate, Factory, and Store functions.

Frequently it is helpful to first work from a template in orderto make your design. A template is simply a design with noimported tracks assigned to it. disclabel ships with manybeautiful templates. You can use them directly, import yourtracks and print, or you can use them to form the basis ofdesigns you make.

To choose a template, first make sure you're in the Templatefunction. Examine the different template categories, and thenpreview any template by clicking to select it.

You can change the text configuration of your template byopening up the text choices: drag or double-clicking the thumbon the right if they are not initially visible. Click on each oneto see what the template looks like with a different text style.Go back to the template's default text style by holding downthe shift key, and clicking the selected text style choice. Thiswill unselect it.

Note that the act of changing the text configuration of atemplate replaces the front layer of the template with the textselected. See the section on Editing to learn more aboutlayers.

You can import a playlist to preview in the selected templateby clicking the Tracks button. This loads your playlists into the

help: importing & editing tracks

Customizing Import

Sometimes you don't want to import from just one of the main importsources: iTunes, iPhoto, iDVD, Finder, or Toast. You may wish to edit whatyou've imported, or even make your own list of tracks.

To import from your own list of tracks you can choose to import from a textfile:

Hold down the Tracks button and choose Text File as theimport option, and then choose a text file from the file dialogthat appears. The format of the text file is important. Each field should beseparated by commas like the following:

Track #,Title,Artist,Album,1,At home,Me & Mom,Birthday,2,In the Garden,With Dad,Birthday,3,The cake,All the Family,Birthday,

Note that the column titles are the same as appear in theInsert menu in disclabel's Edit function. You can choose to useas many or as few of them as you want.

Editing Tracks

Tracks can be edited when displayed in any text region. There are threepossible editing operations for tracks:

Editinginformation

Click on the piece of track information you wish to editto select it (eg. a single title you want to alter). Thecursor will change to show a menu is available. Clickagain for the menu, and choose Edit from the resultingmenu. Type or edit the text as you want. Click outsidethe text when you're done. The track information will beedited, and will update in all other parts of your designthat also use it.

help: editing

Selecting

Click on an object in the Edit function in order to select it for editing. Holddown the shift key and click to select more than one object, or to toggle theselection of a particular object.

Sometimes you can't see the selection handles of large objects. If you zoomout a bit in the edit view you can see the selection handles on images orother objects that lie partly outside of the design. Click on one of the large orsmall disc images above or below the zoom slider to fit the design back intothe editing area.

If you can't select an object you're trying to select, it might be locked (seeLocking), or other objects might be in front of it (see Arranging), or itmight be in another layer (see Layers). You can try locking objects that get inthe way and then selecting again.

Moving

Click on an object and drag the mouse to move it around. If multiple objectsare selected (via shift-click) you can move them all around at once.

Hold down the shift key while dragging to constrain the dragging to theclosest axis (horizontal or vertical).

Duplicating

As well as using copy and then paste to duplicate the selection, you can alsodrag while holding down the option key. This duplicates the objects beingdragged, leaving the selected objects in their original positions.

Sizing

To resize an object, first select it and then click and drag in one of its cornerhandles. Release the mouse button once it is the size you want.

You can resize an object proportionally, or constrain dragging to a particularaxis (whichever is closest) by holding down the shift key while you resize theobject.

You can resize an object about its center by holding down the command(Apple) key while you resize the object.

28

(Apple) key while you resize the object.

Locking

Using the Lock function from the Arrange menu can help with selectionwhen multiple objects are getting in the way. Locking a troublesome objectthat you don't want to select allows you to select only the object you want.In disclabel's templates you will find the background image is usually locked.Generally doing this or making sure your background images are in thebackground layer is good design practice.

Select the menu item Arrange-Unlock All to unlock all objects so they canbe selected and manipulated once again.

Layers

You can place your objects in one of two layers: Foreground andBackground. You will probably choose to place your text in the foregroundlayer, and your graphics in the background layer. You can only select objectsin the layer you currently have chosen. This allows you to work in theforeground without accidentally selecting objects in the background layer. Youcan also toggle the visibility of one layer by clicking the eye symbols. In somesituations turning off one layer can make your work easier to see, or canspeed up interactivity if one of the layers is very complex.

Note also that when you choose any of the predefined text layouts to apply toa template or to a design that all objects in the foreground layer are removedand replaced with the those from the foreground layer of the predefined textlayout. This is another reason that you might want to place your graphics inthe background layer.

