[57] Abstract:

To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording disk that can contribute to increasing the recording density by improving the S/N ratio in high density recording without causing an increase in DC noise, degradation in thermal stability, and degradation in recording capability, and a method of manufacturing such disk. A magnetic disk 10 for use in perpendicular magnetic recording, has at least a magnetic recording layer on a substrate 1. The magnetic recording layer is composed of ferromagnetic layer 5 of such a granular structure containing silicon (Si) or an oxide of silicon (Si) between crystal grains containing cobalt (Co), a stacked layer 7 having a first layer containing cobalt (Co) or a Co alloy and a second layer containing palladium (Pd) or platinum (Pt), and spacer layer (6) interposed between the ferromagnetic layer (5) and the stacked layer 7. After forming the ferromagnetic layer (5) on the substrate 1 by sputtering in an argon gas atmosphere, the stacked layer 7 is formed by sputtering in an argon gas atmosphere at a gas pressure lower than that used when forming the ferromagnetic layer 5.

[57] Abstract:

A highly efficient and reliable reproduced signal evaluation method and an optical drive using that method in which assuming that the number of 2T's appearing successively in a predetermined evaluation bitstream is i, the evaluation bitstream is divided into a main bitstream (5 + 2i) long and sub bitstream at the ends of the main bitstream. The check process to determine whether a predetermined evaluation bitstream is included in the binarized bitstreams is replaced with a main bitstream agreement check. This can prevent an increase in the circuit size. At the same time, by separately summing up for each main bitstream the calculated results of Euclidean distance between the reproduced signal and the target signal corresponding to the evaluation bitstream, the size of an evaluation summing circuit can be reduced.

The present eyewear includes a pair of lenses, a pair of releaseable connectors connected to respective inner ends of the lenses, a pair of temples pivotally connected to respective outer ends of the lenses and a rigid strap connected between rear ends of the temples. The strap is generally U-shaped having substantially parallel legs connected to an arc-shaped base, the substantially parallel legs being connected to rear ends of the temples and when worn, the arc-shaped base extends along the back of a user's head. The strap at its U-shaped base is provided with a telescoping segment for selectively altering the length of the arc-shaped base for altering the spacing between the strap's substantially parallel legs to adjust the strap for varying widths of a user's head. The inner ends of the lenses are releasably secured together by connectors. In use, the lenses are separated from each other and pivoted outwardly, the strap wrapped around the back of a user's head and adjusted for size The lenses are then pivoted towards each other and secured together in front of the user's eyes. The lenses are instantly separable for easily putting on or taking off the eyewear, but they are instantly connectable together for a secure and accurate fit.

[57] Abstract:

A feeder for a machine for canning tuna and similar food products includes a feeding device with conveyor belts (1, 2), said feeding device being suitable to feed tuna loins (T) towards the conveyor belt (B) of the canning machine and to shape the loins (T) into loins (T') having a preset thickness, an outlet mouth (6) located at the end of the belts (1, 2) and through which the loins (T') having a preset thickness are fed, a knife (5) adjacent to the mouth (6) and suitable to separate the portion of loin (T') projecting through the latter so as to obtain a tuna pat having preset thickness and width, a mobile wall (7) located opposite the outlet mouth (6) and having a width at least equal thereto, the distance from the mouth (6) to the mobile wall (7) corresponding to the maximum width of the tuna pat to be formed, as well as a mobile shovel (8); suitable to move the newly-formed tuna pat perpendicularly in the direction of motion of the conveyor belt (B) of the canning machine, until it reaches a preset distance from the last previously-formed tuna pat (P) arranged on the conveyor belt (B). Such a feeder allows the canning machine to obtain tuna cakes with premium quality appearance and constant weight, thanks to the fact that the tuna is not damaged by rough manual treatments and is fed in a continuous way with substantially constant characteristics.
