Dear Readers,

Read the story of “Little Boy’s Meeting with God” which helps you to know about happiness in

our life.

There once was a little boy who wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived,

so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer and started his journey. When he

had gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was sitting in the park just staring at some

pigeons.

The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root

beer when he noticed that the old lady looked hungry, so he offered her a Twinkie. She gratefully

accepted it and smiled at him. Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he

offered her a root beer. Once again she smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all

afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word.

As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was, and he got up to leave but before he had gone

more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman and gave her a hug. She gave

him her biggest smile ever. When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his

mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, “What did you do today that

made you so happy?” He replied, “I had lunch with God.” But, before his mother could respond, he

added, “You know what? She’s got the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen!”

Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the

look of peace on her face and he asked, “Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?”

She replied, “I ate Twinkies in the park with God.” But, before her son responded, she added, “You

know, he’s much younger than I expected.”

Moral:God is everywhere. We just need to share our happiness and make others smile to feel him.

Hello Vvians!

This month article is about New Year Resolution.

10 Tips to Help You Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

Chances are at some time in your life you’ve made a New Year’s resolution — and then broken it. This year, stop the cycle of

resolving to make change and then not following through. If your resolution is to take better care of yourself and get healthy, you will

have a much better year if your resolution sticks. Here are 10 tips to help you get started.

1.Be Realistic

The surest way to fall short of your goal is to make your goal unattainable. For instance, resolving to NEVER eat your favorite food

again is setting you up to fail. Instead, strive for a goal that is attainable, such as avoiding it more often than you do now.

2. Plan Ahead

Don’t make your resolution on New Year’s Eve. If you wait until the last minute, it will be based on your mindset that particular day.

Instead, it should be planned well before December 31 arrives.

3. Outline Your Plan

Decide how you will deal with the temptation to skip that exercise class or have that piece of cake. This could include calling on a

friend for help, practicing positive thinking and self-talk, or reminding yourself how your “bad” will affect your goal.

4. Make a “Pros” and “Cons” List

It may help to see a list of items on paper to keep your motivation strong. Develop this list over time, and ask others to contribute to

it. Keep your list with you and refer to it when you need help keeping your resolve.

5. Talk About It

Don’t keep your resolution a secret. Tell friends and family members who will be there to support your resolve to change yourself

for the better or improve your health. The best-case scenario is to find a buddy who shares your New Year’s resolution and motivate

each other.

6. Reward Yourself

This doesn’t mean that you can eat an entire box of chocolates if your resolution is to eat a better diet. Instead, celebrate your success

by treating yourself to something you enjoy that doesn’t contradict your resolution. If you have been sticking to your promise to eat

better, for example, reward yourself with new fitness clothing or by going to a movie with a friend.

7. Track Your Progress

Keep track of each small success. Short-term goals are easier to keep, and each small accomplishment will help keep you motivated.

Instead of focusing on losing 30 pounds, focus on losing the first five. Keep a food journal to help you stay on track, and reward

yourself for each five pounds lost.

VV TIMES DECEMBER 2015 2

Page 3: V v times dec 2015

8. Don ’t Beat Yourself Up

Obsessing over the occasional slip won’t help you achieve your goal. Do the best you can each day, and take one day at a time.

9. Stick to It

Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity to become a habit and six months for it to become part of your personality. It

won’t happen overnight, so be persistent and patient!

10. Keep Trying

If you have totally run out of steam when it comes to keeping your resolution by mid-February, don’t despair. Start over again!

Recommit yourself for 24 hours. You can do anything for 24 hours. The 24-hour increments will soon build on each other and,

before you know it, you will be back on track.

But we haven’t heard it all yet! When we think we’ve gotenough, Nature comes back with new ways to surprise us!

Potent Germicide

Lemon juice is so acidic that germs can’t survive it. In fact, the pH of lemon juice is 2, compared to the pH of gastric acid, which is 1.This meansthat

lemon juice is almost as acidic as the hydrochloric acid present in the stomach, though it might not be as bubbling. And germs tend to develop in an

alkaline environment, which makes lemon juice their primary enemy!

Efficient Surface Cleaner

The germicidal capacity of lemon juice is one of the reasons why it is commonly used as a surface cleaner. But in addition to that, pure lemon juice

can be used to polish surfaces and restore their brightness and shine. Rub your cooking pots with a combination of lemon juice and baking soda, and

they will shine as if they were new. Wipe your tables and wooden furniture with lemon juice, and they will become as lustrous as on the very first

day!

Clear Skin

We already know how lemon contributes to our health (with its provision of Vitamin C, mainly). But how does it contribute to giving us a clearer and

more beautiful skin? In fact, Vitamin C is an antioxidant that works at all levels. When it comes to the skin, it prevents cell damage and promotes cell

renewal. This contributes to a decrease in skin blemishes, black spots and facial wrinkles, for instance.

Lemon oils for Mind Relaxation

A part from the physical relaxation that lemon essential oils provide, lemon oil also has calming effects on the nervous system and provides relief in

case of anxiety, exhaustion, tiredness, nervousness and tension.

Lemon Peel to Clear up Eczema

With its anti-inflammatory action, lemon peel is able to manage and diminish an eczematous reaction. The lemon essential oil could also work.

