A Song Of Love Is A Sad Song

A Song Of Love Is A Sad Song"Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-lo"

A song of love is a sad song.Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-lo.

A song of love is a song of woe,Don't ask me how I know.

A song of love is a sad song,For I have loved and it's so,

I sit at the window and watch the rainHi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-lo.

Tomorrow I'll probably love again,Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-lo.

After The Ball Is Over

A little maiden climbed an old man's knee,Begged for a story, "Do, Uncle, Please.""Why are you lonely, why do you roam?

Have you no sweetheart, have you no home?"

"I had a sweetheart, long long agoWhy we were not wed, you soon

shall know. List to my story, I'll tell it all.I broke her heart, pet, after the ball."

After the ball is over, just at the break of dawn,After the dance is ended,

and all the stars are gone. Many the heart that's aching,

if you could read them all. Many the fond hope that's vanished,

after the ball.

Her eyes were shining, in the big ballroom,Softly the organ was playing a tune.

There stood my sweetheart, my love, my ownWishing some water, I left the room.

When I returned, pet, there stood a manKissing my sweetheart, as lovers can.

Down went the glass, pet, broke in the fall,Just as my heart was, after the ball.

After the ball is over….

Many years have gone by; I have not wed -True to my sweetheart, though she is dead.

She tried to tell me, tried to explain.I would not listen, pleading in vain.

One day a letter came from this man.He was her brother, the letter ran.

That's why I'm lonely, no home at allI broke her heart, pet, after the ball.

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the soundThat saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost, but now I'm found. Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to feelAnd grace my fears relieved.

How precious did that grace appearThe hour I first believed.

Chorus

When we've been there ten thousand yearsBright shining as the sun,

We've no less days to sing God's praiseThen when we first begun.

American Pie

A long long time agoI can still remember

How that music used to make me smileAnd i knew that if i had one chance

I could make those people danceAnd maybe they'd be happy for awhile

Did you write the book of loveAnd do you have faith in God above

If the bible tells you soNow do you believe in rock n roll

And can music save your mortal soulAnd can it teach me how to dance real slow

Well i know that your in love with himCause i saw you dancing in the gym

You both kicked off your shoesAnd i did Gods rhythm and blues

I was a lonely teenage brock of luckWith a great carnation and a pick up truck

But i knew that i was out of luckThe day the music died

I started singing

Bye bye miss. american pieDrove my chevy to the levy

But the levy was dryAnd good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye

singingThis will be the day that i dieThis will be the day that i die

I met a girl who sang the bluesAnd i asked her for some happy newsBut she just smiled and turned awayWell i went down to the sachet storeWhere i heard the music years before

But the man there said the music wouldn't playWell now in the streets the children screamed

The lovers cried and the poets dreamedBut not a word was spokenThe church bells all broken

And the three men i admire the most,The father, son, and the holy ghost

They caught the last train for the coastThe day the music died

I started singing

Any Dream Will Do

I close my eyesDraw back the curtain

To see for certainWhat I thought I knew

Far far awaySomeone was weeping

But the world was sleepingAny dream will do.

And in the EastThe world was waking

Still hesitatingAny dream will do

“A crash of drums, a flash of light,My golden oat flew out of sight,The colours faded into darkness,

I was left alone"

May I returnTo the beginning

The light is dimmingAny dream will do.Any dream will do.

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgotAnd never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgotAnd days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne my dear,For auld lang syne

we'll take a cup o'kindness yetFor auld lang syne.

And here's a hand, my trusty friend,And gi'es a hand o'thine;

We'll take a cup of kindness yet,For auld lang syne.

Banks of the Ohio

I asked my love to take a walkTo take a walk, just a little walk

Down beside where the waters flowDown by the banks of the Ohio

And only say that you'll be mineIn no other's arms entwine

Down beside where the waters flowDown by the banks of the Ohio

I held a knife against her brestAs into my arms she pressed

She cried, "Oh, Willie, don't murder me,I'm not prepared for eternity"

I started home 'tween twelve and oneI cried, "My God! what have I done ?

Killed the only woman I lovedBecause she would not be my bride"

Beautiful brown eyes

Beautiful beautiful brown eyesBeautiful beautiful brown eyesBeautiful beautiful brown eyesI'll never love blue eyes again

Willie I love you my darlingLove you with all my heart

Tomorrow we might have been marriedBut rambling has kept us apart

Down through the barroom he staggeredAnd fell down at the door

The last words that I heard him utterI'll never see brown eyes no more

Seven long years I've been marriedWish I was single again

A woman mever knows her troublesUntil she has married a man

Blackboard of My Heart

When I was young and went to school They taught me how to write

To take the chalk and make a mark And hope it turns out right

Well that's the way it is with love And what you did to me I wrote it so you'd know

That I was yours eternally

(Chorus) But my tears have washed I love you

From the blackboard of my heart It's too late to clean the slate

And make another start I'm satisfied the way things are

Although we're far apart My tears have washed I love you from

The blackboard of my heart

If you'd been true the way you should And not have gone astray

These tears would not have fallen down And washed the words away

No need to talk, 'cause if the chalk Should write those words again It will be for someone

else Not things that might have been

(Chorus)

Blanket on the Ground

Come and look out through the windowThat big old moon is shining downTell me now, don’t it remind you

Of a blanket on the ground

Remember back when love first found usWe’d go slippin out of town

And we’d love beneath the moonlightOn a blanket on the ground

I’ll get the blanket from the bedroomAnd we’ll go walking once again

To that spot down by the riverWhere our sweet love first began

Just because we are marriedDon’t mean we cant slip around

So lets walk out though the moonlightAnd lay the blanket on the ground

Oh rememebr how excitedWe used to get when love was young

That old moon was our best buddyWe couldn’t wait for night to comeNow you know you still excite me

I know you love me like I amJust once more I wish you’ll love me

On a blanket on the ground

Blue Eyes crying in the rain

In the twilight here I see her, blue eyes cryin' in the rain.