Arranging

All objects are drawn in order (back to front). They are also selected in order(front to back). You can change whether an object lies in front of another byusing the Arrange menu. Your choices affect only the selected objects withinthe current layer. Objects in the background layer are always drawn beforethose in the foreground layer.

Rotating

You can rotate objects as well as drag them. To do this you use the followingpalette controls:

Rotate around center of designWith this palette control selected any object you drag rotates around thecenter of your design. This is great for working with discs, or moving textupside down on a design.

29

You can constrain rotation to discrete increments by holding down the shiftkey while rotating. By default the increment is 45 degrees, but this can bechanged in the Editing Preferences. You can also make a rotated duplicate ofthe selection by holding down the option key while rotating.

Don't forget to click the arrow palette control

to drag and size objects normally once again.

Image controls

Make sure you have the imageTab selected as shown. You canchange the image importapplication by holding down themouse button on the InsertImage button, and choosing animport source from the menu. You can also select a built-inimage library from this menu(disclabel NEATO Edition+ only).

Importing an Image

To import an image click:

The sheet that appears shows pictures from albums in iPhotoyou can use, or you can choose a file via the button at thebottom of the sheet.

A faster way to import a file is to drag and drop it from the Finder (or even aweb browser) into the editing area. You can also copy and paste graphics intodisclabel.

Importing a Montage

A montage is an image created frommultiple images. You can selectmultiple images in the Insert Imagedialog, and click the button MakeMontage to create a single image from

Montage to create a single image fromthe selected ones. Click Add toMontage to add further images to themontage. You can change the format ofimages in the montage with theFormat, Border, and Mask options.

This option is great for making coversfor CDs containing photographs.

You can import an image of any size and scale it in disclabel to effectively getany resolution you want. So, for example, a 1500 x 1500 image at 72dpi,when scaled across a 5" disc will yield 300 dpi, and a 750 x 750 image at72dpi will yield 150 dpi, etc.

If you import PDF line art into disclabel you can still scale and crop it. Thepicture will scale to maximize use of the resolution of the output device.

Drag the selection handles of a selected image to change its size. Don't forgetto hold down the shift key if you want to keep its proportions.

Scale or crop your image by double-clicking on the image or by first selectingthe image and clicking Crop:

Crop

The image scaling & cropping sheet will appear. Note that thisbutton won't highlight unless there is a single image selected. From this sheet you can reduce the image by dragging theslider. Click Fit original size to reduce only the resolution ofthe image (and how much disc space it requires) as you dragthe slider. Drag a rectangle over the image to choose a regionfor cropping.

Mask

Click Mask to mask the selected image with one of the shapesfrom the masking menu. You can also choose to soften theedges of the image against its mask, and make the imagegrayscale or sepia.

The last section of the Mask menu allows you to choose fromCore Image filters to apply to your image. You can combineseveral filters to get a single creative result.

Click one of these palette controls to add a line, oval, orrectangle to your design. Choose where to add your object bydragging out the desired size in the edit area.

Changing Fill or Outline Width

When you have a line, oval, or rectangle selected you canchange whether it is filled or outlined, and the width of theoutline by choosing one of the options from the Fill/Outlinecontrol.

Note that Fill does not apply to a line.

Color

To change the color of an object, first select the object by clicking it. Thecolor control updates to show the present color. Click the color control toshow the color palette and choose a new color. Note that you can also changethe opacity of a color so objects behind show through. You cannot change thecolor of an image, but you can change its opacity.

The color control works in one of two modes - connected or disconnected. When connected, its border is shown highlighted and any color you choose isapplied to the selection. When disconnected the border is light gray, and youcan only change the color displayed. In this mode you can apply a color bydragging the color swatch in the color window to the color button. This isuseful when you don't want the color of the selected object shown in thebutton to affect the color in the color window, so you can apply a color youhave chosen to multiple objects as you select them one at a time.

When text is selected internally the color you choose applies only to theselected text.

Adding and Editing Text

Click one of these palette controls to add horizontal or circulartext to your design. Choose where to add your object bydragging out the desired size in the edit area. Clicking in theedit area inserts text of the default size (especially useful foradding circular text around the edge of a disc).

You can change the circular text control to make text that isautomatically centered on the top or the bottom of your design.

Tags are used to specify where to place imported data.

Insert any of the tags at the text cursor position bychoosing from the Insert control. The tags in this controlare grayed out when there is not a current text cursorposition.

