“HOOK, LINE and SINKER” By Ricky McNiel, Reporter

We had another great time on Amistad this month and the participation in our tournaments was excellent considering the hot

weather. The fishing was better than average for most of the anglers with a lot of fish caught each day; however there was only one

bass brought to the scales over the weekend that weighed in at over 5 pounds. That fish was caught by one of my grandsons,

Chance Easley, and it enabled him to win his first tournament with the club as well as claim his first Big Bass of the Day pot.

Chance was fishing with his dad, Jim, and his other grandfather, Jack when he caught the fish. Donnie and I had another one of

my grandsons, Rett Miller, fishing with us and he caught a lot of fish all day long. Both of the boys really enjoyed their chance to

fish with the club. I had two other grandsons fish with us on Friday, Carter and Linden Miller, and they caught a lot of fish. It

was a very successful grandson weekend for my family. There were several reports of large fish that were hooked over the week-

end but nobody was able to land any of them but Chance. I know that in our boat, Isaac Rodriguez, had a solid 6 pounder on and

it was even taking drag, but when we went to net the fish it simply came off. Isaac was sick but he was able to claim second place in

spite of the lost fish. There is a lot of grass coming on real strong on the lake and fishing should continue to improve if you can

locate the grass. The meal on Saturday night was excellent again and many thanks to everyone that helped with the event. Special

thanks goes to Patsy Surber for providing the wonderful desserts. I would also like to thank Jim and Gail Criswell for donating

two gallons of Yamalube for our drawings at the tournaments. Also, I want to thank them for getting my boat in after the tourna-

ment on Sunday and fixing all that I managed to tear up over the weekend. I would like to thank Gonzalo Nandin for donating his

winning check back to the club as well as a rod to be given away at the banquet. Good luck to everyone on Amistad in August.