When we kissed goodbye and parted,I knew we'd never meet a-gain.

Love is like a dyin' ember, only memories re-main.

Through the ages I'll remember, blue eyes cryin in the rain.

Someday when we meet up yonder,we'll stand hand in hand a-gain.In a land that knows no parting,

blue eyes cryin' in the rain.Blue eyes cryin' in the rain.

Bobby Magee

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train

And I's feelin' near as faded as my jeansBobby thumbed a diesel down

just before it rainedIt took us all the way to New Orleans

I pulled my harpoon out ofmy dirty red bandana

I's playin' soft while Bobby sang the blues, yeahWith them wipers slappin' time,

and bobby clapping hands we finallySang every song that driver knew, yeah

Freedom's just another wordfor nothin' left to lose

Nothin' ain't worth nothin',but it is freeAnd feelin' good was easy,

Lord, when Bobby sang the blues You know, feelin' goodwas good enough for me

Good enough for me and Bobby McGee

From the Kentucky coal mineto the California sun

Bobby shared the secrets of my soulStanding right beside me lord, through everything we done

and every night kept me from the coldOne day up near Salinas, oh Lord,

I let him slip awayHe's lookin' for that home

and I hope he finds itBut I'd trade all o' my tomorrows

for one single yesterday Holdin' Bobby's body next to mine

Freedom's just another wordfor nothin' left to lose

Nothin', that's all that Bobby left meBut if feelin' good was easy, Lord,

when Bobby sang the bluesHey, feelin' good was good enough for me,

mm-hmmGood enough for me

and my Bobby McGee

Bottle of Wine

Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine,When you gonna let me get sober?Leave me alone, let me go home,

Let me go back and start over.

Ramblin' around this dirty old town,Singing for nickels and dimes.

Times gettin' rough, I ain't got enough,To buy me a bottle of wine.

Rambling around, this dirty old townSinging for nickels and dimes

Out in the street I tell the people I meetTo buy me a bottle of wine

Bottle of wine, fruit of the vineWhen you gonna let me get sober

Bottle of wine fruit of the vineLet me go home and start, over.

Pain in my head, I got bugs in my bed,My pants are so old that they shine

Out in the street I tell the people I meetTo buy me a bottle of wine

Bye-Bye Blackbird

Black bird, black bird singing the blues all dayRight outside of my door

Black bird black bird who do you sit and say"There's no sinshine in store"

All thru the winter you hung aroundNow I begin to feel homeward bound

Black bird, black bird gotta be on my wayWhere there's sunshine galore.

Blue bird, blue bird calling me far awayI've been longing for you

Blue bird blue bird what do I hear you say"Skies are turning to blue"

I'm like a flower that's fading hereWhere ev'ry hour is one long tear

Blue bird, blue bird this is my lucky dayNow my dreams will come true.

Pack up all your care and woeHere I go,

Singing low,Bye-Bye Blackbird.

Where somebody waits for me,Sugar's sweet,

So is she,Bye-Bye Blackbird.

No one here can loveAnd understand me,

Oh, what hard-luck storiesThey all hand me.

Make my bedAnd light the light,

I'll arrive late tonight,Black Bird, Bye-Bye.

Goodbye to romanceThat might have been

Bye bye loveBe bye happiness,Hello loneliness

Bye bye love,Bye bye sweet caress,

Hello emptinessI feel like I could die

Bye bye my loveGood bye

By the Rivers of Babylon (G)

By the rivers of BabylonWhere he sat downAnd there he wept

when he remembered Zion.Oh from wicked,

carry us away from captivityRequired from us a song

How can we singing out for songin a strange land.

So let the words of our mouthAnd the meditation of our heart

Be acceptable in thy sightO-verride

By the rivers of BabylonWhere he sat downAnd there he wept

Cool Water

All day I face the barren wasteWithout the taste of water,

Cool waterOld Dan and I

With throats burned dryAnd souls that cry for water,

Cool, clear, water

Keep a-movin' DanDon't ya listen to him Dan

He's a devil of a manAnd he spreads the burning sand

With waterOh Dan can you seeThat big green tree

Where the water's running freeAnd it's waiting there for you and me?

The nights are coolAnd I'm a fool

Each star's a pool of water,Cool water

But with the dawn I'll wake and yawnAnd carry on to water,

Cool, clear, water

Keep a-movin' Dan…

The shadows swayAnd seem to say

Tonight we pray for water,Cool, water

And way up thereHe'll hear our prayer

And show us where there's water,Cool, clear, water

Keep a-movin' Dan…

Dan's feet are soreHe's yearning for

Just one thing more than water,Cool, water

Like me I guessHe'd like to rest

Where there's no quest for water,Cool, clear, water

Could I Have This Dance

I'll always rememberThe song they were playing

The first time we dancedAnd I knew

As we swayed to the musicAnd held to each otherI fell in love with you

Could I have this danceFor the rest of my life

Would you be my partnerThen every night

When we're togetherIt feels so right

Could I have this danceFor the rest of my life

I'll always rememberThat magic moment

When I held youClose to me

Cause we move togetherI know forever

You're allI'll ever need

Could I have this danceFor the rest of my life

Would you be my partnerThen every night

When we're togetherIt feels so right

Crazy, I'm Crazy For Feeling So Lonely

Crazy,I'm crazy for feeling so lonely

I'm crazy,Crazy for feeling so blue

I knewYou'd love me

As long as you wantedAnd then someday

You'd leave meFor somebody new.