Tags that are not valid for a particular set of importeddata are displayed as empty strings.

You can use non-breaking space between tags if you don'twant a line break to come between them when formatted. To do this, instead of typing a space into your text, holddown the option key and type a space.

Formatting Text Tags

Make sure that you have a text object selected, and choose a format from the Choose Formatdrop-down menu. The text will be replaced withthe format chosen, with imported data inserted.

The options menu allows you to set options forthe selected text object

Shrink to Fit - automatically reduces the sizeof text that overruns a text object to fit into thetext object.

Oppose Text Alignment - useful for a linkedtext object. When set it makes the linked textbe aligned opposite to the original text. Thisway you can format tracks in two linked regionsacross a CD, with the left side justified to theleft, and the right side justified to the right.

Constrain to Design Edge - when unchecked, text will flow over the boundary of a design, rather than being bound by it.

Override Text Color - normally the text colorof a text object is used for drawing. Checkingthis option, and choosing a color, will use thatalternate color for the text in the selected textobject rather than the default color defined inthe text. It is useful to have two linked regionsof text be readable on very differentbackgrounds by making the text in the two

Some Recipes to Work with Text and Imported Tags

Text handling is one of disclabel's most powerful distinguishing features.disclabel's text handling is special as it can use imported track lists fromiTunes and other applications. Text can be used in such a way that importedtext from a single source can be formatted on multiple label parts to make acohesive CD/DVD package. If you specifically edit the imported text, eg. tocorrect the spelling of a track title, it can be automatically updated on allrelated parts of a design which incorporate that title. Using imported datawithin text is achieved with Tags. Tags identify data such as a track title, length, the name of the imported playlist or project, etc.

Here's a short exercise to create a new design and place text on it. Firstmake sure you're in disclabel's Edit function.

. 1 Create a new blank design via the button or by choosing New Design

from the File menu.. 2 Import a playlist by clicking the Tracks button, and choosing a playlist from

the menu that appears beneath .. 3 Choose the text palette item

. 4 Size a text area by holding down the mouse, and dragging a rectangle out inthe editing area. Release the mouse when the rectangle is the size you want.Drag the corner handles to resize the area.

Now we can edit the text: double click the default text that appears, labeledText. You can enter text by typing what you like. You can also enter tagsfrom the Text part of the editing controls, via the Insert drop-down menu.

The following steps will allow you to show every track title in your import list:

. 1 From the Insert pop-up menu choose Title. The first imported title will beinserted in the text, and will replace it, if the text was fully selected.

. 2 Press the return key after the title to move the text to the next line.

. 3 Click the text of the inserted title. Since it came from a tag, you can't alter itin part; the entitle title text will be selected.

. 4 Hold down the mouse button on the title text, and you'll get a menu thatallows you to modify this tag & its properties.

37

allows you to modify this tag & its properties.. 5 Choose Repeat Starts from the tag menu. Every track will appear.

Adding another tag to each track can also be achieved:

. 1 Click your track text to select the first track title.

. 2 Press the right arrow key. The cursor will flash just after the track title.

. 3 Choose Artist from the Insert pop-up menu. The artist of the track willappear after every track.

. 4 Press the left arrow cursor twice to move the cursor before the Artist name.Press the space key to insert a space.

. 5 Move the cursor with one of the arrow keys, or click the mouse out of thetext & a space will appear between every track title and artist.

Add the track number:

. 1 Click the mouse just before the second track title. You may need to use thearrow keys on the keyboard to get it to flash right there. In this case youdon't want the title to be selected.

. 2 Choose Track # from the Insert pop-up menu. The track number of thetrack will appear at the start of every track.

. 3 Press the space key to insert a space after.

. 4 Move the cursor with one of the arrow keys, or click the mouse out of thetext & the track number and a space will appear between every track titleand artist.

Note: we started at the beginning of the second track rather than the first, because entering text or tags at the beginning of the text will insert text priorto the first repeating tag, so the track number would not have been bound bythe initial track repetition.

Make the track titles a different typeface:

. 1 Click the text of one of the track titles to select a title.

. 2 Open the Font panel via the Font button.

. 3 Choose a new typeface. Notice that all track titles adopt the same typeface.

Make the artist names a different color:

. 1 Click the text of one of the artist names to select any artist.

. 2 Open the Color panel if it's not open by clicking the color button.

. 3 Choose a new color. Notice that all artist names adopt the same color.

