The InternetThis was the main tool I used in my research, as there are thousands of music videos available. Mainly I used www.metalvideo.com . This was more beneficial to me than any other video websites such as YouTube because it is dedicated specifically to my chosen genre. Also, I was able to research music video directors and typical conventions of metal videos. I also researched font ideas online, using www.dafont.com .

My blog I used my online blog to organise my planning. I was also able to present the PowerPoint planning presentations that I initially created in the blog. I continually updated my blog entries throughout the planning and production stages of my project so that I could easily make changes and evaluations if need be.

PhotoshopI used Photoshop to create my digipak cover and magazine advertisement. As I was already familiar with many of its features from my AS coursework, this made it much easier to complete this project. The main features I used were:

Filming equipment I used the tripod to film a lot of my shots to make them look smooth and professional, especially when using techniques such as panning. I also used it on closeups, because it was important there was no movement in the camera. However, for some parts I wanted to create the feeling of rough and jagged movements so I held the camera myself.

Focus groupsI held a focus group viewing of my video in order to gain feedback from my target audience. I also distributed questionnaires for them to fill out as they were watching. Spoken feedback is a lot more useful to me, as I can ask my focus group to elaborate on certain points I find of interest, which cannot really be done with short written comments online. Also, they may be more willing to give criticism in a group than they would in an individual conversation.

YouTube and the band websiteI uploaded my video to YouTube in order to gain feedback from people who might not necessarily be part of my target audience, and therefore an unbiased opinion. I also posted a link to my video on Arch Enemy’s website. This is probably the most valuable feedback to me, because fans of the band will obviously be familiar with the band’s previous videos and can tell me whether my project is fitting to the band and genre.

iMovieI used the Apple Mac to edit my music video. I utilised several of the video effects to add some variety to the project.

Wash in/outI used these effects at the beginning and end of the video to make it look more interesting. When the last chord of the song rings out, I made the last shot fade accordingly.

Black and whiteI put all the vocalist shots in black and white to enable the viewer to differentiate between the guitarist and the vocalist.

FlashI added a flash effect to all of the vocalist shots, again to separate them from the shots of the guitarist. It also adds a disorientating feel for the viewer which worked with my chosen genre.