Worry,Why do I let myself worry?

Wonderin',What in the world did I do?

Crazy for thinkingThat my love could hold you

I'm crazy for tryingAnd crazy for crying

And I'm crazyFor loving you.

Crazy for thinkingThat my love could hold you

I'm crazy for tryingAnd crazy for crying

Crystal Chandelier (A, E7, D)

All the crystal chandelierslight up the paintings on your wall

The marble statuettesAre standing stately, in the hall,

but will the timely crowd, that has you laughing loud

help you, dry your tearsWhen the new wears off of your crystal chande-liers

I never did, fit in too wellwith folks you knew

And it's plain to see that the likes of me don't fit with youSo you traded me for the gaiety

of the well to doAnd you turned a way from the love

I offered you

I see your picture in the newsmost every day

You're the chosen girlof the social worldSo the stories sayBut a paper smile

only last awileThen it fades away

And the love we knewwill come home to you some day

Oh the crystal chandeliers…

Danny Boy

Oh Danny boy, the pipes,The pipes are calling,

From glen to glenAnd down the mountain side,

The summer's goneAnd all the flowers dying,

'Tis you, 'tis youMust go and I must bide.

But come ye backWhen summer's in the meadow,

Or when the valley'sHushed and white with snow,

'Tis I'll be thereIn sunshine or in shadow,

Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boyI love you so.

But if ye comeWhen all the flowers dying,

And I am dead,As dead I well may be,You'll come and find

The place where I am lying,And kneel and say

An "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear,Tho' soft you tread above me,

And all my dreamsWill warm and sweeter be,

If you'll not failTo tell me that you love me,

I simply sleep in peaceUntil you come to me.

Daddy Don’t you walk so fast

The love between the two of us was dyin'And it got so bad I knew I had to leave

But halfway down that highway, when I turned around I saw

my little daughter running after me, crying

Daddy, don't you walk so fast, daddy don't you walk so fast

Daddy, slow down some,'cause you're making me run

Daddy, don't you walk so fast.

If only for the sake of my sweet daughterI just had to turn back home right there and then

And try to start a new lifeWith the mother of my child

I couldn't bear to hear those words again.

It broke my heart to tell my little daughterThat her daddy had to run to catch a train

She had no way of knowingthat I was leaving home for good

I turned around and there she was again, crying.

Delta Dawn,

What's that flower you have on?Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?

And did I hear you sayHe was meeting you here today,

To take you to his mansion in the sky.

She's forty-oneAnd her daddy still calls her baby,

All the folks around Brownsville say she's crazy,Cause she walks downtownWith a suitcase in her hand,

And looking for a mysterious dark-haired man.

In her younger days they called her Delta Dawn,Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on,

Then a man of low degree stood by her side,And promised her he'd take her for his bride.

Down Mexico Way

South of the borderDown Mexico way

That's where I fell in loveWhen stars aboveCame out to play

And now as I wanderMy thoughts ever stray

South of the borderDown Mexico way

She was a pictureIn old Spanish lace

Just for a tender whileI kissed the smile

Upon her faceFor it was fiesta

And we were so gaySouth of the borderDown Mexico way

Then she sighedAnd she whispered "Mañana"

Never dreamingThat we were parting

And I liedAs I whispered "Mañana"

For our tomorrow never came

South of the borderI rode back one day

There in a veil of whiteBy candlelight

She knelt to prayThe mission bells told me

That I mustn't staySouth of the borderDown Mexico way

Ay! Ay! Ay! Ay!Ay! Ay! Ay! Ay!Ay! Ay! Ay! Ay!Ay! Ay! Ay! Ay!

Ebony Eyes

On a weekend passI wouldn’t have had time

To get home and marry that baby of mineSo I went to the chaplain

and he authorizedMe to send for my ebony eyes

My ebony eyes was coming to meFrom out of the skies on Flight 1203

In an hour or two I would whisper “I do”To my beautiful ebony eyes

SPOKENThe plane was way overdue so I went inside to the airlines desk and I said “Sir, Iwonder why 1203 is so late?” He said “Aww, they probably took off late or theymay have run into some turbulent weather and had to alter their course.” I went

back outside and I waited at the gate and I watched the beacon light from thecontrol tower as it whipped through the dark ebony skies as if it were searching for

(my ebony eyes.) And then came the announcement over the loudspeaker—“Would those having relatives or friends on flight number 1203 please report to the

chapel across the street at once.”

Then I felt a burning break deep insideAnd I knew the heavenly ebony skies

Had taken my life’s most wonderful prizeMy beautiful ebony eyes

If I ever get to heaven I’ll betThe first angel I’ll recognize

She’ll smile at me and I know she will beMy beautiful ebony eyes

Everybody loves somebody sometimeEverybody falls in love somehow

Something in your kiss just told meMy sometime is now

Everybody finds somebody someplaceThere's no telling where love may appear

Something in my heart keeps sayingMy someplace is here

If I had it in my powerI'd arrange for every girl

To have your charmThen every minute, every hour

Every boy would findWhat I've found in your arms

Everybody loves somebody sometimeAnd although my dream was overdueYour love made it well worth waiting

That fought and died forYour wee bit hill and glen

And stood against himProud Edward's army

O'er land that is lost nowWhich those so dearly held

Last saturday night, I got married.Me and my wife settled down.

