Application Process APPLICATION SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS Students must submit the following three items to apply.

QUESTIONNAIRE INSTRUCTIONS The questionnaire below will challenge applicants to display an understanding of Utah's energy mix and careers supporting the energy, mineral, and fuels industries.

Answers to the questions will be scored based on 2019 energy, mineral, and fuel industry data. Applicants must complete each question of the questionnaire in order to be eligible for the scholarship program.

COVER LETTER INSTRUCTIONS Applicants will submit a one-page “practice” cover letter applying for their ideal energy and minerals career. The cover letter will be evaluated based on the applicant’s ability to demonstrate the following;

1. Ability to clearly state their ideal energy orminerals career.

2. Ability to clearly state the skills and educationrequired to be successful in their career.

3. Explanation of how they will obtain theneeded skills and education to be successful intheir career.

4. Demonstration of the value a career in theenergy and minerals industry can provide insupporting a strong community and thrivingeconomy.

ELIGIBILITY Eligible applicants must currently be a 12th-grade student enrolled at any public or private high school in Utah, or a first-year student pursuing a STEM undergraduate degree or energy-related technical certification at a Utah institute of higher learning. Students must certify their intent to pursue a STEM course of study at a public or private Utah institution of higher learning or a license, certificate, or skill training that supports the energy industry at a school that is part of the Utah System of Technical Colleges. Previous winners of the scholarship are NOT eligible to apply.

NOTIFICATION Students will be notified within 30 days of the application deadline if they were selected to receive a scholarship. Scholarship recipients must agree to the requirements and conditions of the scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP DISBURSEMENT AND REPORTING Scholarship recipients will be formally announced at an official award ceremony during the summer/fall of 2020. Attendance is mandatory for scholarship recipients. To obtain the scholarship, recipients must provide OED with proof of enrollment from their selected university or technical college and OED will transfer the funds through the recipient sub- account to the selected institution. • University scholarships will be provided in two

disbursements of funds.• Technical college scholarships will be provided as

a one-time disbursement.

Scholarships will be deposited in the Utah Educational Savings Plan program, also known as a 529 plan, in an OED master account. Within the first 60 days of the scholarship offer, recipients must: • Indicate which Utah university or technical college

they plan to attend and what subject they plan tostudy

• Complete the required Form 106 ScholarshipAccount Agreement (provided by OED) toestablish a sub-account

Scholarship recipients may defer spending of their scholarship for up to 2.5 years or 30 months. Failure to use scholarships within 2.5 years or 30 months will result in a cancellation of the scholarship and refund to OED.

Applications will be scored against the following evaluation criteria:

Question 1: The applicant demonstrates a clear understanding of Utah's all-of-the-above approach to energy and minerals development and its connection to a thriving economy. 25

Question 2: The applicant identifies Utah's mix of energy resources and percentages used in generating electricity in 2019, and how it has changed over the past 5 years. 10

Question 3: The applicant identifies the top-five major energy technology applications supporting energy and minerals careers in Utah in 2018. This includes the total number of jobs, growth from the past year, and projected growth for each application.

Question 4: The applicant selects and researches one STEM-energy and minerals career related to one of the top-five major technology applications provided in Question 3, and cites their sources. They identify the top-three skills needed for the career, average salary, education required, and the value the career provides to the industry, economy, and community.

Question 5: The applicant clearly states how their current or future studies support the development and proficiency in mastering the skills required to be successful in the career selected in Question 4. This includes providing specific university programs, degrees, and majors with a connection to their energy and minerals career.

Cover Letter: The applicant submits a one-page “practice” cover letter applying for their ideal energy and minerals career. The cover letter will be evaluated based on the applicant’s ability to demonstrate the following;

1. Ability to clearly state their ideal energy or minerals career.2. Ability to clearly state the skills and education required to be successful in their career.3. Explanation of how they will obtain the needed skills and education to be successful in

their career.4. Demonstration of the value a career in the energy and minerals industry can provide in

supporting a strong community and thriving economy.
