to Process Gypsum

Using A

Gypsum is frequently pelletized to

improve handling and product

characteristics, particularly for use as a

soil amendment.

Gypsum is frequently pelletized to

improve handling and product

characteristics, particularly for use as a

soil amendment.

Pin mixers are used in the pelletizing

process as a precursor to the disc

pelletizer.

This provides a conditioning stage that sets a

precedent for the rest of the process, and

the end product quality.

This provides a conditioning stage that sets a

precedent for the rest of the process, and

the end product quality.

In addition to improving end product

quality, the use of a pin mixer also improves

subsequent processing steps.

How APin Mixer Works

Pin mixers use high-speed centrifugal

force to densify material and create

“micro-pellets.”

A pin mixer consists of a central rotor shaft,

housed in a stationary casing. The shaft is

fitted with several rods, or “pins.”

A pin mixer consists of a central rotor shaft,

housed in a stationary casing. The shaft is

fitted with several rods, or “pins.”

The rotational movement of the shaft and

pins at a constant speed of several

hundred rpms creates a high-velocity

spinning action.

This spinning action reduces water volume

between particles and results in material

densification much greater than what can

be achieved with other agglomeration

equipment.

Benefits of

A Pin Mixer

Increased ProductionDensification is carried out in the pin

mixer instead of on the pelletizer, which

would otherwise be a lengthy process.

Reduced Binder CostsBecause material is densified through

motion and not through the use of

additional binder, less binder is required.

De-DustingRaw powdered gypsum is very dusty.

Conditioning it in a pin mixer with a

binder creates a mixture that is nearly

dust-free, and much easier to handle.

Pre-ConditioningConditioning gypsum in a pin mixer

prepares it for optimal agglomeration

on the disc pelletizer, improving

processing, and helping to create a

premium end product.

ConclusionPin mixers are a valuable part of the

gypsum pelletizing process, helping to

create the best end product possible,

streamlining production, and de-dusting

gypsum so it is easier to work with.

has been working with gypsum for over 60

years, providing testing, process design and

development, and manufacturing of gypsum

processing equipment, including custom,

high-quality pin mixers.