Now me and my wife are partingGonna take another boat downtown

Goodnight Irene, goodnight.Goodnight Irene, goodnight.

Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene.I'll see you in my dreams.

Sometimes I live in the country,Sometimes I live in town

Sometimes I take a great notion,To jump into the river and drown.

Good night Irene….

I love Irene, God knows I do,I'll love her till the seas run dry

But if Irene should turn me down,I'd take the morphine and die.

Stop rambling, stop your gamblingStop staying out late at night,

Go home to your wife and childrenStay there by your fireside bright.

Good night Irene….

Green, Green Grass Of Home

The old townLooks the sameAs I step downFrom the train

And there to meet meIs my Mama and PapaDown the road I lookAnd there runs Mary

Hair of goldAnd lips like cherries

It's good to touchThe green, green grass of home.

Yes they'll allCome to meet me

Arm reaching,Smiling sweetlyIt's good to touch

The green, green grass of home

The old houseIs still standingTho' the paint

Is cracked and dryAnd there's

That old oak treeThat I usedTo play on.

Down the lane I walkWith my sweet Mary

Hair of goldAnd lips like cherries

Its good to touchThe green, green grass of home.

Then I awakeAnd look around meAt four grey wallsThat surround me

And I realizeThat I was only dreaming

For there's a guardAnd there's a sad old padre

Arm in armWe'll walk at daybreak

Again I'll touchThe green, green grass of home.

A green, green valley or a rocky road,That's where I'm going to lay my head.

Sing it now:

Where the deer and the antelope play,Where seldom is heard,

Ireland Calls

IrelandIreland

Side by sideWe stand like brothers

One for all and all togetherWe will stay united through darker days

And we'll be unbeatable forever

Ireland, IrelandTogether standing tallShoulder to shoulder

We'll answer Ireland's call!

Come the day and come the hourSome will live in song and story

We were born to follow our guiding starAnd to meet our destiny with glory

[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/c/celtic_thunder/irelands_call.html ]Ireland, Ireland

Together standing tallShoulder to shoulder

We'll answer Ireland's call!

Hearts of steel and heads unbowingVowing never to be broken

We will fight, until we can fight no moreTill our final requiem is spoken

Ireland, IrelandTogether standing tallShoulder to shoulder

We'll answer Ireland's call!

Ireland, IrelandTogether standing tallShoulder to shoulder

We'll answer Ireland's call! We'll answer Ireland's call!

Oh Lord it hard to be hum-bleWhen you’re per-fect in ev-er-y way

I can’t wait to look in the mir-ror‘Cause I get better look-in’ each day

To know me is to love meI must be a hell of a man

Oh Lord it’s hard to be hum-bleBut I’m do-in’ the best that I can

I used to have a girl friendBut I guess she just couldn’t com-peteWith all of these loved starved wo-men

Who keep clamouring at my feetWell I prob’ly could find me an-oth-er

But I guess they’re all in awe of meWho cares, I nev-er get lone-some

‘Cause I trea-sure my own com-pan-y

Oh Lord it hard to be hum-ble ….

I guess you could say I’m a lon-erA cow-boy out-law tough and proud

Oh I could have lots of friends if I want aBut then I wouldn’t stand out

from the crowdSome folks say that I’m e-go-tisti-cal

Hell I don’t even know what that meansI guess it has some-thin’

to do with the wayThat I fill out my skin tight blue jeans

Oh Lord it hard to be hum-ble ….

I’ve had Enough

Love it's not IWho didn't tryHard enoughHard enough

And this is whyI'm saying goodbye

I've had enoughI've had enough

Love you don't seeThe pain in me

That's plain enoughPlain enough

You're never hereTo catch the tears

I cried for usI cried for us

I'll take my shareBut I'll be fair

There's not much stuffEasy enough

And if you chooseI'll break the newsThis part is tough

So very tough

I've tried and triedTo put aside

The time to talkBut without luck

So I'll just pin this noteWithin your coat

And leave the garden gate unlocked

And this is whyI'm saying goodbye

I've had enoughI've had enough

Just a Closer Walk with Thee

I am weak, but Thou art strong;Jesus, keep me from all wrong;

I’ll be satisfied as longAs I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

RefrainJust a closer walk with Thee,Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,

Daily walking close to Thee,Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Through this world of toil and snares,If I falter, Lord, who cares?

Who with me my burden shares?None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

When my feeble life is o’er,Time for me will be no more;Guide me gently, safely o’er

To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

Blue ain't just a word it's a feeling a feeling of loneliness that I can feel right nowLove has looked at me but tried to change me

I wished that love would take me just for what I amJust for what I am I want someone to love me

Someone who won't expect me to feel like that old mem'ryJust for what they see just for being me

I want someone to love me just for what I am

Cry ain't just a sound it's a sadnessA sadness that lives with me and follows me around

Leaning on the Lamp

I’m leaning on the lampMaybe you think I look a tramp

Or maybe you think I’m outto steal your car

But no, I’m not a crook, and if you think that’s what I look

I’ll tell you why and what my motives are

I’m leaning on a lamppostat the corner of the street

In case a certain little lady comes byOh me, oh my,

in case a certain little lady comes byShe wonderful she marvelous she’s fabulous she’s beautiful

And anyone can understand whyI’m leaning on the lamppost at the corner of the street in case

A certain little lady comes by

She’s not the kind o girl to be late forBut this girl I’d break any date for

I won’t have to ask what she late forShe’d never leave me flat, she’s not a girl like that

Lemon Tree

When I was just a lad of ten,My father said to me,

"Come here and take a lessonFrom the lovely Lemon Tree."