Editing the name of a track:

. 1 Click the text of one of the track title you want to edit.

. 2 Hold down the mouse button on the title text, and you'll get a menu thatallows you to edit the this tag.

. 3 Choose Edit from the tag menu. The track title is automatically selected forediting.

your change and make your edits.

Note: text editing ends as soon as the cursor hits the start or the end of thetext of the tag being edited, or the cursor is moved out of that text. Editing atag in this way affects all uses of the tag within the design. Makingmodifications this way is great to fix text errors on both your disc andcovers/inserts at once.

When you begin

To print your creation, you'll need to be in the Media function. When you firstgo to the media function you are asked to customize based on for the mediayou are planning to use. Check which labels or other media you plan to use,and click OK. Note also that any new media supported since product releasecan be updated here; media definitions are automatically downloaded.

To customize the media list at any time, choose Edit Media List... from theMedia pop-up menu.

Calibration

Most printers require calibration in order to print your labels dead-center:

. 1 Press the Media function button

. 2 Select your printer from the list under Calibration:

. 3 Press the Print Page button then hit Print in the sheet that follows

. 4 Follow the instructions on the printed sheet

Using a ruler, measure from the Left to the mark and enter themeasurement in the field marked LeftUsing a ruler, measure from the Top to the mark and enter themeasurement in the field marked Top

disclabel maintains calibration settings for each printer.

The default mark calibration is at 20mm from the top and 20mm from theleft. A perfect printer will print the mark at exactly those distances. Note thatthe mark is always printed uncalibrated whatever measurements you enter.Only the labels and the label outlines are printed using the calibrateddistances you provide.

Printing

. 1 Choose the type of label paper you want to use from the Media: pop-upmenu

. 2 Drag your design from the list on the left to the slot you wish to print

. 3 Drag from one slot to another to print multiple copies

. 4 Press Print

. 5 Set any printer options (such as output quality and output media if printingdirect to CD or DVD) in the print sheet that follows and press Print

Note: If you are not a registered user, DEMO: disclabel.com will be stampedon your labels. This is so that you can create printed labels even with thedemo version. We strongly encourage you to purchase disclabel.

This is what you can drag anddrop with disclabel media:

. a drag from design to mediaslotif the design has acompatible design element itwill drop there.

. b drag from media slot tomedia slotif the same design in theoriginating slot has acompatible design element itwill drop there.

. c drag from media slot to justoutside mediaremoves design from mediaslot

When you drag a design onto a slot on the media, you can hold down theoption key to drag the design to all of the identical slots. This can save a lotof time when you have a page of 30 core labels that you want to print all thesame.

If you have only a CD defined in your design, but no core, you will find thatyou can still drag the design to a core label slot. In this instance, only thecenter part of the CD will be imaged onto the page so that you can match upa combination of core and non-full-coverage CD labels.

Direct-to-Disc Printing

On some printer models, you can print directly on CDs with a coated surface.disclabel supports many popular printers with this functionality. If your printercan do this, to print direct-to-disc you first need to select your printer modelin the Media: pop-up menu. If your printer model isn't there then you cantry a close match (for example, most of the Epson R-series printers work withthe same media choice, and the Canon iP6600D works with the same settingsas the iP4000).

When a direct-to-disc media choice is made, two additional fields appear atthe bottom of the Media controls: Printable Diameter and Hole Diameter. You can use these controls to match printing precisely to the printable CD youare using. You need to do this because some manufacturers coat CDs furtherto the edge or center than others. Without the adjustment, disclabel mightmiss printing all the way to the edge, leaving an unprinted white circlearound your design. Alternatively, disclabel could end up printing ink on the

around your design. Alternatively, disclabel could end up printing ink on theplastic portion of the CD, which is messy, and has to be wiped off.

To match the CD you are printing to:

. 1 Measure the diameter, the longest distance edge to edge, of the coated, printable area of the disc, and enter it into the Printable Diameter field.

. 2 The Hole Diameter is the diameter of the unprintable interior portion of thedisc. Measure the interior unprintable region as wide as it goes, and enterthis number into the Hole Diameter field.

To print direct-to-disc your printer will need additional settings. Some or allof these may apply:

Epson

. 1 In the Print dialog, under the Copies and Pages pop-up menu select PrintSettings, and there set the Media Type to CD/DVD before printing.

. 2 Some models (R800, R300) require creation of a Manual Feed Printer DriverVariant, and you must print using that printer selection, or the printer willreport that the wrong tray is loaded when you print.

