WHY INTERVIEW?
WELL, HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR PRODUCT IS
USEFUL & USABLE?WITHOUT THESE YOUR TARGET USERS WON'T SPEND THEIR TIME AND/OR MONEY USING IT!
IT'S THE MOST NEGLECTED ASPECT OF APP PRODUCTION.
BECAUSE IT'S HARD!
HOW?QUESTIONING TECHNIQUES
Thank the user for their valuable time!
Explain that you're testing the product, not them. There is no "wrong answer".
Be casual and conversational.
Have a list of points you want to learn about.
Ask the user to verbalize their thought process.
Where possible, cover your points with observations.
Have questions prepared to cover the areas that aren't covered naturally.
Don't number them. You could get fixated on the next point instead of digging deeper.
Try to memorize core points.
Ask open ended questions - Who, What, Where, When, Why, How!
Try not to ask yes/no questions.
Wait, both for initial answer formation and elaboration.
"What does this button do?"
"Well, what would you expect to happen if you tapped it?"