"Don't put your faith in love, my boy",My father said to me,

"I fear you'll find that love is likeThe lovely Lemon Tree."

Lemon Tree very prettyAnd the lemon flower is sweet

But the fruit of the lemonIs impossible to eat.

Lemon Tree very prettyAnd the lemon flower is sweet

But the fruit of the lemonIs impossible to eat.

One day beneath the Lemon Tree,My love and I did lie

A girl so sweet that when she smiledThe stars rose in the sky.

We passed that summer lost in loveBeneath the lemon tree

The music of her laughterHid my father's words from me:

Lemon Tree very pretty ..

One day she left without a word. She took away the sun.

And in the dark she left behind,I knew what she had done. She'd left me for another,

It's a common tail but true.A sadder man but wiser now

I sing these words to you:

Lemon Tree very pretty ..

Let the sun shine in

Mommy told me somethingA little kid should know

It's all about the devilAnd I've learned to hate him so

She said he causes troubleWhen you let him in the room,He will never ever leave you

If your heart is filled with gloom

So let the sun shine inFace it with a grinSmilers never lose

And frowners never winSo let the sun shine in

Face it with a grinOpen up your heart

and let the sun shine in

When you are unhappyThe devil wears a grin

But oh, he starts to runningWhen the light comes pouring in

I know he'll be unhappy'Cause I'll never wear a frownMaybe if we keep on smiling

He'll get tired of hanging 'round.

If I forget to say my prayersThe devil jumps with glee

But he feels so awful awfulWhen he sees me on my knees

So if you're full of troubleAnd you never seem to win

Just open up your heart and let the sun shine in

Lilli Marlene

Underneath the lanternBy the barrack gate,Darling I remember

The way you used to wait;'Twas there that you whispered

Tenderly,That you lov'd me,You'd always be,

My Lilli of the lamplight,My own Lilli Marlene.

Time would come for roll callTime for us to part

Darling I'd carress youAnd press you to my heart. And there 'neath that far off

Lantern lightI'd hold you tight

We'd kissGoodnight,

Orders came for sailingSomewhere over there,All confined to barracks

Was more than I could bear;I knew you were waiting

In the street,I heard your feet,

But could not meet,

Resting in a billetJust behind the line

Even tho' we're partedYour lips are close to mine,You wait where that lantern

Softly gleamsYour sweet face seemsTo haunt my dreams,

When we are marchingIn the mud and cold,

And when my pack seemsMore than I can hold,

My love for you renews my might,I'm warm again,My pack is light,

It's you Lili Marlene,It's you Lili Marlene.

And by yon bonnie braes,Where the sun shines bright

On Loch Lomond,Where me and my true love

Were ever wont to gae,On the bonnie, bonnie banks

O' Loch Lomond.

O, ye'll tak' the high road,An' I'll tak; the low road,

An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye;But me and my true loveWill never meet again,

On the bonnie, bonnie banksO' Loch Lomond.

'Twas there that we partedIn yon shady glen,

On the steep, steep sideO' Ben Lomon'

Where in purple hueThe Hieland hills we view,

An' the moon comin'Out in the gloaming.

O, ye'll tak' the high road,An' I'll tak; the low road,

An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye;But me and my true loveWill never meet again,

On the bonnie, bonnie banksO' Loch Lomond.

And in sunshineThe waters are sleepin';

But the broken heartIt kens nae second spring,

Tho' the waefu' mayCease frae their greetin'.

Lucille (A, E7, Bm, E7))

In a bar in Toledoacross from the depot on a

bar stool she took off her ringI thought i'd get closerso I walked on over I

sat down and asked her nameWhen the drinks finally hit her

she said I'm noquitter but I finally quit livin on dreams

I'm hungry for laughterand here ever after I'm

after what-ever the other life brings

In the mirror I saw himand I closely watched him I

thought how he looked out of placeHe came to the woman

who sat there be-side mehe had a strange look on his face

The big hands were callousedhe looked like a mountain

for a minute I thought I was deadBut he started shaking

his big heart was breakinghe turned to the woman and said

You picked a fine time to leave me Lucillewith four hungry children

and a crop in the fieldI've had some bad times

lived through some sad timesbut this time your hurting won't heal

you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille.

After he left us I ordered more whiskyI thought how she'd made him look small

From the lights of the bar roomto a rented hotel room

we walked without talking at allShe was a beauty but when she came to me she must have thought I'd lost my mind

I couldn’t hold her‘cos the words that told her

kept coming back time after time

You picked a fine time to leave me Lucillewith four hungry children

and a crop in the fieldI've had some bad times

lived through some sad timesbut this time your hurting won't heal

you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille.

Just growing wildNo mommy's kisses

And no body's smilesNobody wants meI'm nobody's child

Does it worry youTo be alone? How do I feel

On Top Of Spaghetti

On top of spaghetti,All covered with cheese,I lost my poor meatball,

When somebody sneezed.

It rolled off the table,And onto the floor,

And then my poor meatball,Rolled out of the door.

It rolled in the garden,And under a bush,

And then my poor meatball,Was nothing but mush.

The mush was as tastyAs tasty could be,

And early next summer,It grew into a tree.