. 3 Some newer printer drivers (eg. R1800) also require changing a page setupoption that defaults to Standard just above Media Type in Print Settings. That too needs to be set to CD/DVD, or you will see the error: paper sourcenot set correctly.

Canon

. 1 In the Print dialog, under the Copies and Pages pop-up menu select Quality& Media, and there set the Media Type to Printable CD (recommended)before printing.

Bleed

disclabel prints a 2mm bleed beyond the label perforation in all directions tocope with inconsistencies in setup accuracy and varying label types. You canchange the bleed from disclabel's Preferences:

Choose disclabel–Preferences from the menuClick the Paper buttonChange the bleed to the desired value

Problem-Solving Printing

In the Media function the display only changes based on the choice of media. In order to print the different elements of your design you must select one ofthe media that will accommodate them, and then drag your design (whichmust contain a matching design element) onto the media.

For example, to print a Jewel Case Tray Insert youmust have the CD Jewel Case Tray Insert design

42

Page 43: v3 - TextExpander | Smile 3.1.pdf · CD/DVD design element and Edit it in the Edit Work Area. If your view is set to View–Design Element: You will see the CD/DVD design element

must have the CD Jewel Case Tray Insert designelement defined in your design as follows:

CD Jewel Case Tray Insert

In the Media function choose a Jewel case paper type, such asFellowes/NEATO A4 Jewel Case Tray Liners, to print your tray insert. In orderto print the cover you must choose the appropriate cover stock for the kind ofcover you're printing. If you're using Fellowes/NEATO labels, you will need touse the CD Jewel Case Booklet design element to make your design and printto Fellowes/NEATO A4 Jewel Case Booklet labels.

If you're wanting to create a label for a slimlinejewel case, again you need to use a differentdesign element: the standard CD Jewel Case Coverwon't work as it's a different size. Select the CDSlimline Jewel Case Insert instead:

CD Slimline Jewel CaseInsert

Drag your design from the list on the left to the open slots on the media, andyou should see appear it for printing. Note you will only be able to drag adesign to a label region if the design has a compatible design elementdefined. If it doesn't, go back to Edit, choose View–All Design Elements ,then choose the associated design element, and edit it to create what youwant. After that you will be able to drag the design into matching slot in themedia.

Printing to Plain Paper[non-OEM versions of disclabel only]

You can also use disclabel to print designs to plain paper with cropmarks sothat you can score and cut your printed design to size. To use plain paper youshould choose media from the Plain Paper (A4) or Plain Paper (US)categories. None of the manufacturer paper settings print cropmarks.

help: exporting

Exporting your design

A design can be exported by dragging it from the design list to the Finder. This creates a disclabel document file, which you can utilize as you would anyother file.

You can also export your designs by choosing Export from the File menu. The default export format is disclabel, which is the format saved bydragging (above). Alternatively you can choose to export your design as aPDF, TIFF or JPEG image file. In those formats you can specify the size, andin the bitmap formats (all but PDF) you can specify the output resolution inpixels per inch. 300 is good enough for most current imaging devices. Theresulting file is an image of the currently selected design and part.

Note that the disclabel format holds all parts of a design including CD, andmedia boxes.

help: LightScribe

LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling is an exciting disc labeling technology thatenables you to burn CD and DVD labels simply by flipping the discs over andputting them back in the same disc drive that burned your data. LightScribetechnology combines the CD or DVD drive of your computer with speciallycoated discs and SmileOnMyMac's disclabel CD/DVD labeling software toproduce precise, silkscreen-quality, iridescent labels. With LightScribe, yourdisc is your label. It’s the no-hassle way to create awesome-looking labels forall your music mix CDs, digital video or photo archives, and for any businessapplication.

disclabel can be used to label LightScribe media with a LightScribe compliantmedia labeler.

Your LightScribe drive should be turned on when you launch disclabel, ordisclabel will not recognize it.

Printing with LightScribe

To print, you must be in disclabel's Media function. Choose one of theLightScribe label options as your choice of label from the Media list:

LightScribe ContentLabel

Covers an area large enough to hold a title and tracktitles

LightScribe Full Label Covers the entire printable surfaceLightScribe Title Label Covers an area large enough to hold a title

NOTE: LightScribe provides these three different label sizes (also termedmodes) to choose from depending upon how much information and creativeexpression you want each label to have. The label burn time will generallyincrease as more of the disc is covered.

