University of Southern CaliforniaAdministrative Report
The USC Undergraduate Student Government is the official governing body of the 17, 800 undergrad-uates at USC. It exists to represent the interests of the students to the administration on campus issues through an extensive programming, committee, and advocacy structure.
The Student Government is made up of four branches: Legislative, Executive, Programming, and Judicial. The President, the Vice President, and the Senators are popularly elected by the student body in an annual election held in mid-February. A selection committee appoints the Executive Cabinet, Programming Branch, and the Judicial Branch members.
According to the Constitution, “all registered undergraduate students at USC shall be members of the Undergraduate Student Government and shall be subject to this Constitution, Bylaws, and Code of Ethics.”

To the Trojan Family, It is with great excitement and pride that I present the Undergraduate Student Government’s Administrative Report. Since taking office, myself, Vice President Ryan Park, and over 100 members of USG have worked passionately and diligently to represent student interests, program events, and advocate for changes that enhance the student experience on the USC campus. This report is intended to update our stakeholders on projects we have completed, and those that we will continue to pursue throughout the rest of the academic year. The main role of the Undergraduate Student Government is to serve as a representative body for all USC undergraduates, and to foster a culture of involvement and engagement through programming, advocacy, legisla-tion, and funding. In addition to continuing this long-standing mission, our administration found it necessary to revamp our bylaws and organizational structure to improve our brand and culture, cut unnecessary costs, and streamline many of the internal processes of USG. It is Ryan’s and my intention to foster an environment within the Undergraduate Student Government where our student leaders can achieve all of their goals, and we saw the aforementioned changes necessary in achieving that. This report will go into detail about the multitude of projects we have completed throughout the year, however I want to open by providing some highlights from some of larger accomplishments. We are most proud of our organization’s ability to collaborate and partner with other departments around campus, while maintaining the students of USC as our highest priority. In collaboration with Vice Provost Ainsley Carry, USC Student Affairs, and various other student leaders, USG was able to rewrite and implement a new social events policy. These are the first changes to the social events policy since 1992, and we are pleased to announce that the new social events policy will allow for much greater transparency between students and university administration, while providing a fair and modern set of regulations for socializing at USC. Another project we are particularly proud of is the creation of the on-campus Farmers Market in conjunction with USC Hospitality. For years, students have asked for an easily accessible outlet to shop and eat on campus, and we are excited to finally provide one. Foot traffic at the Farmers Market has grown to very exciting levels throughout the year, and we hope that it will go on to be a staple and tradition at USC. USG has also initiated a health and wellness campaign called Take 5, which encourages students to live healthily and to take time out of their schedules to relax and recharge. Through the Take 5 campaign, USG will provide students various events and resources to maximize their happiness and potential inside and outside of the classroom. USG’s internal branches continue to provide support for the student body. The USG funding boards have financed 167 organizations, 21 student research projects, and 185 events, for a grand total of $339,221. Our programming branch continues to use their creativity and expertise to plan the most exciting and diverse events for our students. Indeed, USG has had a successful year in collaborating to achieve its goals and building relationships with students, faculty, alumni, administrators, and trustees. As a new administration takes over, I assure you that USG will continue our mission to create the greatest undergraduate experience in the world. Thank you all for your continual interest and support, and as always, Fight On! Sincerely,
Christian KurthStudent Body PresidentUndergraduate Student Government

2013-2014 FISCAL YEAR BUDGETUniversity of Southern California Undergraduate Student Government Administrative Report

This branch is charged with staying in close contact with key administrators, student organizations, and students about issues affecting students that lie in their area of focus. These concerns may come from the data collected by senators, administrators, individual students or student organizations. The members of this branch create solutions to problems that represent a middle ground between students, staff, faculty, and the community. They serve as the liaison between key administration and students, making sure students are aware of important changes that are taking place while creating awareness of available resources for students. They lead university-wide committees, pursue advocacy projects, assist other USG members and the President/Vice President with projects, and communicate with individual students regarding their concerns.
The Executive Branch meets on Tuesdays at 6pm to discuss issues and projects brought to USG and to report on their progress. The Executive Branch is led by three Executive Officers; Chief of Staff (oversees the Advocacy Committees), Senior Director of Communications (oversees the Communication Branch), and Treasurer (oversees all Funding Boards), as well as a USG Graduate Advisor to assist the executive cabinet. Each of these branches have Directors, Assistant Directors, and Committees that organize various student programs and events, and lobby to the administration on important student issues.
EXECUTIVE CABINET BRANCHECABUniversity of Southern California Undergraduate Student Government ECAB