The tree was all coveredWith beautiful moss,

It grew lovely meatballs,And tomato sauce.

So if you eat spaghetti,All covered with cheese,

Hold on to your meatballs,And don't ever sneeze.

I’m only human, I’m just a personHelp me believe in all that I am

And all that I coiuld beShow me the stairway, I have to climb

Lord for my sake, teach me to takeOne day at a time

One day at a time, sweet JesusThat’s all I ‘m asking of you

Just give me the strength to do every dayWhat I have to do

Yesterday’s gone, sweet JesusAnd tomorrow may never be mine

Lord help me today, show me the wayOne day at a time

Do you rememberwhen you walked among men

well Jesus you knowif you’re looking below,it’s worse now than thenIt’s pushin’ and shovin’It’s crowding my mind

Lord for my sake, teach me to takeOne day at a time

I realize the wayYour eyes deceived me

With tender looksThat I mistook for love

So take away the flowersThat you gave meAnd send the kind

That you remind me of

Paper rosesPaper rosesOh how real

Those roses seem to beBut they're only

ImitationLike your imitation

Love for me

I thought that youWould be a perfect lover

You seemed so fullOf sweetness at the startBut like a big red roseThat's made of paper

There isn't any sweetnessIn your heart

Pearly shells from the oceanShining in the sunCovering the shoreWhen I see them

Please help me I’m fallingIn love with you.

Close the door to temptation,Don’t let me walk through.Turn away from me, darling

I’m begging you to.Please help me I’m falling

In love with you.

I belong to anotherWhose arms have grown cold,

But I promised foreverTo have and to hold.

I can never be free, dear,But when I’m with youI know that I’m losing

The will to be true.

Please help me I’m fallingAnd that would be sin.

Close the door to temptation,Don’t let me walk in.

Please help me I’m fallingIn love with you.

Put your hand in the handOf the man that calms the sea.

Take a look at yourself,And you can look at others differently,

Que Sera, Sera

When I was just a little girl,I asked my mother, "What will I be?

Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?"Here's what she said to me:

Que sera, sera,Whatever will be, will be.

The future's not ours to see,Que sera, sera,

What will be, will be.

When I was just a child in school,I asked my teacher, "What shall I try?

Should I paint pictures?Should I sing songs?"

This was her wise reply:Que sera, sera,…

When I grew up and fell in love,I asked my lover, "What lies ahead?

Will we have rainbows day after day?"Here's what my lover said:

Que sera, sera,…

Now I have children of my own,They ask their mother, "What will I be?

Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?"I tell them tenderly:Que sera, sera,…

Red River Valley

From this valley they say you are goingWe will miss your bright eyes & sweet smile

For they say you are taking the sun shineThat brightens our path way a while

Come and sit by my side if you love meDo not hasten to bid me adieu

But remember the red river valleyAnd the cowboy who loves you so true

OR

From this valley they say you are going,I will miss your sweet face

and sweet smile,Just because you are weary and tired,

You are changing your range for a while.

I've been thinking a long time, my darling,Of the sweet words you never would say,Now alas, must my fond hopes all vanish?

For they say you are going away.

When you think of the valleyyou're leaving

Oh how lonely and drear it it would be,When think of the fond heart

you're breakingAnd the pain you are causing to me.

From this valley they say you are going; When you go, may your darling go too?Would you leave her behind unprotected

When she loves no other but you?

I have promised you darling that never,Shall the words from my lips

cause you pain; And my life is still your's forever,

If you only will love me again.

Must the past with it's joys be blightedBy the future of sorrow and pain,And the vows that were spoken

be slighted?Don't you think, you can love me again?

As you go to your home by the oceanMay you never forget those sweet hoursThat we spent in the Red River Valley

And the love we exchanged 'mid the flowers

There never could be such a longingIn the heart of a poor maiden's breast,

That dwells in the heart you are breakingAs I wait in my home in the West.

And the dark maiden's prayer for her loverTo the Spirit that rules the world:

May his pathway be evr in sunshine,

Red sails in the Sunset (A, D, F#, B)

‘Twas down where the fish-er folk gath-erI wan-der’d far from the throng

I heard a fish-er girl sing-ingAnd this re-frain was her song

Red sails in the sunset, Way out on the seaOh carry my loved one, home safely to me

He sailed at the dawning, all day I’ve been blueRed sails in the sunset, I’m trusting in you

Swift wings you must borrow. Make straight for the shoreWe marry tomorrow. And he goes sailing no more

Red sails in the sunset, Way out on the seaOh carry my loved one, home safely to me.

Red sails, the night breeze is blow-ingAnd clouds are hid-ing the moon

Above no bright stars are glow-ingIt means the storm’s com-ing soon

Red sails in the sunset, I’m trusting in youSwift wings you must borrow. Make straight for the shore

We marry tomorrow. And he goes sailing no moreRed sails in the sunset, Way out on the seaOh carry my loved one, home safely to me.

Rose Garden

I beg your pardon,I never promised you a rose garden,

Along with the sunshine,There´s got to be a little rain sometime.

When you take you got to giveSo love and let live and let go

I beg your pardon,I never promised you a rose garden.