Drag the design you want to print from the column on the left onto the labeldisplay if it does not already appear, then click Print. The LightScribe printdialog will automatically generate a preview for you, suited to the media inthe selected drive. You can adjust the contrast of the final label with theContrast selector. To print your label, click Print in the LightScribe dialog, and the label will be printed to the LightScribe media. A progress bar andtimer shows how long it will be before printing is complete.

Contrast Levels

LightScribe provides three different contrast levels for you to choose fromwhen labeling your discs. The label burn time will increase from Draft toNormal to Best.

45

Draft Provides the fastest burn time with lowest contrast. Use for utility labels.Normal Provides moderate burn time with good contrast. Use for professional

labels.Best Provides the sharpest contrast with the longest burn time. Use for

important business transactions, gifts and personal treasures.

Label Print Times

The label print time varies with the amount of information contained on thelabel, the placement of the information on the label, the contrast levelselected, the LightScribe disc used and the drive. The LightScribe systemburns the image in concentric, circular rings from the inside diameter to theoutside diameter of the label surface. Rings that contain no image data areskipped. A simple, circular title, such as a LightScribe Title Label, isaccomplished most quickly because the information is limited to a circularrings close to the inside diameter. The density of the rings is adjustedaccording to the contrast level selection so higher contrast is achievedthrough more densely packaged rings. The LightScribe disc itself and thedrive compatibilities also influence the label burn time. You can alwayscomplete other tasks on your computer while a label is burning.

Setting up a Label for Specific LightScribe Media Dimensions

disclabel helps you to design for best LightScribe output by offering pre-builtLightScribe-optimized templates, and also the ability to directly set the textformatting radii for a CD/DVD label.

To choose a LightScribe template, from the Template function, selectLightScribe Templates as the Category, and then choose one of thetemplates offered. There are blank templates as a starting point for each ofthe specific label types listed above, and also text templates for each of thelabel types, you can then augment and edit, as you would any other disclabeltemplate.

If you already have a label you wish to optimize for one of the LightScribelabel sizes, or, if you wish to create one from scratch, you can set the textformatting radii yourself. In the Edit function, click the Align tab, and fromthe hole size selector, choose Other Boundary. The resulting dialog allowsyou to choose a custom boundary size, or a LightScribe specific label size. The only way in which this affects your label is by constraining text regionclipping and wrapping. You will want to use this with most of the disclabeltemplates to ensure that text in rectangular blocks correctly fits within theconstraints of the LightScribe media.

LightScribe Media Identification

The LightScribe system requires the use of LightScribe-enabled discs.LightScribe uses control features in the center/hub of the disc to identifymedia as LightScribe media. If your system does not seem to recognize themedia as LightScribe media, take the following steps.

Make sure the disc is a LightScribe-enabled disc. LightScribe media will havethe LightScribe logo in the inner hub area. There will also be visible controlfeatures inside, and adjacent to, the coated label area.

features inside, and adjacent to, the coated label area.Make sure the disc is properly oriented in the drive. The label side, whichcontains a special coating, should be face down in the drive.Clean the center area (hub) of the disc. Use a lint-free cloth to wipe the hubarea and remove any dirt or smudges that may be covering the controlfeatures. If these steps do not fix the problem, try another LightScribe disc.

Track Formatting

You can use a non-breaking space to keep the track number with the title.Enter a non-breaking space with the option key+space. You may want to puta standard space before the track number if you do this in order to avoid thetrack text itself being split within a word in tight areas. For example: space«Track #»option+space«Title»

Special Keys:

Shift - constrain proportions with any of the object tools; create squares andcircles with the rectangle and oval tools

Option - copy object

Command (Apple key) - resizes from the center rather than the opposingcorner when dragging out a corner of an object

Return - when a text object is selected by clicking once on its text, or bydragging over it, pressing the return key selects the text internally, and letsyou edit it with the keyboard

Design Hints:

Option-drag during rotate around circle - use this with shape objects tocreate fun regularly-shaped patterns rotated around the label

Image transparency - select an image and press the Apply Color button, thenset the opacity to your desired level

Colorizing an image - add a rectangle in front of the image you wish tocolorize. Press the apply color button, and set the opacity of the rectanglebelow 100%, and change its color. The image beneath appears to becolorized with the transparent hue of the rectangle in front. We often use thistechnique to ghost out part of an image behind text with a white transparentrectangle. This makes the text easier to read.
