organized „Quiz it Up‟ for the students of I year B.Tech. It had three rounds of fun quizzing

where the winners were given gift vouchers.

National Level Mathematical Competition

A national competition that puts intelligence, speed and teamwork to test was conducted

by „Sankhya‟, the Mathematics club of the school in association with VistaMind Education.

VistaMind Education is a pioneer in conducting this competition amongst top engineering and

degree colleges in India. Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to work with numbers

rapidly and accurately are skills that are in great demand. These skills are a part of the

recruitment test of major corporates in the fields of IT and Finance. They are also a part of

major postgraduate entrance exams like GATE, CAT, etc. More than 500 B.Tech. students took

part in the first round conducted in Amriteswari Hall and Sudhamani Hall on 8th October, 2013.

Based on the performance of the first round, twelve teams (a team of two) were selected to the

second round, which was an Audio-Visual round and was conducted on 15th October, 2013 in

the Krishna Hall. Based on the performance of the second round, seven teams have won cash

prize of Rs. 1500/- each. These seven teams will represent Amrita School of Engineering,

Bengaluru in City Finals round to be held during January, 2014.

A workshop was organized by Dr. N. S. Murty with the title “Challenges and Job

Opportunities in SoC Design” on 25th October, 2013 in the campus. The workshop was

conducted by ChipEdge. The workshop was arranged for the B.Tech. & M.Tech. students

and the faculty members of the department. The workshop focused on how the rapid

increase in design complexity has presented many challenges to designers working on

system-on-a-chip (SoC) designs. This sharp increase is driven by several factors, a major

one being the exponential rise in the number of IP blocks integrated in a single SoC and the

difficulty in connecting those IP blocks, challenges in functional verification, controlling

chip power consumption, design for testability (DFT) challenges, physical design challenges

etc. The workshop also focused on how these design challenges have created job

opportunities for VLSI Engineers and what kind of skills one has to acquire, to get into these

jobs.

Ms. V. Priya Darshini joined the Department as „Assistant

Professor‟ on 7th October, 2013. She is a post-graduate - M.E.

(Applied Electronics) - from Anna University, Chennai. She

has also registered for Ph.D. in „Medical Image Processing‟

under Anna University, Chennai. She has a teaching

experience of about 8 years from various engineering colleges

in Tamilnadu.

A technical quiz was organized by ECIF on 5th October 2013 at ASE, Bengaluru. Around 60

students from all the semesters of ECE and EIE participated in the quiz with each team

comprising of 2 students. The quiz paper had twenty technical questions based on