I could promise you thingsLike big diamond rings

But you don't find rose growin'On stalks of clover

Well, you better think it over

Well, if sweet talkin' youCould make it come true

I would hand you the world right nowOn a silver platter

But what would it matter

So smile for a whileAnd let's be jolly

Life shouldn't be so melancholyCome and let's share the good times

While we can

I beg your pardonI never promise you a rose garden

Well, I could sing you a tuneOr promise you the moon

But if that's what it takes to hold youI'd just as soon let you go

But there's one thing I want you to know

You better look before you leapStill waters run deep

There won't always be someone thereTo pull you out

That's just what I'm talkin' aboutI beg your pardon

I never Promised you a rose garden

There's a little rosewood casketResting on a marble stand

With a packet of old love lettersWritten by my true love's hand

Go and bring them to me sisterRead them o'er for me tonight

I have often tried but I could notFor the tears that filled my eyes

When I'm dead and in my casketWhen I gently fall asleep

Fall asleep to wake in heavenDearest sister do not weep

Take his letters and his locketPlace them gently on my heart

But this golden ring that he gave meFrom my finger never part

Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town

You've painted up your lipsAnd rolled and curled your tinted hair,

Ruby are you contemplatingGoing out somewhere?

The shadows on the wall tell meThe sun is going down,

Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town.

It wasn't me that startedThat old crazy Asian war,

But I was proud to goAnd do my patriotic chore,

And yes, it's trueThat I'm not the man I used to be,

Oh Ruby, I still need some company.

It's hard to loveA man whose legs

Are bent and paralyzed,And the wants and needs

Of a woman your ageReally I realize,

But it won't be long,I've heard them say,Until I'm not around,

h Ruby, don't take your love to town.

She's leaving nowcause I just heard

the slamming of the door,The way I knowI heard its slams

one hundred times before,And if I could move

I'd get my gunand put her in the ground,

Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town.

Oh Ruby, for God's sake, turn around

Save The Last Dance For Me

You can danceEv'ry dance with the guyWho gives you the eye,Let him hold you tight

You can smileEv'ry smile for the man

Who held your hand'Neath the pale moonlight

But don't forgetWho's taking you home

And in whose armsYou're gonna be

So darlin',Save the last dance for me.

Oh, I knowThat the music's fineLike sparkling wine

Go and have your funLaugh and sing

But while we're apartDon't give your heart to anyone

But don't forgetWho's taking you home

And in whose armsYou're gonna be

So darlin',Save the last dance for me.

Baby don't you know I love you soCan't you feel it when we touch

I will never never let you goI love you oh so much

You can dance goAnd carry on

Till the night is goneAnd it's time to go

If he asksIf you're all alone

Can he take you homeYou must tell him no

Scarlett ribbons for my hair

All the stores were closed and shutteredAll the streets were dark and bareIn our Town no scarlett ribbons

Song sung blue, weepin' like a willow,Song sung blue, sleepin' on my pillow.

Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice,And before you know it start to feelin' good, You simply got no choice.

Now I wonder how a danceLike the Tennessee Waltz

Could have brokenMy heart so complete

Well I couldn't blame my darlin',And who could help fallin'

In love with my darlin' so sweet

Well it must be the faultOf the Tennessee Waltz

Wish I'd known justHow much it would cost

But I didn't see it commin',It's all over but the cryin'

Blame it all on the Tennessee Waltz

The Great Pretender

Oh yes, I'm the great pretenderPretending that I'm doing well

My need is such,I pretend too much

I'm lonely,But no one can tell

Oh yes, I'm the great pretenderAdrift in a world of my own

I play the game,But to my real shame

You've left meTo dream all alone

Too real is this feelingOf make believe

Too real when I feelWhat my heart can't conceal

Oh yes, I'm the great pretenderJust laughin' and gay like a clownI seem to be what I'm not you see

I'm wearing my heart like a crown:Pretending that you're still around.

The Northern Lights Of Old Aberdeen

The Northern Lights of old Aberdeen,Mean home sweet home to me,

The Northern Lights of Aberdeen,Are what I long to see.

I've been a wanderer all my life,And many a sight I've seen,

God speed the dayWhen I'm on my way

To my home in Aberdeen.

Repeat first verse

The Power Of Love

The whispers in the morningOf lovers sleeping tight

Are rolling like thunder nowAs I look in your eyes

I hold on to your bodyAnd feel each move you makeYour voice is warm and tenderA love that I could not forsake

(first chorus)'Cause I am your ladyAnd you are my man

Whenever you reach for meI'll do all that I can

Lost is how I'm feeling lying in your armsWhen the world outside's too

Much to takeThat all ends when I'm with you

Even though there may be timesIt seems I'm far away

Never wonder where I am'Cause I am always by your side

(repeat first chorus, (second chorus)We're heading for somethingSomewhere I've never beenSometimes I am frightened

But I'm ready to learnOf the power of love

The sound of your heart beatingMade it clear

Suddenly the feeling that I can't go onIs light years away

There Goes My Everything

I hear footsteps slowly walking,As they gently walk

Across a lonely floor,And a voice is softly saying,

Darling, this will beGood-bye for ever more.

There goes my reason for living,There goes the one of my dreams,There goes my only possession,

There goes my everything.

As my memory turns back the pages,I can see the happy

Years we had before,Now the love that keptThis old heart beating,

Has been shatteredBy the closing of the door.

