PBI Students,

The University of Texas at Dallas Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has been asked to participate in the Plano Balloon Festival on Sept 22-24, 2017. Each year, UT Dallas has a booth that brings STEM education topics to the pre-teens and teens that will attend the festival. Activities and crafts are also included that go along with the topic. We need your help!

How can you design booth activities that will teach the science principles of the gas laws that cause balloons to rise to educate, engage, and recruit students visiting the Plano Balloon Fair?

There is an incredible amount of science in hot air ballooning. For this three day project, you must:

Plan a craft/activity that shows Charles law in action that is suitable for a 6-12 audience

Develop a pamphlet for distribution that contains the following Professional graphic design standards The science information that explains how hot air balloons operate The equation for Charles Law Several practice problems with a key A graph that shows the relationship between temperature and volume for

a real world situation A promotion for the UTeach Dallas program at UTD

You will also give a 3 minute presentation that describes the science in your pamphlet, describes your craft and how it fits the law, and tells how you will promote the program.

We look forward to your submissions and will choose the best idea to be used at the UTD booth in a few weeks. Thanks for helping promote science/mathematics education as well as your university!
