NORTHWEST CENTER FOR NURSE RENEWAL

CUSTOMIZED NURSE RENEWAL PROGRAMS WITH HARMONY HILL’S NORTHWEST CENTER FOR NURSE RENEWAL

Nurses share such demanding roles and we are expected to sustain patience and kindness often with little support. It is hard to develop the skills needed in the midst of care giving and crisis. To face great Harmony Hill's stellar nurse leaders/faculty can create a workshop or series of workshops customized for your organizations specific needs and goals. Workshops can be offered at Harmony

Hill's unique natural retreat center or can be offered off-site at a hospital, medical facility or at a location closer to where the nurses are located for a particular medical organization. Designed to help nurses reconnect with their work and alleviate the isolation that can occur in this often high stress job, participants are provided with an introduction to self-care tools and information on how to continue this self-reflective work on their own after the workshop. You can schedule an existing program, such as the

Embracing the Wisdom of Nursing featured below, or we can co-create something that is customized specifically for your organization’s unique needs and goals, from a 2 hour workshop up to a 3 day retreat. Contact us at [email protected] or 360.898.2363 for more information or pricing information . EMBRACING THE WISDOM OF NURSING Program schedule: 4:00 pm Day 1 through 2:00 pm Day 3 With the increasing demands of an ever more complex health system, it can be easy to forget why we became nurses. It is no wonder that nurse retention is a chief concern for almost every medical facility. The demand for skilled nurses is high and will only continue to rise with our aging population. Yet the appreciation and honoring of our sacred art is so far removed from a nurse’s daily work experience. This is why many of us no longer remember why we chose to become nurses to begin with. Through the power of story and sharing, remembering again the purpose that set us on this path, we will explore the “Wisdom of Nursing” concepts of loving kindness, grace, compassion, quiet dignity and generosity of spirit. Embracing wisdom within a holistic framework is a path to healing our profession and ourselves. You are invited to join a supportive circle of nurses in the deeply nurturing environment of Harmony Hill. It’s time to remember… and embrace the wisdom of nursing. Program Tuition: $395 per person, includes meals, lodging, and 7.3 CNE credits* * This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the American Holistic Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's COA. Approved through March 18, 2013

CUSTOMIZED CANCER WORKSHOPS

CUSTOMIZED offsite RETREATS FOR CANCER RELATED GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS

The heart of our mission at Harmony Hill is our Cancer Program. The Cancer Program consists of one-day workshops and three-day extended retreats. Our Cancer Program components serve as supportive adjuncts to medical treatment meant to enhance and support, not replace, conventional medicine. We believe that those living with a diagnosis, both during and past treatment, should have access to many tools on their journeys through cancer.

Our program components address the psychological, physical, and spiritual needs of cancer patients. Harmony Hill has been offering cancer programs and retreats since 1994, and since 2004 we have been offering them free to our participants. We are now expanding out into the community to bring these programs offsite to hospitals, clinics and various community organizations and groups interested in creating renewal opportunities for their members or patients. We have presented these workshops at various organizations, including St. Anthony’s Hospital, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Tacoma General Hospital/MultiCare, The Palisades and Olympic Cancer Center in Sequim. We also offer sponsorship opportunities for our onsite retreats — your organization can sponsor one of our offsite programs, or sponsor a small group of patients that attend a specific support group within the framework of the extended retreat. This format creates an increased opportunity for your patients to create community and also demonstrates excellent patient care. If your organization is interested in exploring the possibility of scheduling a speaker or workshop, or sponsoring a program or workshop, please contact [email protected] or call our Program Manager, Cindy Shank, at 360-898-2363.

IN DEPTH SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS SESSIONS — CONTINUED

Igniting Inspiration and Innovation through your Organization — Harnessing new Opportunities Embracing Einstein’s thinking that, “"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" allows us to move from habitual ways of operating into new territory of innovation, creativity and exploration. Using successful models for identifying core gaps and generating new ways of thinking, this workshop creates an environment that not only stimulates new thinking, but also harnesses the energy of critical thinking to move towards accountable actions and direction. By working with a group’s real-time issues, we collectively generate and refine new directions that enhance, strengthen and bring new value to your business. Key components are the willingness to be curious and playful as we look to using our whole brain in solving issues.

Productive Dialogues — Conversations that Build Relationships and Lead to Results Communication is foundational to success. This workshop will develop leadership qualities that impact conversational ability to effectively produce solutions, overcome interpersonal barriers and enhance relationships. It will build your capacity to find alignment, have prioritization conversations, and identify real issues. Organizations can hire people with the best strategic and tactical thinking skills, but the skills to build relationships and have conversations that get results effectively requires personal ongoing investment. Participants’ self-generated accountability and recognition of their choice in each moment increases more effective action.

Team Development through Experiential Initiatives Move away from discussing concepts and strategies for enhancing your team’s performance to experiencing core elements required to build a team and their contributing results. These experiential learning activities are designed to challenge individual and team responses to specifically meet an organization’s development goals. The action is engaging and stimulating, followed by facilitated discussions that transfer learning back to the work team environment.

Understanding Motivation Engaging people in change and innovation is a challenge for everyone in management today. Change is essential. but how do you get people on board? This workshop covers the three essential elements of motivation and how to apply them to your change projects. It is based on the very well researched and validated Self-Determination Theory out of the University of Rochester in New York. When you understand these concepts, you will know just what to do to support people to pick up the ball and run with it.
