Using 123Design

There are lots of skills that even we haven’t learnt how to do yet! However we are going teach you a few key skills that will help you with your project.

Navigating around the screen

• When you are designing your shape you will need to look at the design from different views

• This cube gives you a variety of different viewpoints.• You can also use the ‘pan’tool to drag the mouse around the screen to change view.

Starting to draw on 123D

• The two most simple ways of drawing a shape is using the primitives (basic 3D shapes) or the 2D shapes.

Overlapping

• If you draw more than one 2D shape make sure that they overlap so that the computer knows you want them to be attached.

• If you want to change the size of your object you can click and drag the edges. (Don’t forget to change the view if you need to!)

Making a 2D shape 3D!• Once you are happy with your outline you can

‘extrude’ it to pull up the edges at make it 3D. • You will need to select all of the shapes to

combine and pull them up.

Don’t forget to think about how deep you want your cookie cutter to be!

Page 7: Using 123Design There are lots of skills that even we havent learnt how to do yet! However we are going teach you a few key skills that will help you

Is a cookie cutter a solid object?• The shape we have created would

have a top and a bottom – do we need our cookie cutters to have that?

• Why/Why not?

Removing faces to create a shell

• In order to create the cookie cutter we need to remove the top and the bottom

• Select the shell option and then choose the faces that you want to remove

Exporting our designs to the printer

• The printer uses something called an STL file so we need to change our 123dx files to an STL
