“Using the Computer Desktop”
• The desktop is what you see on the screen once you log in.
• When you see the desktop , your computer is ready to use.
Do you see a “desktop” on
this computer?
Is it ready to use?

• The desktop has four main parts:– Icons–Start Button–Taskbar–System Tray
“Using the Computer Desktop”
• The pictures on the desktop are called icons.
“Using the Computer Desktop”
• Icons are how you run programs on your computer.
These are
Icons
Double-clicking the icon runs the program.
Click the picture,
not the words.
“Using the Computer Desktop”
• The Start Button is • another way to run
programs.• When you click it, you see a
menu. Menus give choices.• Only click the Start Button
once.
This is the
“Start” button.
“Using the Computer Desktop”
• The Taskbar is a place where programs “go” when they are running.
This is the Taskbar.
It is empty because
no programs
are running.

• The System Tray is a special area where we see:– The clock– Other icons for programs
running in the “background”
This is the System Tray.