The Executive Cabinet has always existed within USG; however, it never had a logo or identity. In the past, while recruiting members to the Executive Cabinet, which consists of Advocacy,
Communications and Funding, we used the broader label of “USG”. However, joining the Executive Cabinet differs from the Programming Branch, and focuses only on the specific advocacy committees,
communications teams and funding boards.
We hope that this new logo will help clarify confusion amongst students who are interested in joining USG, as well as help student and faculty understand the different entities that make up the
greater Undergraduate Student Government. This new logo can help unite the Executive Cabinet and give it a more definite brand within the greater organization of USG.

COMMUNICATION BRANCHECABUniversity of Southern California Undergraduate Student Government ECAB
This year we have reorganized the communications branch in order to better suit the increased needs of digital and social media. By doing so, we have doubled the amount of social media assistant directors, expanded the role of the graphic designers, and changed the responsibilities of the technology director. The goal is to now have a larger functioning public relations and marketing team that can handle more than just the publicity requests, newsletters, promotional events and basic publicity; now, the communications team is equipped to start new campaigns for Advocacy and Funding, as well as for USG as a whole. The expansion of the communications branch was a long overdue change that will help the transparency and publicity of the entire organization.

TREASURY BRANCHECABUniversity of Southern California Undergraduate Student Government ECAB
The USG Funding Program allocates around $320,000 in student programming fees for a direct return to the students. This year, USG Funding is pleased to offer more funds than ever before to student organizations and individuals conducting academic research. Six different funds are run by a team of four Director and Assistant Director pairings.
Appointed committees of twelve members each vote on the applications which are all monitored by an independent staff advisor, leaving funding decisions in the responsible hands of the students. This year, we have streamlined our online applications and guidelines, making it easier than ever before for stu-dents to qualify for funding. USG Funding is overseen by the USG Treasurer, Kameron VanWoerkom.

This branch (also known as “USG Program Board”) is charged with programming events for the entire undergraduate student body. All Program Board events are funded by the student programming fee and are free to students throughout the year. There are three Graduate Advisors who provide guidance to all committees and assemblies, as well as a Program Manager that helps facilitate the working relationship between Program Board and various USC departments.
The Executive Director of USC Program Board is the student who chairs this branch and, along with the Finance Director, assures that quality and fiscally-responsible events are produced for the student body.

The Trojan family, like most other families, has some members who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, and many others who count themselves as allies.
Each one of us who has signed celebrates National Coming Out Day, and we are proud to advocate a safe and respectful environment for every member of the USC community. By adding our names to this list, we are saying this day matters to us. We’re saying we want USC to be a place where all belong, where all feel welcome.
Today, some of us are proud to come out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. Others of us are proud to count ourselves as allies and continue to support those who come out. Together, we are your fellow students, professors, alumni, co-workers, roommates, and friends in the Trojan Family!

USC Program Board's Speakers Committee is proud to welcome USC alum Jason Russell to discuss the
use of social media to promote social change.
Jason Russell is the co-founder of Invisible Children and
director of the viral documentary, "Kony 2012." His "Stop Kony"
campaign garnered tremendous support from the online commu-
nity and helped spark awareness nationwide. Russell is currently
launching ZeroLRA, a campaign that urges people to reach out to
government officials to eliminate the Lord's Resistance Army and
prevent child abductions in central Africa. Moderated by Adam
Amel Rogers, a Project Specialist at the USC Annenberg Norman
Lear Center, this conversation will allow you to see through the
eyes of one of today's most prominent social activists.