How To Stay Healthy In WinterCoat Your Throat

Clinical studies have shown that spraying your throat with a mouth spray, can reduce the risk of getting a cold and shorten its duration. The spray creates a thin protective film with an enzyme to break down disease-related proteins.

Vitamin D Comes Before C

We've always been told to dose up on vitamin C if the chills come on, but D3 may be better for cold and flu protection says Dr David Mantle, medical adviser at Pharma Nord."Studies in Finland and Japan showed people with adequate vitamin D were less likely to get respiratory illnesses," he says. This could be because vitamin D supports our production of anti-viral and antibacterial proteins. Take an oil-based vitamin D supplement.

Have A Party

Keeping yourself to yourself might seem wise, but researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, US, found people who met regularly with family, friends, workmates and neighbours had better immunity against a cold. So send an invite (unless your friends have flu!).

Swap Orange For A Cuppa

"While they provide a tiny amount of vitamin C and some hydration, orange and other fruit juices contain harmful sugars that stifle our immune defenses," says Dr Mantle."Stick to water and herbal teas to stay hydrated." Chamomile tea is a good choice.Researchers from Imperial College London found people who drank it had high levels of hippurate (a compound associated with antibacterial activity) and this could explain why it seems to help fight infections.

Have A (civilised) Row With Your Other Half

Bottling things up can be bad for your immunity. Researchers from the University of California found couples who had a constructive argument about a problem in their marriage boosted their production of infection-fighting blood cells. But play fair -the same researchers found people who argue nastily (regularly using insults and sarcasm) had fewer virus-fighting cells.

Feed Your Gut's Good Bacteria

"As much as 70% of your immune system is in the gut," says GP Dr Ellie Cannon. The good bacteria in there, such as bifidobacteria, helps keep yourimmune system primed to fight infection. She adds, "Clinical studies from Reading University found that taking a bimuno prebiotic showed an increase in beneficial bifidobacteria and had a direct positive effect on the immune system in the elderly." The prebiotic acts as food for your good bacteria, helping it thrive.

Get A Pet

A study from Wilkes University in the US found stroking a dog for 18 minutes led to participants producing a surge in antibodies that fight infection.Other research has found that babies brought up with pets have fewer colds and ear infections too.

Herbal Help

Researchers pitted the herbal remedy echinacea against antiviral medication Tamiflu (oseltamivir) in a new clinical trial with surprising results. "We found Echinaforce Hot Drink to be as effective as oseltamivir in terms of shortening the duration of flu and reducing complications," says Dr Peter Fisher of the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine. "Despite different modes of action, both block virus dissemination and development."

Mushrooms Are Magic

"Studies show that mushrooms, most notably the shiitake which has been used in eastern cultures for centuries as a healing remedy , have the ability to increase the immune system's defenses," says nutritionist Rob Hobson. "What's more, these clever little things can make vitamin D (a nutrient associated with a strong immune system) from the sun."

Simply place your mushrooms in direct sunlight (preferably upside down so the gills face upwards) for an hour or two before eating for a supercharged source of vit D.

Eat Whiffy Veg

The sulphuric compounds that give garlic, onions, leeks and chives their pungent taste and smell are packed with antibodies to fight infection.

Hug A Tree

"Research has found people who spend time in parks and forests exhibit an increased function of the immune system," says Ella. "Plants emit phytoncide chemicals designed to protect them from insects and disease. When we breathe these in, our bodies increase the number and activity of white blood cells that fight viruses."

Incubator Weak Baby to IT Whiz Kid

Born to a Tamil family in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, India. K.Visalini was a wonder child at all times. Visalini was born to Mr. S. Kalyana

Kumaraswamy & Mrs. S. Sethu Ragamaliga. She was a weak baby and was in incubator for 10 long days and was also a child with tongue tie.

Majority of doctors had given up stating that Visalini will never speak in her life which made her parents depressed and disheartened. After similar

feedback from numerous doctors, Visalini’s parents had given up hope until they met Doctor who suggested her mother to help the child by

talking to her for 20 hours every day. He quoted to her mother “Talk to your child and the world will talk about her” and this theory did create

wonders for Visalini. After 8 months of continuous efforts of her mother, baby Visalini finally spoke her first word on 16th February, 2001 and

stunned everyone who once said there was no future for this child. She began to speak at the age of 9 months and by the time she was one year old,

she recited slokas at local temples, astonishing everyone around.

Her mother used to teach her a lot of things in Tamil which completely shaped her mind and sharpened her retaining capabilities. At the age of 2

1/2 years, she was way more intelligent and confident than any other child and was brilliant enough to deliver her first stage program at her home

town. Nearly 1000 people were present in the program who kept on asking general knowledge questions to her and back to back she answered them

all. Her mother was overwhelmed at her daughter’s ability of retaining things and answering questions quickly and at ease. When she was 3 years

old, Visalini has received an appreciation from the President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Avl,

Doctor suggested Visalini to take an IQ Test so that her extra ordinary mental ability and growth could be known. She took the IQ Test 5 times

which were done by different doctors every time, so as to be sure about the results. Surprisingly, all the doctors had given the same result i.e. An IQ

of 225.