There goes my reason …

Tom Dooley

(Narrative) Throughout history there have been many songs written about the eternal triangle. This next one tells the story of Mister Grayson, a beautiful woman, and a condemned man named Tom Dooley. When the sun rises tomorrow, Tom Dooley must hang

Hang down your head Tom Doo-ley,hang down your head and cry

Hang down your head Tom Doo-ley,poor boy you’re bound to die

I met her on a mountain,There I took her life

Met her on a mountain,Stuck her with my knife

This time tomorrow, reckon where I’ll beHadn’t a been for Grayson,

I’d a been in Tennessee

This time tomorrow, reckon where I’ll beDown in some lonesome valleyHanging from a white oak tree

Unchained Melody

Oh, oh my loveOh my darling

I've hungered for your touchA long and lonely time

And time goes by so slowlyAnd time can do so much

Are you still mine

need your loveI need your loveI need your love

God speed your love to me

Lonely rivers flowTo the sea, to the sea

To the open arms of the sea

Lonely rivers sighWait for me, wait for me

I'll be coming homeWait for me

Oh, oh my loveOh my darling

I've hungered for your touchA long and lonely time

And time goes by so slowlyAnd time can do so much

Are you still mine

I need your loveI need your loveI need your love

God speed your love to me (it to me)God speed your love to me

(I need your love)

Unicorn

A long time ago when the earth was greenThere was more kinds of animals than you'd ever seen

They'd run around freewhile the world was being born

But the loveliest of them allwas the u--ni--corn

There was green alligatorsand long necked geese

Some humpy back camelsand some chimpanzees

Cats and rats and elephantsbut sure as you're born

The loveliest of all was the u--ni--corn

But the Lord seen some sinnin'and it caused him painHe said "Stand back –I'm gonna make it rainSo hey brother Noah,I'll tell you what to do,

Build me a floating zoo."

And you take two alligatorsand a couple of geese

Two hump back camelsand two chimpanzees

Two cats, two rats, two elephantsbut sure as you're born

Noah, don't you forget my u--ni--corn.

Now Noah was thereand he answered the callin'And he finished up the ark

as the rain started fallin'And he marched in the animals two by two

And he sung out as they went through

"Hey Lord, I got you two alligatorsand a couple of geese

Two hump back camelsand two chimpanzees

Two cats, two rats, two elephantsbut sure as you're born

Lord, I just don't see your u--ni--corns."

Well, Noah looked outthrough the driving rain,

But the unicorns were hiding –playing silly games,

They were kickin' and a-spashin'while the rain was pourin'Oh them foolish unicorns.

[Repeat second chorus]

And then the ark started movingand it drifted with the tide,And the unicorns looked up

from the rock and cried,And the water came up

and sort of floated them away,That's why you've never seen

a unicorn to this day.

"You'll see a lot of alligatorsand a whole mess of geese

You'll see hump back camelsand chimpanzees

You'll see cats and rats and elephantsbut sure as you're born

You're never gonna see no u--ni--corns."

How Great thou Art - Whakaria Mai

Whakaria maiTou ripeka ki ahau

Tiaho maira roto i te po

Hei konei auTitiro atu ai

Ora mateHei ahau koe

noho ai

Oh lord my God,when I in awesome wonder

Consider all,the works thy hands have made

I see the stars,I hear the rolling thunderThy power throughoutthe Universe displayed

Then sings my soul,My saviour God, to thee

How great thou art, how great thou art

When though the woodsand forest glades I wander

And hear the birds singsweetly in the treesWhen I look down

from lofty mountain grandeurAnd hear the brook

and feel the gentle breeze

When Christ shall comewith shouts of acclamation

And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart

Then I shall bow in humble adorationAnd there proclaim,

my God how great thou art.

When Irish Eyes are Smiling

There's a tear in your eyeAnd I'm wondering why

For it never should be there at allWith such power in your smile

Sure a stone you'd bequileSo there's never a teardrop should fall

When your sweet lilting laughter's like some fairy songAnd your eyes twinkle bright as can be

You should laugh all the while and all other times smileAnd now smile a smile for me

When Irish eyes are smilingSure'n it's like a morn in spring

In the lilt of Irish laughterYou can hear the angels singWhen Irish hearts are happy

All the world is bright and gayAnd when Irish eyes are smilingSure they steal your heart away

You’ll come a waltz-ing Ma-til-da with meAnd he sang as he shoved

that jum-buck in his tucker bagYou’ll come a waltz-ing Ma-til-da with me

Up rode the squattermounted on his thorough bred

Down came the troopers one two threeWhose that jolly jum-buck

Up jumped the swagman, sprang into the bil-la-bong

“You’ll never catch me alive said he.And his ghost may be heard,

as you pass by the bil-la-bongYou’ll come a waltz-ing Ma-til-da with meWaltz-ing Ma-til-da, Waltz-ing Ma-til-da

Why Does The Sun Go On Shining

Why does the sun go on shiningWhy does the sea rush to shore

Don't they know it's the end of the worldCause you don't love me anymore

Why do the birds go on singingWhy do the starts glow above

Don't they know it's the end of the worldIt ended when I lost your love

I wake up in the morning and I wonderWhy everything is the same as it was

I can't understand, no, I can't understandHow life goes on the way it does

Why does my heart go on beatingWhy do these eye of mine crying

Don't they know it's the end of the worldIt ended when you said goodbye

Don't they know It's the end of the worldIt endend when you said goodbye

You are my sunshine

You Are My SunshineMy only sunshine.

You make me happyWhen skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away

The other nite, dear,As I lay sleeping

I dreamed I held you in my arms. When I awoke, dear,

I was mistakenAnd I hung my head and cried.

You are my sunshine,My only sunshine.

You make me happyWhen skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

I'll always love youAnd make you happy

If you will only say the sameBut if you leave me

To love anotherYou'll regret it all some day;

You are my sunshine,My only sunshine.

You make me happyWhen skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

You told me once, dearYou really loved me

And no one else could come betweenBut now you've left me

And love anotherYou have shattered all my dreams;
