C75/J75 SIQA REGISTRATION / ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENT

Purpose This document explains the alignment correction procedure using the new Simple Image Quality

Adjustment (SIQA) tool.

Past products required a complex and time consuming procedure for correcting misalignment for both

Fast Scan and Slow Scan directions, Lead Edge/Side Edge Skew, enlargement/reduction ratio for both

directions, and squareness.

SIQA simplifies this operation and can be completed in approximately 5 minutes per media profile.

Environment - Prerequisites - Printer

- Client PC (could be installed on EFI DFE) with SIQA application installed. (OS: Windows with Win7,

Vista or XP)

- Black background sheet pattern – (PDF file) used as a background for scanning sample charts.

Procedure

Preparation 1. Record the IP address:

• For FFPS DFE Server – Press the Machine Status button and record the IPv4

address.

• For EFI DFE standalone server - The IP address required is the EFI IP address and

can be found on the configuration sheet OR by accessing the Device Center in the

General folder inside the Command Workstation.

• For EFI Integrated server - The IP address required is the EFI server IP address and

can be found by printing the configuration sheet (powering on and off the IOT will

force the EFI Integrated to submit that configuration sheet).

2. If a Black Background Sheet is not available, print the .PDF File titled Black Background Sheet

located on the SIQA install folder as follows.

• XNA market - print duplex on 11”x17” media, gsm is not important but higher gsm

will result in a longer tool life.

• XE market - print duplex on A3 media, gsm is not important but higher gsm will

result in a longer tool life.

7. Select Auto Alignment Adjustment for alignment correction.

8. Select the target tray for the adjustment.

9. Set the area coverage if needed.

Important note: Area coverage can be one of the factors to change the alignment. To make the adjustment at a specific area

coverage level, set the value from “1” to “10” here. The higher the value, the higher the area coverage.

Normally, a value 1 is sufficient. Side 1 and side 2 can be set independently.

10. Select the number of sample sheets to be printed. NOTE: With multiple samples, the software will use

the average values for adjustment and so the variation between the sheets will be reduced.

Important note: For 8.5x11 (A4)– the paper needs to be SEF orientation.

11. Select Print to print the sample chart.

12. To correct the misalignment, scan the 4 sides of sample chart, lead edge and trail edge for each

front and back side as displayed on the UI.

Correct position of the test print is as follow:

A) NOT against the registration edge (minimum of

20mm) and not skewed more than 15 degrees.

B) Cover the pattern with a black background paper for

contrast.

A – Ensure there is space between edge and pattern

B – Cover with black paper and align the white mark with the test print mark

The order of scanning in not important – the color-coded box helps the user keep track of which

side has been scanned.

13. Scan each of 4 sides per UI screen instructions.

14. If using multiple samples, repeat the scanning process.

15. After 4 scans, the Exit button will appear on the UI. Selecting Exit, completes the scanning

process.

16. Remove the test print and black background sheet from the scanner. Select Confirm to send the

data to the Printer / DMP folder.

The scanned data are saved into the Mail Box on the C75/J75 DMP controller. The saved data will be

read and analyzed later by the 3rd Party PC.

AT THE 3rd PARTY PC or at the EFI DFE Standalone server

1. Start up the application by clicking SIQA shortcut on the desktop and log in as a key operator.

NOTE: If the tool fails to open – see the Troubleshooting section.

2. Select Alignment Adjustment from the SIQA pull-down menu.

3. You may have to enter/confirm the IP address of the Printer (100.100.100.101)

NOTE: If the SIQA tool is communicating to a printer using FFPS DFE or Integrated EFI DFE – enter

the IP address found on the IOT screen.

4. Select Start. The scanned image data in the Mail Box will be acquired. The image data will be

analyzed and the adjustment values will be automatically calculated.

OK when done.

Note:

It is recommended to include the tray name, paper size, or paper type, at naming, so you can see that this

adjustment is made on which tray and paper.

o If the alignment is ok you are done.

o If the alignment is not ok, repeat the procedure.

USER procedure NOTE: The alignment profile is assigned by the user/operator when loading the paper in the specific

tray. The job sent from the DFE does not need to specify the profile – just the tray with the media

needed.

1. Open the tray where the profile is to be assigned, load it and then close it, a screen will appear.
