SYSTEM OVERVIEW

USG PARALINE® BAFFLES CEILING

SYSTEM

USG Paraline® Baffles is a ceiling system consisting of 24" to 144" long aluminum linear beams attached to USG Donn® Brand DX®, USG Gridware™ or USG Curvatura™ suspension systems. The reveal between the beams is entirely in the designer’s hands as the clip attached beams can be positioned as needed and clipped to both main tees and cross tees in the suspension system. Lighting and air distribution components easily integrate into the layout of the system, using the various available sizes and spacing to meet design requirements.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

• Aluminum baffles are durable and easy to maintain• Feature a robust, positive connection, allowing installation in a variety of situations• Specially engineered hardware allows for simple installation• Direct to deck installation option allows freedom of assembly and alignment• Perforated baffles provide excellent acoustical control in a linear visual• Exceptional noise reduction with absorption from both sides of the baffle

SIZES Baffles are available in the following configurations: • 1.5 in. wide and 4 in. tall. in standard lengths of 24 in., 48 in., 72 in., 96 in., 120 in. and 144 in.• 1.5 in. wide and 6 in. tall. in standard lengths of 24 in., 48 in., 72 in., 96 in., 120 in. and 144 in.

Custom length baffles are available by request with a maximum length of 144 in.

MATERIALS Aluminum baffles: painted or anodized

SUSPENSION SYSTEM

USG Paraline Baffle ceilings are suspended from structural elements using Standard USG Donn Brand DX main tees and cross tees, USG Gridware or USG Curvatura suspension systems. The available system hardware accommodates special applications such as attaching beams to existing grid, flat ceilings or customized layout designs.

PERIMETER DETAILS Typical installations are in cloud or island applications where the baffles float freely and are finished by USG Paraline Baffle end plugs at the perimeter.

USG Compässo™ Standard trim may be used with the USG Paraline Baffle ceilings system for a finished appearance at exposed edges. Please refer to USG Compässo™ Standard/Elite (IC309) datasheet for additional information.

Alternatively, the system may be installed in a wall-to-wall, semi-floating applications using standard M7 wall angle and USG Paraline Baffle end plugs.

LIGHTING & AIR DISTRIBUTION

USG Paraline Baffle ceilings integrate simply and easily with industry standard lighting fixtures and air distribution components, manufactured by others.

ACOUSTICAL PERFORMANCE

Perforated USG Paraline Baffle installations with Acoustibond™ backer yield acoustical performance that varies with the options installed. Review the Acoustical Performance Data section for more information.

Notes: 1. Installation of baffles requires the use of a mechanical fastener to attach the Curvatura Attachment Clip to the

Curvatura suspension system in all curved installations.2. USG recommends the use of a 7/16" self tapping pan head screw for attachment of the various clips to the baffle

and to the grid system, as needed.

ACOUSTICAL PERFORMANCE DATA

STANDARD PERFORATIONS4

The Sabin is a unit of sound absorption. Sabins, calculated in either imperial or metric units, is the preferred metric to measure sound absorptive materials. Many surface textures in a space offer some ability to absorb sound. However, Paraline Baffles deliver high quality sound absorption because the sound is absorbed from both sides of the baffle. Depending on system configuration, that surface area may exceed the overall square footage of the affected space. The installation of baffles in a space with large sound reflections can significantly reduce background noise and deliver favorable reverberation time, enhancing speech intelligibility.

Acoustical performance of the Paraline Baffle ceiling system will vary depending on the system options, including perforations and the type and amount of acoustical material that is used.

Use the following test data to select the Paraline Baffles ceiling components and acoustical materials needed to deliver acoustical performance.

1 imperial Sabin = 1 sq. ft. of 100% absorbing material. 1 metric Sabin = 1 sq. m. of 100% absorbing material.
